Thinking Hoshiai was joking, Tokimori wasn’t sure how to react. His suggestion was absurd, and not the least bit realistic. Even if he was serious, what Tokimori truly desired was for Yato to go back to a small demon, and live how they were up until this moment, or to live cut off from the Yase family, not destroy it. However, there was no way he could tell Hoshiai that. Wanting to come this far for nothing, was only something an unreasonable child would say.
“Honestly, the way Yato is now scares me. He’s really powerful, but when I first met him he could fit in the palm of my hand, and up until yesterday morning, I could hold him in my lap. I’m bothered by how large he is.”
“Putting aside how big he is, I don’t think your dog’s true nature has changed.”
“True nature?”
“Since my job is to slay demons, I don’t want to become their ally, or understand them. But, it’s obvious your dog loves you with all his heart. I can tell that won’t change whether he’s forty centimeters or a hundred ninety centimeters. Your dog was smart enough to make himself smaller, and compassionate enough to protect you. A compassionate demon, even if it’s only limited to you, is rare. Your dog has helped you quite a bit, right?”
