It was almost as though I was having a hallucination where sound had disappeared from the world.
My memories were vague, but the scene I could remember was all too clear.
It was fragmented, like a flashback.
—It was almost, like a toy.
That’s the first thought I had.
That was because, I hadn’t yet taken in the reality around me.
No, to put it simply, it’s possible that I just couldn’t understand the reality of the situation.
It was the first time I’d seen a human corpse.
I possessed the knowledge that a corpse, or an unconscious person, would look simply like an inanimate object.
Yet, in reality, it wasn’t as simple as that.
Perhaps because it was in a strange state in which it looked like a detailed wax model.
“….This…can’t be…”
The first thing on the floor was a hand.
The part was grotesque and bright red blood trickling down, but maybe because blood circulation had stopped, nearing the fingertips it was turning pale, like clay.
Possibly because of that, I had for some reason thought that it was a toy, and then thought that it was a glove.
Well, I suppose in hindsight it was quite an idiotic thought, but that was truly the feeling I got from it, so it can’t be helped.
And then, the number unrealistic pieces increased even more.
The next thing that caught my eye was, a ragged corpse of a human’s lower body.
From the feet to the knees, and the knees to the upper joint of the thighs.
Each foot had been dissected into two.
When I saw the part from the feet to the knees, I realised immediately that it was legs, but with the thighs, when they’ve been cut off separately, for a moment I couldn’t understand what in the world they were.
Both legs were neatly left wearing the school uniform pants and shoes, and had been separated.
And beyond that, was…
