Before the door that Lu Ban Cheng had shut on the way out had fully closed, it was pushed open again.
Gu Yu Sheng thought that Lu Ban Cheng had come back again, so without looking at the door, he bluntly said, “Lu Ban Cheng, you’re still not finished?”
The person pushing open the door jumped with fear, and the door stopped moving, leaving the door half-opened. Around two minutes later, a head cautiously peeped in, “Mr Gu, it’s me.”
Hearing the chauffeur, Xiao Wang’s voice, Gu Yu Sheng’s expression looked slightly stunned.
Xiao Wang continued, “Mr Gu, I’ve bought the congee you told me to get.”
Only then, did Gu Yu Sheng finally turn his head. He glanced at the takeout bag that Xiao Wang was holding in his hand, pressed his lips together and speechlessly pointed to the coffee table with chin.
Xiao Wang understood the meaning of Gu Yu Sheng’s action. He pushed opened the door, and quietly entered the room, bending down, picking up and bringing in the pillow at the doorway on the way in.
Xiao Wang placed the food on the coffee table. When he had walked to the side of the bed holding the pillow, Gu Yu Sheng suddenly asked, “Do you have cigarettes?”
“Yes,” answered Xiao Wang and he passed the cigarette box he always carried around in his bag to Gu Yu Sheng.
Gu Yu Sheng took the box, took out one cigarette, placed it between his lips, and then lit it with a lighter.
Xiao Wang stood at the side and stared at the smoking Gu Yu Sheng for a while. He recalled that a red-eyed Miss Liang had run into the elevator as he was exiting it. His moved his lower lip and said, “Mr Gu, when I exited the elevator, I saw Miss Liang running into the elevator crying……”
Crying…… When Gu Yu Sheng heard that word, his fingertips trembled, and the cigarette ash dropped onto the pure white bed sheet.
After several seconds, Gu Yu Sheng rubbed the ash on the bedsheet between his fingers, and with his other hand, moved the cigarette up to his lips, and took a deep puff.
Seeing that Gu Yu Sheng’s expression was still tranquil, Xiao Wang mustered his courage and asked, “It was just raining, the weather also isn’t good, it might not be easy to flag a taxi, would you like me to send Miss Liang home?”
“The person who wants to go home is her, not me. Go ask her if you want to know, what’s the point of asking me?” Behind the haze of entwining smoke, Gu Yu Sheng suddenly raised his eyelids, and gave Xiao Wang a ferocious glare.
Xiao Wang instinctively retreated one step and instantly understood the meaning behind those words. He’s obviously telling me to send her home…… He then quickly said, “I understand, Mr Gu. I’ll send Miss Liang back home.”
After he finished speaking, Xiao Wang hastily turned around and ran out.
Gu Yu Sheng didn’t react to Xiao Wang’s words until after the door closed. Realising that his thoughts had been seen through, he furiously picked up the pillow that Xiao Wang had just returned to the bed, and violently threw it at the door again. In his heart, he cursed between gritted teeth: ‘The f**k you know!’
After he finished smoking a whole cigarette, Gu Yu Sheng’s mood had recovered slightly. He grabbed a different pillow, placed it under his head, and lay down.
Just when he had closed his eyes, he noticed that something didn’t feel right; it felt wet and damp behind his ear. He reached out to touch the area with his hand, and suddenly sat up and looked at the pillow.
There was a large wet patch……
