Chapter 11: Unexpected Turn of Event (1)

Ye Ke proceeded to the dormitory room located on the left side. He remembered when he beaconed everyone to turn on the lights last night, the left side of the dormitory room was much dimmer. With a beige colored backpack on his back, Ye Ke climbed the bathroom window. As he expected, the window provided an easy reach as it connected the two rooms due to the sharing of the sewage pipe.

With half of his body over on the other side, Ye Ke easily obtained his goals but however, he wasn't anxious to land and have all his body over to the other side. He looked around first, rather cautious. He needed to know if there was anything amiss.

He wasn't afraid of the people. He's more afraid of the monsters… the infected. If it's a person, they'll be able to negotiate but if it's those things, it'll rush to him ready to tear him apart.

Seeing as there wasn't anything wrong, Ye Ke quickly turned over and landed gently.

The view from where Ye Ke stood was extremely narrow except for the half-open floor window connecting the balcony and the inner room. Ye Ke moved quietly and tapped on the glass. He waited for about half a moment. There was no movement. More than half of the dormitory rooms were likely empty and devoid of the presence of humans.

Ye Ke chuckled to himself. Though many had said to maintain a social life during one's university years, Ye Ke hadn't even bothered to know who lived next door nor the name of the people after more than a year spending his time at the university.

Ye Ke slid the glass door and swiftly pulled the curtain down. He folded the curtain neatly and stuffed it in his backpack lest he forget about it. After all, the main purpose for this trip was to scrounge for food and weapons.

He's like a thief. He searched and scrounged the closet wardrobe, drawers, shoe boxes, and everything in between. He searched the bed and lifted the beddings. It's a habit by many to hide things under the bed. He wasn't left disappointed. He found a couple hundred yuan bills. Just that, in this life where living isn't guaranteed, the statement "money isn't everything" proved to be true.

After a few rounds of searching, the only thing he found useful was a box of biscuits and a flashlight. His harvest could only be described as nothing but miserable. If the curtains he stuffed in his backpack were to be included, he hadn't even found a packet of a cigarette which Ye Ke considered important after food and weapons.

Three dormitories later, Ye Ke saw another living being but he seemed rather off. His lower body was naked while he had a mobile phone in hand with a face full of enthusiasm he stood on the balcony watching the sky. The guy kept making helicopter noises.

"Is it okay if I come in?" Ye Ke replied, waiting for the other party's consent before deciding to walk in. He'd hate to anger the other party. It'd surely cause a troublesome situation.

The guy moved and turned his body. "Brother, come on in!" He responded with a hearty laugh as he grabbed a bottle of shower gel and squirted the contents everywhere.

"Thank you."

Ye Ke jumped on the balcony and quickly grabbed the railings. Then he walked towards the bathroom, opened the window connecting the other dormitory room, and pulled his body over.

He quickly searched the left side of the room for anything but was without luck. He moved to the right side with high hopes.

"Jackpot…"

Ye Ke found an extra bag of instant noodles, two loaves of bread, two boxes of biscuits, and a tactical assault knife. His smile widened. This… this was what he needed. This knife was versatile and could be modded to suit his needs and just enough to kill those filthy things.

If he were to encounter an infected, he wouldn't be able to fight them head-on. It just wasn't practical. But with a knife, especially if Ye Ke were to mod it, he would surely be able to gain the upper hand.

Thinking of this, a flower bloomed in his heart.

Sometimes, luck was an important factor in one's own survival.

The outbreak earlier proved it so. Those who decided to sleep in from the exam earlier and those who escaped first managed to live. They were inside the dormitory right now.

Being able to find the tactical assault knife in the back of a shoe cabinet was Ye Ke's good luck.

The sharp blade was wrapped tightly inside the sheath, covering its magnificence. The grip handle had the famous brand Mad Dog, a top knife made in the United States and used by the Naval Special Warfare Groups One and Two after the SEAL Trials of 1992.

Ye Ke had wanted to snatch this type of knife before leaving the military but however, the market for such knife cost at minimum 30,000 Yuan (4,333 USD). It was costly indeed, proving its value.

Ye Ke found it surprising that there'd be such a high-level collectors knife inside the campus ground.

He quickly hid it in his backpack.

There was the possibility of the previous owner who owned this assault knife used it only for means of showing off.

"It's mine now…" The probability of seeing another like this was one in a million.
