Chapter 1.1: Lu Yin

Countless cracks spread on the broken ground, the black smoke obscured the setting sun’s peripheral vision. Countless people struggled to walk on the muddy road. Their faces were filled with despair and fear, and from time to time, someone fell into the cracks, their cries never ending.

The line extended for tens of thousands of people, and on both sides of the line, there was an enhanced warrior protecting the bodies of people every now and then. This kind of person was called an evolved person.

Since the disaster on Earth half a year ago, evolved people have been appearing one after another.

At the back of the line, Lu Yin raised his head and looked into the distance. He could hear the sound of chewing which made his scalp tingle. With a roar, a mutated dog with two meter long scarlet eyes rushed out from behind the burning tree.

Many of the survivors in the group saw this scene and screamed in fear. Lu Yin’s eyes turned cold and he pulled out a strange weapon from his waist. It looked like an iron rod, but it was sharpened.

Lu Yin jumped up and used a single hand to chop off the mutated dog’s head. Blood spilled on the ground and dyed the grass red.

The team finally quieted down after seeing the death of the mutated dog. They kept walking forward in fear.

Lu Yin took back the iron rod and looked at it. There were a few cracks on it. “Looks like it won’t be used for long”.

As the sun went down in the west, the earth became dark. All the evolved humans ignited their flames and spread out along the bodies of people, hoping to use this method to drive away the mutated beasts. At the same time, the group also stopped moving forward.

Going to a strange place in the dark was suicide.

A husky electric current sounded out from the walkie-talkie on Lu Yin’s waist. “Evolved ones with a tail number of 3 are searching for food. Its range is one kilometer.”

Lu Yin’s evolved human code name was 103. Raising his head, he looked at the mutated dog that had been killed, picked it up and threw it in front of the group. “Eat.”

Noises came from the team, followed by a few men. They had gotten used to it long ago, even if there were human bones at the corner of the dog’s mouth.

A mutated dog was only enough for about 20 people. Lu Yin walked out of the bonfire, gripped his iron rod tightly and started walking away.

The chewing sounds in their ears never stopped. In the darkness, pairs of eyes that were emitting green light were staring at Lu Yin. This was a mutated rat. Although its appearance was ugly, the quality of the meat was edible.

Lu Yin swung his iron rod and killed more than ten mutated rats. He threw it at the team. That was enough for him.

Lu Yin didn’t need to look to know that the evolved man had died, and he didn’t intend to save him either. Who knows what attacked the evolved man, maybe it was a venomous snake, a blood-sucking mosquito, or a powerful mutated rat that could bite through steel.

The group was very quiet. Everyone was hiding behind the flames. As if a thin layer of flames could really protect them.

Lu Yin looked at these people in pity, then looked up at the sky. The stars were so bright, and the polluted air had completely recovered half a year ago.

No one knew why the mutation occurred, but in just one night, the creatures had become terrifying. Many people had become zombies, devouring living things. These people were called zombies.

The rest of the survivors’ bodies had become stronger. Although they hadn’t changed much, they could still strengthen themselves by swallowing the crystals from the mutated organisms. This was the evolved man.

In one night, Earth seemed to have returned to the ancient era where the strong preyed on the weak. The huge armory that once ruled Earth was almost destroyed, and Lu Yin saw with his own eyes the explosion of the armory of his city.

A strong wind blew. The blood-stained newspaper on the ground was pressed down by the stones, making a rustling sound.

Lu Yin picked up the newspaper and looked at the headline.

‘Feb. 3, 2200, a day recorded in history. That day, China Sky No.5 entered Neptune, Whitesnow became the first astronaut to explore Neptune. Neptune became the gas planet, that day…'

Lu Yin threw away the newspaper. A little girl carefully handed him a roasted animal leg.

Lu Yin received the beast leg and said with a faint smile, “Thank you.”

The little girl shyly smiled and ran back into the group.

The beast leg was very unpalatable. Although it was sprinkled with seasonings, it was still unsavory. However, Lu Yin ate very contentedly. Only when he was full would he have the strength.

The flame suddenly fluctuated and Lu Yin pulled out his iron rod, smashing a mutated mantis to death. This kind of mutated mantis would cause great casualties if it charged into the group. The mantis' blades reflected red light which was no weaker than Lu Yin’s iron rod.

During the night, Lu Yin only rested for two hours. During that time, he killed more than ten mutated beasts that were trying to rush into the group.

There were not many casualties on his side, but the other areas were different. Some of the survivors along with the evolved humans were killed by a giant mutated boar that could shoot out hard manes and kill a lot of people in one round of attacks. If it were not for the stronger evolved people, the casualties would have been even greater.

As the sun rose, the team continued to advance towards the south. They were going to Jinling, to the biggest gathering place in Su Province. There was an army there, as well as many evolved people.

The apocalypse that had occurred half a year ago had given birth to quite a few evolved people and had even given birth to a powerful expert known as the Seven Saints.
