(Part 1)

WHO ARE PEOPLE who do not know the name of Liok Kong, a great tycoon in Kan-cou town in Kiangsi province? The entire town of Kan-cou must have known the tycoon, the owner of these famous shops and pawnshops. Surely not because of his wealth he is very well known, it is because there are a lot of tycoons in the city of Kan-cou. Liok Kong is known by many people not only as a wealthy person, but more so as an old master who has the nickname of Toat-beng Sin-to (Life Taker Infinite Machete).

Toat-beng Sin-to Liok Kong is a man who has traveled extensively and in his youth, he had traveled the kang-ouw world (world of martial art) as a machete expert who rarely finds his match. After he grew old, he moved into the city of Kan-cou in an already rich state. It is amazing how quickly he built houses, opened shops and bought the largest pawnshops. Even at his fifty, he then married a beautiful eighteen-year-old girl, living a life of luxury, nurtured numerous servants and guards and possessed a high degree of martial arts.

Presumably the guards, or more properly called “bouncers” are very dependent on the influence of wealth and the big name of Toat-beng Sin-to Liok Kong, because sometimes they do things to show their pride. Their hands lightly drop a blow to anyone who does not want to bow, and even among them do not hesitate to disturb the weak.

But who is the one who dares to oppose them? Not only do these average people have high mastery, but even more people are reluctant to the wealthy Liok Kong, especially since Liok Kong has made a very good relationship with the local authorities.

One day the city of Kan-cou was different from the usual, more crowded and the most appealing to the inhabitants was the large number of foreigners, immigrants from distant places. The inhabitants were well aware that these people were guests who were going to visit a party held by Liok-wangwe (tycoon of Liok), a new name for the Sin-to-Liok Kong Toang after he became a tycoon.

The hotels in the city are full of these guests, and their circumstances are very interesting. There are people dressed as martial art experts, as piauwsu (guardians of consignments), women who carry swords, many are dressed as monks (Buddhist priests) and tosu (To priests). This thing did not indeed need to be surprising, because in his youth, Liok Kong had traveled all over the provinces. Even though Kiangsi province is in the south, the migrants come from the far-away provinces of the north, such as the provinces of Santung, Honan, Ho-pak, Sansi, and others.

The big house of Liok-wangwe itself became the center of the crowd and the luxury. The large, high-rise building is decorated with colored papers, paper and original flowers. Since in the morning, the guests have come flocking, hundred people in number.

As always at every party held by people in those days, the space for guests was divided into sections. There is places or rooms for ‘ordinary’ guests, which are inhabitants of Kan-cou city who are considered not so important. They were welcomed to occupy the space on the left and served only by the maids. The high authorities got a more luxurious place, along with other wealthy people in the right room. The most special are the famous guests as high-powered figures and influential authorities, for they are privileged and gained immense space within. They are welcomed by Liok-wangwe himself.

Stacks of gifts or donations filled dozens of tables lined up in the living room, guarded by dozens of guardians holding machetes, seemingly handsome and cool. Almost all guests have not forgotten to bring donations as a congratulations on the fiftieth birthday celebration of the Sin-to-Liok Kong Toang.

This tycoon with she Liok (the family name of Liok) is very happy saw the number of guests who come to congratulate him, especially because he saw his old friends from kang-ouw world that requires coming. Almost every branch of martial arts sent representatives so that there were representatives from the martial art branches of Siauw-lim-pai, Go-bi-pai, Kun-lun-pai, Bu-tong-pai and others.

But what was very exciting was the presence of five very well-known brothers who were called Ngo-lian Hengte (Brothers of Five Lotus). Ngo-lian Heng-te is consisted of five males who are over forty years old. The oldest names Kui Jin, the second is Kui Gi, the third is Kui Le, the fourth is Kui Ti. And the fifth Kui Sin. The five brothers are also called as Ngo-ciangbun (Five Chiefs) of the Ngo-lian-kauw Religion Association (Five Lotus Religion) based in the city of Po-teng in the province of Hopak.

The party took place with a very lively and crowded. Expensive and delicious dishes are eaten. The fragrant aroma was poured over and over again so that the longer the time the more crowded the laughter of the guests who had begun to be affected by the fragrant of the alcoholic beverages. The more this alcoholic beverages enters their stomach, the more regardless their tongue and the more freed their mind becomes. The only felt was just the joy of life.

Over and over the guests lifted the drink cup for celebrating the host so Liok Kong’s face had become red like boiled prawns. This Toat-beng Sin-to was fifty-five years old but her face still looks red and healthy, his hair was still black and his plush, beautiful clothes made him look young. On his left lung hung his machete’s handle made of pearl-shaped gold, and the scabbard sheath was also beautifully engraved.
