Chapter 44
CHAPTER 44

The next day, I got a call from Lios.

“Why did you fight the monster?” Lios asked. It wasn’t a blaming tone. It was like he was just confirming the facts.

“There was no escape,” I replied.

“We was left behind. The only way we could return safely was to kill those leaves.”

There was a long silence.

Lios seemed very tired. He pretended to be casual, but I could feel the aura of fatigue in his voice.

Eventually he spoke.

“Do you know what’s happening in the real world?”

“Yes.”

This morning’s television and newspapers were all about that. Traffic signals broke down, power was cut off, cars stopped on the highway, and the entire district of Minatomirai became dysfunctional. An article in a newspaper wrote, “It’s the return of Pluto’s Kiss.”

The time when the abnormality occurred in the entire network and the time when the abnormality occurred in “The World,” immediately after defeating Magus, were very close.

Carmina Gadelica was contaminated the moment that Magus was defeated, when we ignored Lios‘ instructions. When I logged out, the whole network had gone crazy.

Did the game make the real world go crazy?

Then, is it my fault that the game went crazy?

“There is no data about that monster in the first place. I can’t say for sure that the fact the monster had been killed caused the incident. I told you not to fight, I was thinking of your safety.”

Lios continued.

“However, at present, if things get worse, we’ll have to limit your actions.”

“Will you…”

I swallowed the question which was supposed to be “Will you be revoking Kite?”. If I said it, I felt like it would really happen.

“We will contact you later regarding the specific treatment. Until then, please refrain from logging in to “The World” as much as possible.”

“Okay…”

“For the time being, I’m glad I was able to ensure your safety. All of you. Well, goodbye.”

The phone hung up.

Lios didn’t blame me, but it was clear that he was exhausted and deeply disappointed.

He improved the situation by adding a card called me into his hand.

But things started to turn worse.

And, even if I can’t say for sure, it may have been none other than me who got these incidents rolling.

I sat in front of my computer and drooped.

Lios‘ caring words were ten times more tolerable than being blamed face-to-face.

Just then, I noticed that an email from Black Rose had arrived.
