Even though the young Demon Hunter hadn’t gained any new Stat points or Specialization for this level up, he had managed to gain a new spell slot for all spells below level 5. This was a great power increase as well!

Open/Close: Open or close a locked door or chest easily. Effect: Open/Close any item or entrance within 30 pounds, there couldn't be other form of resistance.

Magic Missiles: Conjure up magical missiles. Effect: Create 2 (level 3), 3 (level 5), 4 (level 7), maximum 5 (level 9) to attack one or more enemies within 15 feet of the caster. Accuracy is maximum, causing 1d4+1 pure physical damage.

Darkness: A spell to cover the surroundings in darkness. Effect: Create a supernatural zone of darkness that spreads for 40 feet. The darkness cannot be broken by natural light. Effective time: 5 minutes per level.

Flaming Arrow: Infuse bullets with magical fire energy. Effect: Enable 50 shots (of bullets, arrows, stones) to cause fire damage, on top of normal damage, each shot will cause an additional 1d6 fire damage. Effective time: 2 hours per level.

Great Invisibility: Use magic to shield oneself from view. Effect: Similar to invisibility but attacking an enemy will not cause the invisibility to break. Effective time: 30 seconds per level.

Poisonous Cloud: Summon a dark green fog of poisonous gas. Effect: Those trapped within the radius of the fog will suffer from illnesses ranging from light-headedness to death, depending on their poison resistance. Those immune to poison effect will not be affected. The mist will spread out at a speed of 10 feet per 10 seconds. Effective time: 1 minute per level.

Other than the Darkness spell which he had his eyes on earlier, the young Demon Hunter chose these spells because they seemed to be able to make his life most convenient. Magic Missiles with its homing skill shot and Great Invisibility were the perfect counter to the assassins that attacked the camp that night; Flaming Arrow complemented his main weapon choice of firearms; Open/Close would make his operations easier; he picked Poisonous Cloud because Ye Qi realized he needed a wide area spell; with enough control, the young Demon Hunter believed he would even be able to wipe out a whole camp of Cavalry knights with just one spell.

"Can I come in?"

The Cavalry Captain's voice interrupted Ye Qi who was testing the Open/Close spell. After clearing away the interior of his tent, which had become a mess due to his spell experimentation, he welcomed her in.

"Ye, I hear you've been given the opportunity to form your own investigative task force." Alice who walked into the tent didn't let her eyes linger around the content of the tent but walked directly to face the young Demon Hunter. "May I join?"

She found out so soon? Could Jacob have told her?

Ye Qi looked at Alice with shock, surprised at the other's ability to gather information—the news of the investigative task force should have been limited to his group of friends and Jacob. Ye Qi believed his friends weren't blabbermouths so that left Jacob.

"Jacob and my father are good friends!" Alice said by way of explanation, noticing the surprise on Ye Qi's face, before repeating her request, "May I join?"

Even though she was in her heavy armour, Ye Qi could see the tears in her eyes. Beneath the red-rimmed eyes was a face that was forced to be as expressionless as possible.

"If you want, I can share my shoulder with you!" Ye Qi sighed internally watching this. Then he stood up and patted his shoulder while wiggling his eyebrows. "If you must know, I normally charge for this service, but I'm willing to provide it to you for free!"

"Boring!" Alice rolled her eyes at Ye Qi before straightening herself to take two steps back, distancing herself from the young Demon Hunter. She then turned her head stubbornly around. "I'm just fine, so why would I need your shoulder? I am not sad or frustrated; I'm fine…"

"Of course, you are! But you're asking me for a favour, so you should have known, I would ask for something in return, right?" Ye Qi nodded to agree with Alice's proclamation that she was fine, but in the same sentence, his tone turned into a conspiratorial whisper as he stepped forward to close the distance between him and Alice. "If you lean on me, then I will consider letting you join the team! After all, you must have known a slimeball like myself is not above suggesting a trade."

The Cavalry Captain glared at Ye Qi before sighing in defeat and her tense shoulders sagged. She leaned slightly into Ye Qi's shoulder and her taut face finally relaxed…

Ye Qi laid his arms respectfully around Alice's armour, providing her a silent comfort…

"Thank you…" A barely discernible voice drifted into Ye Qi's ears. Before he could react on it, Alice shoved his arms away and stood up straight. "Now, can you assign me a mission?"

"Of course!" Ye Qi stated in a firm voice. "As your team leader, I now order you to go take a rest, if you refuse, then consider yourself out of this team!"

Ye Qi eventually managed to send Alice back to her own camp. Even though Ye Qi doubted Alice would be able to fall asleep, at least this way she would have a lie-down. This was to prevent her from collapsing due to exhaustion.

After dealing with Alice, Ye Qi, who had returned to his own tent, received a surprise visit from Tatum.
