Those Sweet Times
Chapter 14 Part 1
This was a historic moment, the man with a sleazy haircut met the
girl wearing dark sunglasses.
Both of them stopped two or three steps away from each other,
silently looking at the other. A breeze shook the top of the old ash
tree in front of the coffee shop, knocking a few yellow leaves off the
branches, twirling to the ground.
In seemed to add to the awkwardness in the air.
Xiang Nuan even suspected that she might have imagined hearing
her own voice just now.
Lin Chuyan: “You’re Nuannuan?”
She was sure that it wasn’t just her imagination when he opened his
mouth. It was such a familiar voice.
Xiang Nuan acted calm, but in her mind, she was debating whether
she should just turn around and walk away or run away……
Lin Chuyan slightly raised his eyes to look up at the sky, then he asked
the second question after they met each other, “It’s cloudy today, why
are you wearing sunglasses?”
Xiang Nuan realized that he hadn’t discovered who she truly was.
The realization calmed her down, she slightly pushed the rim of the
glasses up and tried to find a more convincing excuse. “I spent a lot
money on it, don’t want to waste the money.”
Lin Chuyan took one more look at the pair of Ray-Ban glasses on her
straight nose. The quality made him think of the crying street vendors
as you passed by, “buy anything for 2 RMB, everything is 2 RMB……”
While on the bus, Lin Chuyan already felt that this girl was acting weird.
Along with the big sunglasses, she kept peeking at him. What was even
stranger was the feeling that he’d seen her somewhere.
Was this what hitting it off was like?
Somehow he didn’t feel like it applied here……
Lin Chuyan saved the thought for later and walked up to Xiang Nuan,
stretched out his hand, “I’m Lin Chuyan.”
Xiang Nuan glanced at his hand, it was lean and long. Yet, this hand
had just patted another man’s bottom several times…...She was a little
disgust by that, what should she do? QAQ
Alright, he did it for some good reasons and I shouldn’t despise a good
man…...Xiang Nuan persuaded herself to shake his hand.
His palm was quite warm.
“I’m Xiang Nuan.” She said in a small voice.
Lin Chuyan replied with an “en”, then pushed open the door of the coffee
shop to let both of them in.
It was darker inside the coffee shop, but Xiang Nuan still wouldn’t take
her “expensive” glasses off, making her even more conspicuous. She
walked as if she was blind, hit a table, and almost fell down.
Lin Chuyan caught her just in time.
“What would you like to order?” The cashier asked.
The price list on the wall was handwritten and a little messy. Lin Chuyan
glanced at Xiang Nuan who seemed to be having a difficult time reading
the menu with her sunglasses on.
Xiang Nuan said, “I want a latte and a piece of tiramisu.”
Lin Chuyan wasn’t a coffee drinker, he ordered a cup of white tea.
They picked up their orders and found a place to sit down. Then…...uhm.
It was probably what happened to most friendships which develop in the
virtual world upon their first meeting: Awkwardness as they try to carry a
conversation.
Lin Chuyan lowered his eyes to quietly size her up.
She had an oval shaped face with soft contours and delicate features.
Her nose was small and straight, her lips were well shaped.
He looked at the half of her face that was not blocked by the glasses and
couldn’t put the word “ugly” on it at all.
Maybe she had a birthmark on her face? That was the reason why she
insisted on wearing sunglasses?......Lin Chuyan was shocked by his own
wide guess.
Xiang Nuan didn’t know what to say, so she kept eating the cake. She
was glad that she was wise enough to order the cake, otherwise, she
wouldn’t know what to do now.
However, Lin Chuyan had a strange look on his face when Xiang Nuan
started to take her first bite.
