Chapter 10 The Embarrassing Relationship

Yue could not believe that she had hugged Shao Xun for the whole night. When she woke up, she found her head blank.

A whole night! Yes, indeed a whole night! She could not think anymore. Looking at his handsome face while he slept, like a kid in the midst of a sweet dream, Yue covered her mouth tightly, afraid that if she did not do this, she would lose control of herself and yell aloud.

Suddenly, she thought of her parents in her far away hometown, and didn’t know how to face this issue. She had slept with him the whole night through! Though nothing had happened, there was little difference if rumors sprouted from this incident. How could she be so careless?

As if telepathic, Shao Xun felt her unease and woke up. He opened his eyes to find she was staring at him. Then he felt the same embarrassment.

“Yue. . . Yue. . . I am sorry, it was not my intention to. . . I should have gone back. . . Oh, no. . . ”

A tear trickled down her face. He was frightened by her sadness. She left him quietly, after taking a deep breath. He had completely ruined her life, even after all the effort she took to avoid more encounters with him.

Shao Xun took her arm, knowing that this situation was a little worse than he’d expected. Yue turned back to look to him, mortified, as though he had planned everything to happen this way from the start.

“Yue, I promise I didn’t do anything to you last night.” He was so eager to explain and fix the relationship with her.

“Forget it; it was my fault. Leave me alone.” Yue tried to calm herself and took back her arm from him. She walked to the window to look toward the familiar direction, where her home was. Shao Xun was nervous and went to hold her tightly from behind; his hug was so tight that she could not breathe. Did he want to do something more? In such an awkward situation?

“Yue, I know you won’t believe my explanations right now. But I did not do anything that would hurt you last night. Please, trust me, okay?” Yue smiled from her sadness; after hearing his childish explanation, if he had done something to her, she would have known it. “I do believe you.”

“Are you sure you don’t want to commit suicide again?” He kept on hugging her tightly, fearing losing her at any minute. She felt like her bones were about to be crushed to dust from his embrace. She tried to escape from the pain coursing through her body, placating him by saying, “Teacher Shao, I have never, ever thought about ending my life. Would you please release me?”

Shao Xun shook his head. “I won’t. I know you are going through a hard time right now. I won’t let you be. I need to help you; give me a chance.”

“Teacher Shao, please let go of me.” Yue Had no strength to fight him and closed her eyes to relax.

Shao Xun finally felt her difference and released his arms. Yue’s face was pale, and cold sweat was dripping down her forehead. She leaned on his shoulder and tried to breathe deeply. Why was she so unfortunate, having to have met him? She could have been killed by his good intentions just now, and he was still claiming he had feelings for her. What a weird relationship.

“Yue, are you okay?” he asked anxiously. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to hurt you.”

“. . . ” Yue had no words to answer. She remembered last time when they first met each other on the roof, how he had held her up suddenly and brought her downstairs directly, in the same bossy way, without taking her feelings into account. She knew he had been born into a rich family, so did he always act in this manner, without thinking about others’ feelings? He cared only about his own stupid reasoning, though with a good heart. And then she thought of the brother—he had been born into a rich family, too, but seldom acted so thoughtlessly. Why didn’t he come find her? He could have the family’s help if he wanted. Had he really forgotten her after all? How could she explain to the brother about last night if he suddenly appeared before her eyes?

“Yue,” he was still calling her, “are you injured anywhere? I’m so sorry. It was not my intention to hurt you. . . ”

“Could you leave me alone, Teacher Shao?” she begged him. The most important thing for her right now was quietness.

“Okay,” he answered, and tried to release her. “But you have to promise me not to do anything stupid.”

He was still worrying about her trying to end her life. . .

“Okay, I promise you I won’t hurt myself.” She felt his warmth now, after he’d brought this issue up over and over again. Why was this kind of concern not coming from the brother?

“Really?” Looking incredibly happy, he hugged her again. “Then, would you agree to another condition?”

She had no idea how to deal with this insane person. Obviously it was she who was in great trouble, considering how the previous night had played out. And now it turned out he was the one in control. “Yue.” He licked his lips and found it hard to speak out his own thoughts, but he continued, “Yue, could you stop dating that girl from now on? If you feel lonely, I would like to take her place, to comfort you.”

She finally understood what he meant, whom he was accusing, and how he’d twisted their relationship.

“You think Lin and I are lesbians?”
