Chapter 16
After an orientation camp full of drama, the usual school life begins .
Personally I’ve learned about the basics of magic from Wolf-sensei, so I could go through the subjects of the elementary school department without issues . That’s why I was reading a book I borrowed from the library as I waited for class time to pass .
By the way, the school also teaches you other basic subjects, but of course, I won’t be struggling about elementary school subjects . But for a student of Social Studies like me who aren’t good with math, I think I’ll start struggling with that subject by the time I get to the middle school department .
But I can start learning about middle school subjects from now so I could get a result that won’t embarrass father or mother .
Still, there’s nothing left in basic Magic studies left for me to learn, huh .
They’re learning about Earth elemental just now, but since they only told us to make an earthen doll of a certain size, I finished it quickly . For the rest of the class time, I spend it vigorously making bullets . I don’t know when I’ll have to fight someone or something, so I should resupply my ammunition properly .
After separating the shell case and the projectile, I created the machine to put them together, so if I have the time to use it, I’ll jam in the Explosion spellcard into the cartridge as well .
I had taught Blau to silence the area, so I can practice shooting at any time . I’ve learned about gun stances from military magazines, combined with my experiences with airsoft games, I could manage to practice proper shooting postures as much as possible .
“Astrid-sama, what are you doing?”
Miine-kun, perhaps after she finished making her earthen dolls, approached me from behind .
“You see, this is a tool to punish bad people or bad monsters, Miine . Since it’s dangerous, you can’t touch it as you like . Before long, I’ll be creating a machine gun chambering 7 . 62x51mm NATO rounds, and so for that I need a lot of bullets . ”

Well, for people who aren’t interested in the military, that’s just about what I would expect for them to react .
“What are you making, Astrid?”

I can’t let the information about this fall into Friedrich’s hands . I’ll need to deceive him .
“If you have time, can you help the other students who hasn’t finished their assignment yet? A superior magician like you must be good at teaching others as well . ”

Or maybe I’m thinking too much . I mean, Friedrich doesn’t even know what this thing is in the first place .

I went around to help the students who hasn’t finished their assignment like what the kind-hearted prince told me to .
For now, it’s better for me not to create a discord with Friedrich . If all else possible, I’d be grateful if he could completely forget about me instead .

As if saving me from my dilemma, Lotte-kun looked like she’s really struggling . I have to help her .
“Lotte, relax a little bit . Just think about the image of an earthen doll . ”

But it’s a bit small .

My advice was vague, and it was because I don’t remember struggling so much for this part of the lesson . I did it as Wolf-sensei instructed, and I could do it successfully just like that . That’s why I’m having a hard time explaining how it feels to other people .
“I did it! Astrid-sama, I did it!”
But even with my vague explanation, Lotte-kun managed to summon an impressive earthen doll with the specified size for the assignment . Then again, I thought that if you could do it with this sort of advice, I don’t think she needed it in the first place .
“Thank you very much, Astrid-sama!”
“Don’t mention it . I was just giving you a suitable advice after all . ”
Lotte-kun sung praises at me, but this is too simple for me .
Now that I looked around, the several girls I had befriended was having a hard time as well .
“Can’t help it . I’ll do it then . ”
I don’t care what the prince said, but if a friend is in need of help, then I can’t overlook them . ”

As I approached one of the girls from behind, she was surprised .
“What is the part you’re struggling with?”
“From the part when I should imagine earthen…even if I was told to imagine earthen, I don’t quite understand what to do…”
Hmm, from there, huh .
“Earth . It’s where all lives originates . It’s solid and covers the earth, and it moistens up in the rain . The earth is full of trees, flowers and grass spreading its roots around . The smooth sand, the moist dirt, try imagining all of them . I believe you can do it . ”

Following my suggestion, the female student tries imagining again . With that, the earth started forming into something and shaped itself into a small earthen doll .
“Very good . Keep it up and pour some more mana into it . ”
“Thank you very much, Astrid-sama!”
A noble daughter aren’t used to playing with dirt after all, huh . I can’t imagine them being so anyways . In my case, I practiced digging trenches just in case, so I’m totally okay with it . Hmph!
Well…I’d get told off by both Father and the gardener if I tried digging a trench in my garden though…
“And what are you having difficulties with?”
“Aa! Astrid-sama! I was not able to properly adjust my mana, so I kept making them too big…”
I continued helping my friends who was struggling with their assignment . I honestly wanted to create some more bullets, but since that prince is telling me to help, I’m helping them albeit reluctant .
Or so I thought, but the prince is chatting with Adolf! Why the hell are you skipping out! And heck, Adolf also hasn’t even finished his own assignment! So you had the nerve to talk shit about my water fountain while you can’t even make a doll out of dirt? Pathetic . I hope you realize the inferiority of your own damn magic . Fuhehe .
“Astrid-sama, can you please show me an example?”
“Hmm—Alright . First, think about the image of earth, and then pour the mana you brought up from within you toward it . And then, if you just think of the image of a doll—”
Bam, an earthen doll .
“Aah! Master! Is this Blau? Is this a model of Blau?”
“Indeed . It’s a model of Blau . ”
The model of the doll I made the size of three heads was none other than Blau . It’s quite cute, if I say so myself .
“As expected of Astrid-sama! I must do my best as well!”

Or rather what the hell is the teacher doing? He’s the one who’s supposed to do what I’m doing . I started looking for the teacher and it turns out he’s sleeping under a tree . So even the teacher is skipping out, huh…
I’m irritated that I have to always carry this responsibility—and yes you heard that right, always—I loaded my shotgun with rubber bullets, aimed at the tree the lazy teacher is leaning on and pulled the trigger .
The sound of the gunshot was suppressed by Blau, but the dull sound of the bullet hitting the tree and the panicked teacher’s sound still echo away . After that if I just dispose the rubber bullet, there would be no evidence left .
“Sensei, there are some children who are struggling with their assignment . Please look after them properly . ”
“Ooh…sorry, sorry . When the weather is nice like this I tend to doze—I think sometimes they had to work with their own power so I left them to their own devices . ”

“Astrid-sama! How do you make such a cute earthen doll—”
“Astrid-sama! I couldn’t control my mana so I made the doll too big, how do I remove—”
Haa…it’s not like I don’t want to be relied on, but this might be a bit too much . You people should rely on the teacher a bit more . I think a more proficient magician than me would be a better teacher than an amateur like me, you know?

I replied to him thusly in response to his carefree smile .
“My magic is mere child’s play compared to yours, Astrid . That new type of crossbow was also made using magic, is it not?”
“W-What might you be talking about? This is a product made by the hard work of the artisan, you know?”
What a sharp bastard . Even if he thought of the shotgun as weird, I didn’t think that he would figure out that it was made with magic . Now that you mention it, I remembered that he was the one who noticed me when I was about to prank the principal . Does he have that sort of talent?
“Do you have a talent that lets you detect the flow of mana?”
“Yes . It’s a disposition that sometimes shows up in the imperial bloodline . We can detect mana flows, so we could find out if any magicians are using them . But your magic is very complex, so I couldn’t really understand much about it . ”
Uwaah . It’s going to be a lot of trouble to fight this guy in the future . If he could read ahead about what’s up my sleeve, I’d need to think of a counterplay . But for now I don’t know what to think of it since, he doesn’t know about the use of my magic—that is, to make modern weapons .
“R-rather than that, your majesty should also teach magic to our classmates . See, Adolf-san is failing again . ”

Well, with this, me and Friedrich replaced the sleeping ojii-san-sensei in teaching the students about how to make the earthen dolls . As a finale, I created a super gigantic Blau-shaped sculpture to end the class . I properly erased it as well since it’ll be a problem otherwise .
But I got to learn how to teach people . So it turns out that I can learn something from the elementary school department after all .
But the goal I need to pursuit is not this!
