An’an instantly sprung up from her bed. Mom actually went into the jungle to look for Lu Yan?
Lu Yan was handling work matters there, it would be dangerous for her mother in the jungle.
She was probably out of her mind.
“Mom, listen to me. Ah Yan and I are fine, come back–”
Before An’an could even finish her words, she heard Huo Yanmei let out a shriek on the other end of the phone. The call ended abruptly with a beeping tone.
Huo Yanmei had lost signal.
When An’an called her again, an automated voice message was generated—-Sorry, the number you’ve called is currently unavailable.
What happened to her mom?
All the color drained from An’an’s face. She quickly jumped off the bed and ran out of the hotel room.
An’an hailed a cab along the streets. “Please take me to the jungle. Hurry.”
The cab driver switched on the radio. “Miss, why are you heading to the jungle? It’s forecasted that a hurricane is approaching at 2 in the afternoon. The weather forecast channel has issued a yellow warning, I can only drop you off somewhere nearby.”
An’an’s heart palpitated. A hurricane was approaching?
An’an checked the time, it was currently 12 noon, she had two more hours.
Whipping out her phone, she dialed a phone number.
A calm voice was heard on the other end. “Hello, An’an.”
“Brother, bad news! It’s about Mom!” An’an clutched her phone tightly.
The other end of the phone went silent for two seconds. “I’m on a business trip overseas now, I can’t go over. I’ll call Fu Qinglun and have him settle the matter. An’an, listen, a strong hurricane is going to hit the area soon. If we don’t find Mom before 2pm, retreat.”
Gu Mohan sounded stern as he spoke.
An’an nodded her head. “Mm, I got it.”
Her eyes turned red as she spoke, “Brother, I’m going to take Mom out of that place. Although Mom has been despicable all her life and has hurt many people, including those we love, maybe tons of people hate her so much and curse her, she has given us our lives. Though it doesn’t erase her crimes, but for you and I, she’s our mother. No matter how selfish, narrow-minded, ridiculous she is… it was all her version of love for us.
“She has nothing to her name now, we are the only people who can comfort her in this lifetime. How could we forsake her? She has never once forsaken us even when she was at the lowest point of her life. Mom is old now.”
An’an was right, Mom was old. Mom was really becoming older as the clock was ticking.
All the wrong she had done in life had become just like a merciless dagger, ruining her appearance just like that and for so many countless nights, her soul had been tortured, causing her immense pain in her heart.
Mom was such a detestable, yet pitiful person.
Gu Mohan went silent for a bit before the corners of his lips quirked up and with a gentle tone, he said, “An’an, you’ve really grown up.”
An’an had learned how to love. To love oneself and to love others, An’an had finally grown up. Love was the most indestructible force on earth.
An’an rushed to the jungle, a suave figure welcomed her in the front. Fu Qinglun had arrived even earlier than her.
“Young Master Fu,” An’an greeted him.
“An’an, I’ve sent my men to search the jungle. They’ve found your mother’s cell phone. She drove here but her car has crashed down a hilly area. She had crashed down the hill together with the car.”
Fu Qinglun brought An’an over, showing her the skid marks.
An’an stood there, looking down. It was a jungle down below that looked just like an abyss that would swallow everything and anything. Blanching, she lowered her eyes to check the time, it was 1pm.
There wasn’t much time left, the hurricane was coming at 2pm.
“My men have been searching for almost an hour, but there’s no news at all. An’an, look at the weather.” Fu Qinglun lifted his head to look at the skies.
An’an also lifted her head, the sky was filled with dark clouds as the autumn breeze blew around, it was so chilly her limbs were cold too. Her legs trembled, feeling like she had been soaked in cold waters. She just couldn’t breathe properly.
A deep and magnetic voice resounded in her ears. “An’an.”
An’an was stunned, she instantly turned around.
A few Jeeps drove over, blowing the sand on the ground around as it made a cool entrance.
The bulletproof Jeep leading in front stopped and the back car door opened. An imposing figure alighted from the Jeep, with thick soles landing on the ground, Lu Yan’s handsome face appeared.
“An’an, why are you here?” Lu Yan strode over, reaching his hand out to hold her hand.
The next moment, he furrowed his brows as he spoke unhappily, “Why are your hands so cold?”
He held her hands, rubbing them together in his hands. Once he did that, her hands turned all red. Oh god, her skin was as delicate as tofu, he couldn’t use too much force when dealing with them.
Lu Yan felt that it was too troublesome, he just pulled her hands in front of his chest. Li Si brought a military coat over and he draped it over her body.
“Tell me what happened, why didn’t you listen to me and stay in the room?”
An’an could feel herself being surrounded by warmth. Her hands, her body, they were all surrounded by the warmth he had given her.
His muscular chest, calm and collected countenance, even that slightly furrowed brows gave her a strong sense of security.
An’an’s eyes turned red, she looked at him with teary eyes. “Ah Yan, what do we do? My mom’s car skidded and she fell into the deep areas of the jungle.”
Lu Yan’s brows twitched. He went in front, feeling the soil with the soles of his boots. The soil was slightly loose and sunk a little when he stepped on it. He glanced below with an eagle-like gaze.
Fu Qinglun went in front, showing Lu Yan a tablet. “General Lu, we’ve already searched this area but we haven’t found her yet.”
Lu Yan lowered his eyes, pointing at an area with his slender finger. “Have you searched this region?”
Fu Qinglun’s eyes lit up.
“Young Master Fu, have your men come up. The hurricane is approaching soon, have everyone retreat now. I’ll go down and look for her.”
Lu Yan said he was going to go down and look for her.
An’an’s lashes fluttered, she was stunned and froze on the spot.
“General Lu, the hurricane is approaching soon. If you’re going to go down alone, it’d be very dangerous,” Fu Qinglun said.
Lu Yan glanced at Fu Qinglun, raising the corners of his lips slightly. “Your men don’t have experience in searching for humans in the deep jungle. The hurricane is approaching rapidly, I can’t take care of you if you go. Don’t distract me by staying behind, I’m going to go down by myself.”
“Ah Yan,” An’an called his name.
Lu Yan turned his head slightly, glancing at her. “Leave together with them.”
“I’m not going to leave!”
Lu Yan walked over, holding onto her shoulders with a firm grip as he pushed her over. Crouching over, he whispered in her ears. “Be good and look forward. Continue walking, and don’t turn back.”
His voice was firm and left no room for negotiation.
