Chapter 22—Pay With Your Life!
Mo Qingli’s mouth twitched . “You… accidentally killed that demon?”
“It really was an accident,” Liu Niansui said, opening his eyes innocently . “I don’t know why that demon suddenly tried to attack me, but all I could do to defend myself was attack it with my hairpin . It just happened that I struck it right over the heart . Who knew that demons were that fragile? I barely touched it, and yet it just died like that . Tell me, how did I even manage to aim so accurately? Aiya, I’m really too proud of myself . ”
Mo Qingli’s pale face turned even whiter at Liu Niansui’s incessant chatter . With a struggle, she managed to spit out two words: “Shut up . ”
“That’s enough from the two of you!”
The demon behind them could no longer hold back her anger . With an angry howl, she roared, “You despicable humans, I’ll have you pay for my daughter’s death with your lives!”
She brandished her snake tail, flinging it in their direction .
Mo Qingli’s face fell . She knew that in her current state, there was no way she could have defended herself against the previous demon, let alone this one .
She threw Liu Niansui to the side, trying to think of a desperate plan .
Just as the demon was about to deliver a fatal strike, it dissipated in a flash of red light .
Mo Qingli raised her head . “Leng Mei?”
Leng Mei put her spiritual weapon away, smiling at Mo Qingli . Behind them, Liu Niansui stared a little foolishly—he had never seen such a beautiful woman before .
She was prettier than a man .
Leng Mei looked back at the snake slithering where the woman had been previously . “Why don’t you quickly scram!”
The snake demon stared hatefully at Mo Qingli . “Don’t think that I’ll forget about this matter so easily . Wait and see!”
Afterwards, it disappeared in a flash of smoke .
“Princess, are you alright?” Seeing that the snake demon had left, Leng Mei focused instead on supporting Mo Qingli, her eyes filled with worry .
Mo Qingli studied Leng Mei . Her expression seemed to be genuine . Perhaps she had been too distrustful earlier .
She smiled . “I’m fine, thank you . ”
Liu Niansui shyly approached from behind Mo Qingli . Lowering his head, he gently murmured, “Thanks to this sister for saving our lives . ”
Mo Qingli shivered, turning her head away . How terrifying . If she could choose again, she would have never saved this “overpriced” rubbish!
“This young lord is too polite . ” Leng Mei smiled gently at Liu Niansui . Her eyes were as round as the moon, her skin as smooth as an egg, her cheeks speckled with a flush of red . All of this was enough to render Liu Niansui speechless .
Mo Qingli coughed, shooting Liu Niansui a disdainful look . “Why don’t you find some water nearby? Let me talk with Leng Mei first . ”
“I don’t want to . ” Liu Niansui had already forgot that Mo Qingli was his savior . In his eyes, all he could see was Leng Mei .
If it wasn’t for the fact that she could barely move in the moment, Mo Qingli would have long smacked this rubbish away!
Leng Mei understood Mo Qingli’s underlying meaning . It was a good thing that she, too, wished to speak with Mo Qingli . Therefore, kindly, she asked, “Young lord, could I trouble you to find some water for us nearby?”
“Of course, of course!” Liu Niansui agreed eagerly . Mo Qingli glared at him .

Mo Qingli did not deny the claim that she was a human . Instead, she remained silent, listening to what Leng Mei had to say next .
“I’m a special type of mutation within the Fox Clan—the Charming Snow Fox . Outsiders know that we are extremely rare and have extremely beautiful appearances . However, us Charming Snow Foxes have another special ability that many do not know about—the ability to absorb demonic and spiritual energy, including other people’s . ”
“Oh?” Mo Qingli raised her eyebrows . What Leng Mei had told her was something that Mo Qingli indeed did not know about previously . No wonder she had not been able to sense any kind of demonic energy from Leng Mei, even after being in contact with her for so long .

Leng Mei reached up to help support her, but was coldly rebuffed by Mo Qingli . “I don’t need your help . I know that this isn’t considered your territory . Wherever you came from, I suggest you return!”

“Princess!” Leng Mei kneeled on the floor again, grabbing Mo Qingli’s leg . “Please, Princess, let me accompany you by my side! I… I don’t have anywhere to go . ”

Liu Niansui glared at Mo Qingli, blaming her for driving Leng Mei away . He dumped the water onto the ground, angrily muttering, “If you won’t drink it, don’t drink it!”
Mo Qingli turned away . She really was filled with regret . She should have never saved this thankless wretch! If she knew that this would have happened earlier, she would have never saved him and let him die from that fall! Who cared if he died!
