I actually read the webtoon first and I didn't like it at all at first.
I dislike the art and didn't find it very funny at first even through I heard good things about the novel.
First the MC looked so desperate and I thought it was a reverse harem but she kept making a fool of herself .Over time I read up to the current raw and it slowly grew on me.
Then I read the novel which I liked a lot more .
In fact I didn't recognize it by the cover alone since the art was so different and the title was off too.
The more accurate title would be perhaps "the DUFF that watches " or " the sidekick that looks"
or "the peeping wallflower". That because technically it says "the bridesmaids that just watches" but it doesn't translate well in English or make any sense in context. 들러리 means bridesmaid but in slang it mean someone part of a entourage usually use in a negative way whose purpose is to make someone else look better in contrast. It not really a side character or even a supporting person more like a decoration .
The MC is a fan girl of the novel "The flower of the beast."about a indecisive heroine getting chased by three suitors.The heroine is compare to running a fishery as three fishes keep swimming for her bait.This is slang for playing the field in Korea. She spent her whole night reading the novel and when she woke up she had transmigrated as Latte a cannon fodder in the novel early stages so she decides to look for the three male leads before the heroine arrives. Unfortunately she can't break the invisible wall blocking her from the male leads and gives up.She realizes the sparkly heroine's life is not made for her and decides just to watch the novel play out .She depressed until she finds out BL exist here too! She ends up forgetting about the novel and focus on becoming a BL author instead.She becomes a famous author and since she loves to eat popcorn when she watches movies she end up inventing popcorn .Soon she becomes independently wealthy .
I have few pics where she looks decentThis novel is more of a comedy then a romance .She ends up approaching the heroine to become friends to get the benefits of her heroine's halo and get front seats to watch the story play out.
She meets the three fishes and they all get a interest in her to the heroine surprise.
At this point I thought it was going to be a love triangle or reverse harem but no ,that doesn't happen.
Lots of Spoilers for the ending Beware! BL is LIFE!Latte ends up getting in ridiculous situations a lot which get all three fishes interest .
She helps a fellow cannon fodder friend break out of infatuation with the prince and saving her from ruining her life.She also helps the princess from falling in love with the youngest duke the second fish and they become friends.It leads to the princess becoming a fujoshi and a huge BL fan.The princess is probably the only girl who can be the rival of the heroine but thanks to her sweet temperament she ends up always giving way ti her in the novel but thanks to latte she becomes a BL author in her own right.She is quite sweet and I am glad she ends up happy without a man.
Our MC also helps the fish escape the heroine fishery too.
The First Fish
No Guy Wants to Be Chased trope
Crown prince When Latte meets him for the first time the prince mistakes her as a friend so he is forced to be kind to her .He falls in love with the heroine Ibelin because she the only one reading at the party when he makes his entrance. He wants to marry her as he thinks she the perfect woman.
The prince who turn out to be trash
He finds out that Ibelin is not as kind as she appears and become disappointed in her.
He still infatuated with her and marries her as wife but not as his Queen.
After three years his infatuation pass and their love cools.This prince was not a good man either like he appeared too making him the perfect match for the heroine.
The second Fish
The Not-Love Interest trope
Youngest Duke KennethThis fish is the princess love interest in the original novel but Latte arranges her not to meet him as she fated saving a lifetime of heartbreak.
This ML is a knight who is so beautiful he gets chased by woman everywhere .
He insults Latte because he think she is his stalker and once leave her alone in forest tricking her into thinking she is in danger but the joke on him because Latte can use magic thanks to magic seals the ML sells . At first he has to endure her because she Ibelin's friend but ends up liking her as a person .
He also realizes he dosent love Ibelin but only liked her as she the only one he can touch without breaking out in hives.Latte comforts him as a friend and in the epilogue he invites her to his wedding.
Belligerent Sexual Tension
There is some Belligerent Sexual Tension between him and Latte .They become good friends in the main novel but in the extra novel he ends up with Latte. This fish is the male lead in another story!
The third and last fish
The last guy wins trope
The third fish is the greatest magician and owner of the magician tower
He also known as a tyrant that kills but later become gentle and only beats up people.
He the first to figure out that Ibelin is not that interesting of a character so props to him.
I wont give too much spoilers on him since he the last fish.
Their daughter is the MC of another novel.
World's Most Beautiful Woman The heroine who ran a fishery of man
Ibelin is smart and beautiful .She famous for her generosity and kindness to everyone .
However she has one major flaw she can't make any female friends as they always fall for one of her suitors and end up scheming against her. She has no idea why people always try to sabotage her as she always been kind to them .Lucky for her many male friends are there to protect her from fake friends !Can she ever make a true female friend who is not jealous of her popularity and beauty ?
Bitch in Sheep's Clothing trope
The author had irresponsibly wrote that she grew up in love.Since everyone love her and gave way for her she grew up happy .It was easy for her to be nice as any small deed of kindness no matter how trivial was praised .Unfortunately only her outer shell was nice when she realizes she no longer the center of attention she gets angry.
She feels Latte stole the princess who should want to be her friend and hates the fact her fishes are not focus only on her.This never had happened to her so she doesn't know what to do.
The second and third fish slips out of her hand forcing her to confront Latte and demands everything to be return.
Latte gives her a lecture that people are not things and can't be given away.She is not the main character in real life and everything dosent evolve around her .After all life goes on even if she not there. Then their friendship was over.
In the epilogue she gets better after she marrys the prince and reality hits her.
She able to recapture his love when she gives birth to the crown prince and becomes satisfied with her small stage as a mother. She the main character in her small world and that okay.
I give this novel ★★★★ since it was a fun novel but I never was surprised at the twist at the end.
I was pleased at the sequels and alternate stories .
