I filled the water guns with water, brought Rangii and Chii to the courtyard, and handed them a water gun. Baduk had fallen asleep at some point so I decided to play with her next time.
“Huh?”
“Awoo?”
The two of them accepted the water guns, but Rangii made a question mark with her hair and Chii flapped her hair a little.
“”What is this?”” Rangii and Chii said in stereo. (tn: Rangii spoke with an old fashioned speech style and Chii in a polite speech style, but they said was designed to be nearly identical.)
As a demonstration, I pulled the trigger of my water gun. Water shot through the end of the toy, spraying both Rangii and Chii in their faces.
“Unyak?!”
“Awooo?”
The two of them flinched back and covered their faces at this surprise attack. I spoke to them triumphantly as they reacted like that.
“It’s called a water gun.”
Rangii asked me a question after she wiped the water off her face.
“Why’re you suddenly shooting water?”
“What are you doing all of a sudden?!”
“This is how you play with a water gun.”
“What do you mean?” asked Rangii.
“I mean this.”
I shot at Rangii again with the water gun.
“Unyaak?!”
Shouting, Rangii covered her face with her hands and ran away. Even now, Chii was glaring at me as if wanting me to die, and I turned my gun to point at her.
“Awoooo?”
“Bang.”
And I shot her square in the face.
“Awoo! Awooo!”
She blocked my attack by waving her hands.
“P-Please stop! What in the world are you scheming at?!”
Scheming?
“Nothing?”
“Then why are you doing this?”
“Isn’t it fun?”
“How is this fun?!”
You’re only saying that because you’re the one getting shot. You see?
“Darn it! I’ll get you too!”
Rangii was already having fun. Rangii pointed her water gun at me.
Hah! Too slow! Don’t look down on how much I’ve trained with water guns since I was a kid! I swiftly moved out of the way of Rangii’s water gun and began a counter attack.
“?!”
Specifically, I shot at Rangii’s belly. Bulls eye. I guess it felt like I was a sniper?
“If you’re going to play, then just Big Brother and the Tiger-nim play!
But I couldn’t help but smile bitterly even in this situation as Chii lashed out at me and walked towards the house.
This brat doesn’t know how to have fun. I know that she wasn’t in an environment where she could play. That’s why she refuses to play even when I gave her the tools to do so. But how long are you going to keep that up? If you keep this up, then I’ll just have to drag you out here and force you to have fun.
“Hya! Hah!”
Rangii ran at me happily, shooting her water gun at me. This was the perfect opportunity. I ran behind Chii as she walked across the courtyard, and,
“Awoo?”
While I crouched behind her,
“Chii Barrier!”
I held on to Chii’s waist so that she couldn’t run away. The stream of water that was aimed squarely at my face sprayed all over Chii.
“Awoooooo~!”
Chii began flailing her hands. I have no intention of letting you go! Because if you move, then I’ll get hit!
While using Chii as a shield, I poked my head out to the side of her hip and after locking onto my target, I gladly returned fire.
“Take this!”
“Unyak! That’s cheating!”
Rangii stopped attacking and ran away, her hands held up high as if signaling her surrender.
“How’s this unfair? This is normal.”
I stuck my tongue out at Rangii, got up, and placed my hand on Chii’s head.
“Yeah, good job. Serve as my shield in the future as we—pfhah?!”
It was a surprise attack. Chii, who had been so against playing earlier, shot her water gun at me!
“Awooo! Die! Please die! What do you think a person is?!”
“A shield.”
“Please don’t treat a person as a shield whenever you feel like it!”
“You brat! Fine, then I’ll treat you like an enemy!”
I yelled back at her and increased the distance between us.
Great. Now all that’s left is going along with the mood and having fun.
…But there was a problem.
“Why the heck are you two only aiming at me?!”
“I won’t let prey that made a fool of me escape!”
Rangii said that, and,
“My target was always Big Brother! I will drown you on dry land!”
Chii said something scary as she ran at me.
Ah, geez. What a nice sight.
It was really nice to see Chii, who messed with Rangii earlier, and Rangii, who avoided Chii, play together like two simple kids.
Even so, I had no intention of losing.
“There’s no way I’ll let you two keep getting me without fighting back!”
I forgot my own age as I was overtaken by my desire to win. In an unsightly display, I avoided their streams of water as I moved like a cockroach, and I shouted.
“Saehee! Now!”
“Unyak?”
“Awooo?!”
Rangii and Chii were surprised and turned to look behind them. And behind them was Saehee, simply sitting in the courtyard and drinking coffee. Rangii and Chii turned their heads back towards me, and I gave them the gift of a stream of water.
“You tricked me—!”
“You trickster—!”
“I went easy on you two!”
At the very least, I didn’t get a hose and spray them with water. My little cousins did that. Ah, but maybe I was having too much fun, because I was already out of water.
I messed up. I didn’t pay attention to my supplies and I wasted all my ammunition! One blessing in this disaster was that the two of them, after getting doused completely by me, were confused as to why my attacks suddenly stopped. Making use of that opening, I ran to the spigot in the corner of the courtyard, and I filled my water gun with water.
“Huh? That’s what you were doing?!” Rangii shouted.
Rangii must have understood how a water gun worked because she shouted at me and ran towards me. She was probably planning on using this chance to get her revenge.
Heh, but she was too late! I was all done refilling the tank! Rangii ran at me, thinking I was completely defenseless, and got hit square in the face by a stream of water.
“Unyaaa! You’re infuriating me!”
Rangii ran away as fast as she could. I couldn’t help but laugh at her adorable display, and agh, that’s cold! Something cold flowed down the back of my neck and down my back.
I looked behind me and saw that Chii had snuck up behind me. She was smiling broadly at me.
“Your back was open.”
That was a good hit. But the thing is…
“But now isn’t the time to be saying that!?”
“Awooo?!”
Chii realized her mistake and tried to run away, but she was too close!
I grabbed Chii’s wrist and placed the muzzle of my water gun on her exposed shoulder close to her neck, and Chii said,
“A-Awoo, Big Brother. Y-You couldn’t possibly be planning on doing something so villainous, could you?”
The villain pulled the trigger.
“Kyawooo—!”
I had just refilled the water gun with underground water. In other words, the water was way colder than your guys’!
Chii’s chest became soaked with water. Hoo, seeing them like that, I saw that her breasts were pretty big for a kid’s. Though she was still a kid. Chii began jumping and shivering at the cold water, and I let her go to look for Rangii…and I looked above and saw Rangii flying at me from the sky.
I knew that Rangii sometimes uses her phantom strength, and it shouldn’t have been that surprising to see her that high in the air, but…what was with that balloon-sized water ball in her hand? Even though I definitely only gave her a water gun?
“You brat! That’s cheat…!
“You said there is no cheating!”
While getting hit directly by that soaring ball of water, I could see Saehee looking at me with a smile on her face, and Chii celebrating.
Yeah. This was good as well.
…Though it hurt.
“Justice has prevailed!”
“Awooo! Serves you right!”
“You little brats!”
After that, we continued playing with our water guns until my eventual defeat.
After we finished playing, I declined Saehee’s offer to dry my clothes using magic. Because all I had to do was dry myself off with a towel and change my clothes. Saehee also gave up on convincing me, and focused on looking after Rangii. And while I was soaked to the bone, I spoke to Chii.
“Wasn’t this fun?”
Chii looked up at me as if I were pathetic.
“…This must have been fun for Big Brother or the carefree Tiger-nim. But I was forced to join you two. This was not fun at all.”
“Geez, for really and truly? And who’s the one who said, ‘Your back was open?'”
“It-It wasn’t like that! Really, it wasn’t!”
Chii’s face reddened madly and the hair above her ears began flapping. Yeah, of course it wasn’t. I’ll just go along with her. If I keep up these relaxing days, she’ll eventually reach the point where she won’t give such obvious excuses.
While thinking this, I placed my hand on top of Chii’s head. She slapped away my hand with her hair. That hurt.
“Please don’t touch me.”
If you do that, then I’ll just put my other hand on your head. Tap. She slapped it away again. Tap. A slap from the other side. Tap. A slap from the other side again.
“What are you doing, Big Brother?!”
Chii stamped her feet and got angry. Ah, I kept doing that without thinking.
“I was bored.”
“Then please play with the Tiger-nim!”
Chii walked away, fuming at being played with. I laughed awkwardly as I watched her walk away.
I’m happy when Rangii follows me around and does what I say, but seeing your reactions is fun as well. I wonder how much of that had to do with me understanding you? Or is it because I get to watch you slowly change?
