Chapter 25 – Elementary Summoner
Although he was dissatisfied with Howard in his heart, Lin Ling showed a humble smile. “President Howard, please let me show you my summoner spells!”
Lin Ling took a deep breath and his eyes gained focus. Not only did he try to gain experience during the last month, but he also has been practicing with the magic meditation technique Caitlyn facilitated him. Thanks to that, his mana points increased from 0 to 10!
Although there’s only a pitiful 10 points, but this was enough for Lin Ling because the spells of the Summoner System do not consume mana. However, before having mana, there were a lot of summoner spells he couldn’t use. It’s like there’s some sort of hidden requirement of at least being able to contain mana inside of the body before using those spells.
Other than the [Rebirth] spell, the cooldown of all summoner skills is 180 seconds. Which means that as long as the cooldown time is over, Lin Ling can continue casting spells without wasting mana. The [Rebirth] spell is really too perverted, but the cooldown time is a whole 3 months! Also, if the person has been dead for more than 1 month, then the spell would be useless.
With those two points only, Lin Ling thought that this spell wasn’t that overpowered.
To join the Summoners Guild, Lin Ling definitely wouldn’t use all of his available spells at once. That would only make Howard think of him as a monster, and maybe some science freak like Dr. Mundo would come over a dissect him.
He must select something remarkable, but nothing too preposterous.
“I’m going to start!” Just as his voice dropped, there was a crisp sound and a sudden flash of golden light. Lin Ling, who originally stood in front of him, appeared behind President Howard in an instant.
“It turned out to be a rare [Flash] spell!” Howard almost couldn’t believe his eyes. This lazy-looking young man wearing a police uniform was not only a summoner, but a summoner capable of using a very rare summoner skills!
A good summoner skill equals to a better standing in the summoner’s community. From the moment you become a summoner, the skills you can use were already determined.
With a better summoner skill, the power a summoner can show on the battlefield increases considerably. That’s why the future of a summoner is closely linked with the the summoner skills they can use.
Howard is 50 years old this year, and despite being an Advanced Summoner, he only has two skills, [Barrier] and [Teleport]. It was only because has the skill [Teleport] that he obtained the opportunity to become the president of a branch of the Summoners Guild. This shows the how relevant are summoner skills to the development of a summoner’s career.
But compared with [Teleport], [Flash] is a more popular space transmission spell.
With it, you can move instantly to a place within a hundred meters of your original position. This makes [Flash] the best option when it comes to chase an enemy or to flee.
The disdain in Howard’s face disappeared almost instantly, and in its place appeared a loving expression like that of a grandpa that just saw their grandchildren being born. He took Lin Ling’s hand and shook it in a cordial manner: “Little brother, did you just arrive to Piltover? Such a good talent like yourself actually hasn’t been registered in the Summoners Guild. You must have such an irresponsible master! Don’t worry Little brother, my name is Howard and I’m the president of this branch. I’ll make sure to handle the matter of Little brother’s badge in the quickest manner possible!”
Vi curled her lips in disdain at the sight of Howard’s change in attitude. She just can’t stand this kind of people that can change their attitudes faster than changing the pages of a book. The fisrt time she heard Lin Ling was a summoner, she though he was a pretentious bastard like the majority of summoners and wasn’t too much happy about working with him, but after interacting with him and getting to know his personality she came to like him.
“Lin Ling, I’ll wait for you inside.”
“Oh.”
After learning that Lin Ling could use [Flash], the original tedious process of obtaining the summoner’s badge was handled quite quickly by Howard. It only took 10 minutes to complete the registration and he also received a free robe representing his status as a summoner.
Gently putting on the cloak-like robe, Lin Ling looked at the figure of Vi in the hall of the Summoners Guild. A smirk formed on the corner of his mouth as he walked towards her.
“Oh, wait! Wait! It’s me! Please, not so hard big sister!” Intending to act as a passer-by summoner and verbally teasing Vi a little bit didn’t end up as Lin Ling expected. Vi almost broke by grabbing it with her giant gauntlet.
“Say Lin Ling, are you trying to take advantage of this old lady?” With a weird smile, Vi loosened her hand and continued: “In fact, this old lady haven’t had a partner for a long time. If you can’t help it then you can tell me, maybe this old lady will be in a good mood and could give it to you directly. There’s no need for such petty flirting.”
“Big sister please don’t make fun of me…” Lin Ling rubbed his head after Vi finally let go of him. Even if he is a Level 1 Warrior, he is as weak as a baby in the hands of Vi.
“It’s not what you think. Even if you don’t believe it, I’m a serious person, and I haven’t had a girlfriend until now.” This sentence is true. When he was on earth he was still the fat otaku he was before his days in the jungle. Who would date him?
“Are you serious? If you are such a serious person then why do you always look at my chest with that thirst in your eyes?” Vi tilted her head and said calmly. Her face was more or less shy, but it was well hidden and Lin Ling didn’t detect it.
Do not judge Vi just by her appearance. Her experience in relationships is the same as Lin Ling, a big 0. Actually, she was dying from embarrassment right now. It took a lot of courage to say those words to Lin Ling just now.
“Yeah…” Seeing how he was discovered by Vi, Lin Ling coughed and immediately came with an excuse. “You misunderstood big sister. I wasn’t looking at your chest. In fact, I was looking at your face all the time....” (TNL: Sure thing champ)
