May Shen was whispering in Lisa's ear in a low voice.
Therefore, no one heard what exactly she had told Lisa Xia.
Johnson Xia thought May Shen just wanted to say goodbye to her daughter. He tried and failed to see the resemblance in Lisa's face, and so he could only stare at her with a mixed feeling. He still couldn't believed that he had spent years raising someone else's daughter.
Lisa was someone else's daughter.
Luckily, he still had another sweet daughter Linda, which made him feel much better for the moment.
Lisa Xia didn't know what to do with all these sudden changes in her life.
But she kept it in mind what May Shen just told her.
"I know. But what about you, mother?"
May Shen curled her lips, "It's alright. Nothing more than a couple nights in jail. Go find that man, and he will come to save me."
"Alright. I will find him and we will get you out."
Putting her hands on her belly, Lisa Xia looked up at the ceiling and suddenly felt so desperate.
It had only been a day, and she went from the lady of the Xia clan to the daughter of a butler.
She knew exactly the difference between them. And she also knew there was no place for her in the Xia clan anymore.
Lisa Xia looked at May Shen and couldn't help crying.
Charles Mu then opened his mouth coldly like Hades claiming his victim.
"It's about time. Get her to the Bureau."
"Yes, Young Master."
Paul then pulled May Shen up and carried her out of the front door.
Soon after they left, doctor Anna Xu showed up with her medical kit.
"Young Master, My Lady, " said Anna Xu while nodding at Charles Mu and Linda respectfully.
"Anna, here you are. Come quick and check whether my father is alright. They said he got food poison."
"Yes, My Lady. Please don't worry. Young Master had told me it might be food poison when he called me. So I've brought some medicine accordingly."
Linda then nodded gratefully, "Yes, thank you."
"Lord Xia, please come with me to the ambulance. There are some specialized equipments and I can run a blood test for you."
Johnson Xia then nodded, "Thank you."
Johnson Xia didn't feel well earlier in the morning, and he had been vomitting and having a diarrhea since he got up. He thought it might be something he ate that had gone bad.
So he went to the doctor with the company of May Shen and Vincent Zhou.
Johnson Xia took a series of tests and then the result showed that it was food poison, so he didn't think it was a big deal and then simply went back home with the medicine.
May Shen helped him take the medicine and left him in his rest soon after they got home. And then when he was resting on his room, he heard something that he wished he had never known.
Together with Johnson Xia, Linda and others came to the ambulance and then waited for Anna Xu to examine Johnson Xia's body.
Anna Xu kept on frowning after she got the report of Johnson Xia's blood test.
Linda then asked, "What happened? What's wrong with my father's test report? Is it food poison or something else?"
Anna Xu shook her head and then nodded, "There is a large amount of nitrite in Lord Xia's body, which does look like he ate something wrong that led to food poison... Lord Xia, did you eat anything that had gone bad yesterday? Or leftover food?"
It didn't make any sense that the lord of such a wealthy clan as the Xia clan would be served with leftover food, for the five-star chef would use fresh ingredients to prepare every meal everyday.
Johnson Xia then shook his head, "I don't think so. I had lunch with Linda and Young Master Mu, and then dinner with May and Lisa. Both were freshly made."
"Well, that's strange. You see, we could always find nitrate in our daily food, which is perfectly nontoxic. However, when exposed in the air, the food will be contaminated by microorganisams. And the room temperature will activate them to generate reductase, which will turn nitrate into nitrite."
To make sure everyone understood the weird part of the whole thing, Anna Xu explained thoroughly how it worked to generate nitrite. Then she switched her tone abruptly, "And that's it. Lord Xia didn't even eat leftover food, then why there's nitrite in his body?"
Nitrite again? Linda remembered that her foster mother Donna Xie was also in the hospital because of food poison.
"Well, my stomach aches every now and then, it's probably due to those business dinner parties I had to attend when I was younger. So May makes me drink a bowl of salty water every morning. She says it can help my digestion and it's good for my health, "
Said Johnson Xia after a moment of reflection.
"Do you know where the bowl is now, Lord Xia?" Anna Xu asked.
"I think so. I didn't drink it in the morning because I was vomiting and then went straightly to the hospital. So it's still on the desk of my room."
Charles Mu than said calmly, "Bun."
Bun knew clearly what Charles Mu wanted her to do. So she answered him and then went to Johnson Xia's room to retrieve the bowl.
Bun came back with the bowl two minutes later, and the water in the bowl remained full and untouched. Anna Xu then went back immediately to the ambulance and examined the salty water.
No one could be more anxious than Johnson Xia when they were waiting for the test result.
Johnson Xia was hurt when he learnt that May Shen had casted away their years of relationship and secretly transferred almost all his stock shares and private assets.
And Johnson Xia felt bad that May Shen had other man's children. But then again, he had only visited her once a week during those five years.
But Johnson Xia would never forgive May Shen for trying to murder him.
While waiting for the result, Linda suddenly noticed that Lisa Xia had gone missing, "Where's Lisa Xia?"
Bun looked around and found that Lisa Xia had gone, then she became anxious, "I'm sorry, My Lady. I wasn't paying attention to her. It seemed she has ran off."
"She can't have. There's no place for her run or hide in SH city, unless she plans to never show up in public, " said Charles Mu coldly while casting a glance at the front door.
"Fine, just let her go." Linda sighed and closed her eyes, and her dense eyelashes were slightly quivering.
She had already had her stepmother, which made a pretty good start for her revenge. As for Lisa Xia, Linda couldn't care less.
Lisa Xia did sneak off when Anna Xu was running a blood test for Johnson Xia. She went back to her room and searched the third drawer of her dresser as May Shen told her to.
There was a note on the bottom, with a number and a address on the paper.
Lisa Xia picked up the phone with her trembling hands and started to dial the number.
"Hello, who is that?" The voice from the other end was clear and melodious.
Lisa sobbed while speaking to the phone, "I'm Lisa Xia, May Shen's daughter. My mother was taken away by my father and that bitch. My mother told me to call you, and she said you can save her..."
The more Lisa Xia said, the louder she whimpered, "Right, I don't suppose you know what bitch I'm talking about. Her name was Linda Xia."
"Hmm? May Shen was taken away?" The man still sounded emotionless, and Lisa Xia could hardly figure out what he was thinking.
"Well, yes. They said they are going to take my mother to the Public Security Bureau."
"How do you know my number? What... did May tell you?"
"My mother told me to find you. She left a note in my drawer with your number and address..."
The man laughed lightly, and then spoke again after a short pause, "I heard you're pregnant... Fine, follow the address and you will find me. Remember, no one must know about this..."
