Chapter 24 – Summoners Guild
Lin Ling has accumulated one tenth of the necessary experience to become an Intermediate Summoner in just a month, which means that if he were to maintain this speed, he’ll become an Intermediate Summoner in just 9 months. To the people of Runeterra, this cultivation speed is just terrifying, but Lin Ling is still not satisfied enough!
“Are you done?”
“Done!”
“Are you done for real?”
“Yes!” Lin Ling kept nodding to Vi as he talked.
She nodded her head satisfactorily: “Well kid, this old lady is in a good mood today, so I’ll take you to the Summoners Guild to practice summoning me. Remember that you’ll have control of this old lady, so if you lose, I won’t hold back smacking your head, got it?”
“That would kill me!” Lin Ling eyes lit up and quickly queried: “But big sister, I’m just an unofficial summoner. I don’t even have a summoner badge, how can I use the the facilities of the summoners guild?” Lin Ling expressed his worries to Vi.
There will be almost always a Summoners Guild branch in every big city, in which summoners can practice using the Virtual Battelfield. A special venue with a virtual environment that allows summoners to summon models of different champions with no consciousness to fight each other (TLN: A virtual clone or something). Very few summoners can invite a real champion to help them during a virtual battle.
If you still can’t understand what does this means, imagine you are the one manipulating the virtual clone of a champion. If someone were to attack you, your reaction speed and awareness wouldn’t be the same as the original, so even if you have the same skills of the champion you summoned in the virtual battlefield, you may not be able to dodge an attack they could have easily dodged in real life. But if you were to invite a champion to help you control the virtual clone, even if is not the same as in real life, then that’s two people cooperating to fight! When two people help each other to control the virtual clone, the result is not as simple as 1 +1.
This Lin Ling doesn’t know how lucky he is! He has come across three champions in such a short amount of time, and his relationship with them is pretty good!
“This old lady is a champion of the League of Legends! Who dares to block me?! Not to mention a trifling Piltover’s Summoners Guild, even if the Institute of War were to bring people here, I want to see who dares to stop me!” A big hand picked up Lin Ling and led him towards the Summoners Guild regardless of his actual opinion.

“Big sister…could you put me down please? This is really embarrassing…” Lin Ling said numbly to Vi with a sullen expression. “I’m a prideful police officer of Piltover! I want human rights…Hey!”
Lin Ling complained to Vi along the way and as she already became accustomed to it, she completely ignored him. Like this, Lin Ling was brought awkwardly to the front door of the Summoners Guild.
“We arrived.” Vi dropped Lin Ling to the ground like a bag of potatoes.
“Originally is Champion Vi! Welcome! Welcome!”
Before the two of them could say something, from inside of the building came a man dressed in a blue magician robe, and from the badge on his chest Lin Ling could tell he was and Advanced Summoner at a glance.
The Elementary Summoner’s badge is engraved with the image of a book with a single star. Intermediate Summoners have two stars, and Advanced Summoners have three stars. After that is Master Level Summoner. Whoever reaches this level can be regarded as a top summoner in the entire continent. Instead of stars, a Master Summoner has a crescent moon on his badge. As for the badges of the other summoner ranks, Lin Ling doesn’t know. He hasn’t seen any until now after all.
“It turned out to be Howard. I didn’t expect to see you.” After Vi saw the man, a fox-like smile appeared on her face. The troublemaking lady said: “I just brought a new face today! He came to the Summoners Guild today for his badge!”
“Oh!” The face of the president of the Summoners Guild branch, Howard, clearly revealed a rare surprise, subconsciously watched how a lavishly dressed police officer like Lin Ling was taking a nap in a corner. “Are you kidding me? If he is a summoner, then why is he wearing the uniform of your police station?”
“Oh Howard, when have I ever lied to you? If you don’t believe, well then, Lin Ling! Come on and show him your Summoner Spells!” A little dissatisfied by Howard’s lack of trust, Vi called to Lin Ling. How does wearing the police uniform disqualifies someone from being a summoner? This old lady is also wearing the police uniform, am I not allowed to be a champion because of that?
Inadvertently, this Howard offended Vi, and looked like he wouldn’t be able to summon her virtual clone for the rest of his life.
“Yes, big sister!” To Lin Ling, this dog president Howard did not gave him a good impression either. What with that condescending look just because he was wearing the police uniform. In his heart, he began to calculate what spells he should use to give this old man a scare!
Speaking of the spells that a summoner can use, there is more to say about them. Almost every summoner spell is considered abnormal. The correct use of a summoner spell can turn around any situation in the battlefield!
For example, the summoner spell Lin Ling used on the shadow wolf [Smite] is really useful if the troops were to encounter powerful magical beasts during an operation. If a summoner were to “smite” that magical beast, the result damage can be deadly!
[Heal] doesn’t need much of an explanation. If you could heal all the surrounding allies, the advantage this could represent in the middle of war is tremendous.
[Clarity] is like a heaven sent gift for magicians who run out of mana in the middle of a battle.
So every summoner spell is useful in this world! That’s why summoners are so precious in the eyes of those big factions.
(The effect of summoner’s spells vary depending on the level of the summoner)
Lin Ling didn’t sit idle during this month. During his investigations he discovered that there are some spells that are considered legendary in the eyes of summoners. For examble, a skill that only exist in legends, [Revive]! There only exist records of this spell in literature. Resurrecting a person in reality, what sort of concept is this? Too bad, throughout the mainland, there’s no summoner who have acquired this spell.

Although he was dissatisfied with Howard in his heart, Ln Ling showed a humble smile. “President Howard, please let me show you my summoner spells!”
