This is, uh, well, K but not really. Idol K, for what it’s worth. Translated just so as not to skip a piece. The original text is provided by .

K ~ Seven Stories: 24 Pieces
Piece 16: Idol K (Prequel to Idol K )
by Miyazawa Tatsuki

Compared to an idol, a producer in charge of presenting a performer such as idols and his or her charm to the public was a whole different beast despite moving in the same world of showbiz. For an idol, the job requirement was to gaze at their inner light and, through training and devotion, let it shine freely. The job of a producer, on the other hand, entailed discerning that spark of light in others, bringing it out, polishing its shine and presenting it to the world in a form easiest to perceive. An idol spoke mostly for themselves. Speaking for others was what a producer did.

Naturally, ways of thinking and expression necessary for being an idol and a producer were quite different. For that reason, generally, one hardly ever would possess qualities of both. But there were rare exceptions. For example, Shiro, that is, Isana Yashiro, representing Silver Records.

In addition to performing as an idol, he also successfully continued to produce Kuroh, Yatougami Kuroh by the full name, and a spirited idol Neko, making sure they were in line with the trend of the times. He didn’t seem too reliable or focused, but he, in fact, was a producer with an excellent nose.

And yet, rare as it was for him, at the moment, even someone of his talent found himself troubled. He’d gone through a ton of footage, read through all the papers he could find and made many calls to his old acquaintances, but finding a solution to his current roadblock remained beyond his reach still. His initiative to make an idol unit with Kuroh he’d been working to make popular for the longest time and the up-and-coming idols Yata Misaki and Fushimi Saruhiko ran into unexpected difficulties. To be exact, it all came down not to Shiro-promoted Silver Records, but rather to Homura Entertainment Agency and Scepter 4 Promotion that Yata and Fushimi were respectively affiliated with, and the simple fact that the mutual relations between the two agencies were sour, with the problem being more deep-rooted than it appeared at a glance.

“And here I thought we’d cross over the stiff agency borders and do something really big.”

Recently, he requested an underground composer to write Neko a song, but it didn’t work out as he and Jungle Pro couldn’t quite find a good balance.

“Hmm, why can’t everyone work together smoothly?”

As Shiro was chewing on an onigiri from white rice that Kuroh made and brought him for supper, it came to him in a big bright flash.

“I know! Rice unites everything perfectly. And with introduction of other ingredients such as chopped dried bonito, kelp and pickled dried plum, the flavor is bound to change!”

Suddenly, he saw the light at the end of the tunnel.

“This is it! With this, I will make a brand-new wind blow in the idol world!”

The example the capable producer with an excellent nose provided proved much too baffling for ordinary people.
