Pot of Madness Enhancement

After encountering the mysterious old Lukiross…

Suguru and the others were led towards a village, just as they had been told to.

They had their doubts and unease, but the only person they could rely on currently was Lukiross.

The homeroom teacher was there as well, but couldn’t do much.

Everyone lost their head over the End powers they’ve been given.

However, leadership was still maintained, and they’ve been together as companions so far.

As expected, they didn’t start to attack each other.

(Well, that old man will probably stop us if that happens.)

Suguru calmed down while thinking as such.

He was probably the weakest in the class. No, he felt weaker than anybody else in this world.

With a sigh, Suguru staggered while hearing a voice next to him.

“Are you alright? Suguru? You look pale.”

“Oh, I’m fine! I’m just a bit dizzy.”

“If there’s something happening, make sure to tell us! Is it about your End? You may have had bad luck with what you got, but if anything comes up, Seiki and I will protect you.”

Kaede smiled while slowing down her walking pace to match with Suguru’s.

It didn’t matter which world she was in, she was like a goddess.

Suguru thanked Kaede in a small voice.

It was as Kaede’s catchphrase went, “the three of us will always be together”. Even if they weren’t alike, their hearts were connected.

Those words were embarrassing to say if a stranger heard them.

However, those words Kaede said nonchalantly always stuck in Suguru’s mind.

And if Suguru were to confess his feelings some day…he wanted to say those words as well.

“Ohohoho, it’s over there.”

Everyone began realizing that they arrived at a village that would serve as their base.

Rather than a village, it was more like a town.

Several people came to met Suguru and the others when they arrived.

However, their attire didn’t seem that high-class.

It was apparent that they were covering themselves with what seemed to be rags.

They had worn-out appearances, but still smiled.

Suguru was concerned, but entered the village with his classmates who didn’t seem to mind.

When they got to the center of the village, there were a large amount of weapons.

Swords, bows, wands. They were weapons made for countering the Gariud. The basic strategy was to fight while working their End abilities into their weapons.

When Lukiross informed them of this, the students of the class got excited.

The swords and other weapons were things they had only seen in games.

However, the strange thing was that they were all rusty.

That being the case, even if they battled with the Gariud, they would soon break.

They weren’t very useful.

Seiki, noticing that, voiced his opinion.

“I understand what you want from us. Even if our End Abilities are excellent, we won’t be able to beat Gariud without any weapons, but…aren’t there any better weapons?”

“I agree with Seiki! In the first place, as the homeroom teacher, I cannot allow my students to get rolled up into something dangerous like this!”

The classmates agreed with Seiki’s comment. The homeroom teacher, Yashiro Mika, then jumped in as well.

She would normally speak on the same level as her students, wanting to understand their feelings.

She had a graceful personality, but she had a tendency to unfortunately get swept along by her surroundings.

The schoolboys approved of her due to her good looks.

Perhaps even to the point of teasing her. Or perhaps to the point of treating her as a friend.

She had also given advice to Suguru many times about his health and his study habits.

Someone objected to Yashiro’s words. With a cold, sneering voice, that person asserted control.

“Huh? Now that we’re in this world, wouldn’t you agree that the power of strength prevails over words?”

“Hmm, you two have a point, but that girl over there is correct…everything in this world revolves around End.”

(How typical of Hadzuki Sayaka to flare up at her.)

With a stern expression, Suguru looked at Hadzuki’s face of displeasure.

Hadzuki Sayaka was one of the top in the class.

She was a popular girl who dressed smartly and had a characteristic wavy hair.

Her grades were excellent and her sociable personality netted her many friends.

However, Suguru, being the exact opposite of that, was not good at dealing with arrogant girls like her.

Kaede then intervened in response to that comment.

“That can’t be true! At times like this, we all have to cooperate together! Right, Sayaka?”

“This is exactly why…I hate you! There’s no way that we can all get along or cooperate together as you say!”

“No, it’s exactly as Kaede says! This is a chance for everyone in this class to unify! With proper tactics and strategy, we can manage with these weapons!”

Seiki calmed the situation before the two could get into an argument.

Even the cocky Hadzuki couldn’t say anything in front of Seiki, and just stayed silent while clicking her tongue.

Kaede gave Seiki a wink to silently thank him.

Suguru also felt relieved and appreciated Seiki’s efforts.

“Ohohoho, though you indeed won’t be able to fight well against the Gariud with poor weapons. That’s why I have a proposal.”

The villagers began coming alive in response to what Lukiross said.

It was as if this had been set up in advance.

Thereupon, the village’s knights brought a large pot.

At that moment though, an offensive smell assaulted everyone.

While grimacing, Suguru sensed something very strange about that item.

Furthermore, upon looking closely, there was something similar to blood stuck to the pot.

(What in the world is this?! Someone get that thing out of here.)

It was big enough for a person to fit inside.

Suguru, Kaede, and Seiki all felt a bad premonition.

While they were feeling a chill, Lukiross spoke something that made them tremble even further.

“This is the ‘Pot of Madness Enhancement,’…simply put, it’s meant for offering human flesh, or in other words, a ‘human sacrifice.'”

“H, human sacrifice? What’s this guy talking about?”

“You’ve been spouting nothing but nonsense. W, why did you bring something like that?”

“Are you implying that some of us have to fall victim to that pot? There’s no way we can do that.”

“Leaving that aside, the pot’s smell isn’t going away. Sacrificing something would be pretty much impossible.”

Everyone showed anger about the Pot of Madness Enhancement towards Lukiross.

Suguru looked at the pot with fear while pinching his nose.

However, Lukiross wrinkled up while giving an ominous smile.

Suguru soon realized that there was more to the pot and waited for him to speak.

The words Lukiross said were very dangerous for Suguru.

“Wait wait, listen to my explanation…there’s more to this than just sacrificing someone. This pot contains a large amount of End.”

“What are you getting at?”

“A strong weapon consumes a lot End, and creating them requires End as well. Your group can use all of the End this jar has to offer! All you need to do is have someone among you be the sacrifice.”

It was said that many people had been sacrificed to the Jar of Madness Enhancement in the past.

That could be seen as both a blessing and a curse. According to Lukiross, there were enough people present for the jar to potentially release the End it held.

It was a system where a sacrifice was offered in exchange for End.

With this, the presence of danger that Yashiro spoke about would lessen. They wouldn’t fall under as much harm if their weapons were strengthened.

Furthermore, the tactics and strategy Seiki spoke about would be easier to formulate.

Many people would be saved at the cost of one person. They dismissed the thought of a sacrifice at first, but their hearts began being swayed.

While they fell silent, Suguru’s body was as rigid as stone.

His lips trembled while he surveyed his surroundings.

He noticed that almost everyone was staring at him.

The reality was that Suguru was afraid while Hadzuki glared at him.

“Say, we have someone who fits the bill, don’t we…? A candidate for the sacrifice.”

Hadzuki’s words made him sick to his stomach. He felt an acidic taste in his mouth.

Somehow managing to bear it, Suguru looked at everyone.

No, he couldn’t yield here.

He needed to speak his mind. Suguru was on the verge of opening his mouth.

“No! We absolutely cannot! Why do we have to make Suguru a sacrifice?! We talked about this already, what worth are weapons?! We can somehow manage if we work together.”

“I also oppose! I won’t bear to watch my best friend get sacrificed! You guys are crazy.”

“Kaede…Seiki…”

“sigh Whatever! Old man! What are you going to do about training us for battle?”

Hadzuki folded her arms while asking Lukiross a question in frustration.

Lukiross made a slight smile while lightly tapping the ground with his cane.

“No need to rush. Interact with the villagers and then rest your body for today…that is to say, we’ll start battle training tomorrow.”

Lukiross left those parting words before leaving the scene.

After that, the classmates formed their own groups and scattered.

Suguru sat down on the ground in relief.

Free from the tension and fear of just before, his breathing had roughened.

Kaede rubbed Suguru’s back while gently speaking to him.

“It’ll be alright, we’ll protect you no matter what, Suguru.”

“Right, what she said! No matter what anyone else says, we’re friends.”

“Thank you both…I’ll do my best.”

He couldn’t thank them enough. Suguru got up and bowed his head many times.

However, from a distant, hidden location, Lukiross smiled while watching the scene.

“Now then, let’s see how long they’ll last with that mentality…hohohoho.”
