Clear skies and a gentle breeze. Normally, I would be sleeping such a beautiful day away, but I was rudely awakened by the incessant ringing of the phone. I tried my best to ignore it, but it just kept on ringing. Reject the call? It’ll just ring again after a bit. In the end, I could only drag myself over to pick up the phone.
“Hello?……” I picked up the phone while wiping away the drool at the corner of my mouth.
“Look at the time, shouldn’t you wake up?”
“Who is this?”
“Chen Xu Hang.”
“Beep…… Beep……” What’s her problem? Making such a big fuss in the morning…
Without a pause, the phone rang again. Why do you have to be so damn annoying…
A voice shouted from the other end of the phone, “Bloody hell! So calm when you’re about to be late… You really aren’t scared of death are you?”
“Late? Who are you kidding? Isn’t it still summer vacation?”
“I’m impressed, when was the last time you checked the calendar?”
“Huh? Who cares about that during holidays?”
“Sigh… Today is the start of school, you have 20 minutes before you are late.”
“Start of school? Stop teasing me, how could school have started if we haven’t even register ourselves?”
“We registered through the online registration for Yun You Private High School last week. Did you lost your memory or something?”
“Uh… Of course not, I still remember that clearly.”
It seems like I’ve already finished signing up. If he hadn’t mentioned it, I really wouldn’t have remembered.
I got out of bed, headed to the wardrobe while assuring Xu Hang that everything was under control, “Don’t worry, we still have enough time if we cycle there.’’
“Bro, you left your bike at my house when you came over to register.”
“I knew I left something behind. Well, it’s not a big deal.”
“You have 19 minutes left.”
I hanged up and changed into my uniform.
Yun You Private High School had taken inspiration from several other schools, learning from their experiences. As such, their school uniform ended up looking like the typical Japanese school uniforms.
I set my phone to silent mode and shoved it into my pocket. To be honest, the design of the school uniform doesn’t matter to me, it’s the school’s emphasis on personal freedom that I cared about. That said, I’ll definitely still run into trouble if I play with my phone in broad daylight.
Checking myself in the mirror, nodding after ensuring that nothing was out of place. Remembering that I was running short of time, I rushed out of my room, glancing at the closed white door opposite to my room as I headed downstairs to brush my teeth.
At the entrance, I saw 2 pairs of shoes. A pair of black jogging shoes and a pair of white low heels.
“Still sleeping?” I thought to myself.
Quickly wearing my shoes, I forcefully pushed open the door and was faced with a triggering scene.
Chen Xu Hang was cheerfully waving to me…
On top of an electric bike!!!
“You…” I was at a loss for words and couldn’t decide to be happy or pissed.
Damnit! You could have told me… I seriously thought I was going to have to run to school.
“Quick, we’re going to be late.” Chen Xu Hang wasn’t surprised by my reaction. He smiled and looked at me as if this was all part of his plan.
Nevermind, it’s a good thing he brought his bike.
After locking the door, I sat behind Chen Xu Hang and we left for school.
“You could have told me you were bringing a bike!”
Turns out I couldn’t forgive him so easily.
“This is to train your memory. You’re so forgetful that I’m starting to think that you’re going senile.”
“So… Where did you get the bike from?” I changed the topic after realising I had no rebuttals.
“I borrowed it from a friend.”
I teasingly said, “Must be nice to have friends.”
“If you’d stop camping at home, I’m sure you can have a dazzling life like me.”
“How shameless can you be, acting so highly after a bit of praise.”
“By the way, won’t you rot away if you camp at home every day?”
Even sitting behind him, I could still hear his mocking laughter.
“Even if I rot, it’s still none of your business. Oh no…”
Hearing my stomach rumble, I suddenly remembered that I’ve left without grabbing breakfast.
“Look, it’s all your fault, rushing me and making me forget about breakfast.”
Chen Xu Hang replied casually, “Just live on air or something.”
It was so tilting to hear him say that so casually.
“How heartless can you be? We have enough time if we’re biking right? Let me grab some bread halfway through or something.”
“No problem, you’ll have all the time to slowly choose your breakfast in a bit.”
“What do you mean?”
Chen Xu Hang replied matter of factly, “The bike is out of battery.”
Mildly frustrated, I asked him, “You’re joking right?”
“I wish I was. Unfortunately, it seems that in a few minutes, the bike would have fulfilled its purpose.”
How in the world can he say such hurtful words with such a light tone…
I resigned to my fate and decided to face the impending problem head-on.
“Hold on, let me call a taxi.”
“Rejected.”
“What?”
“We are running. You’ve been camping at home for the entire of summer vacation, this will be good training for you.”
“Hell no, no way am I wasting strength on that.”
Chen Xu Hang extended his pinky finger signifying a sacred promise…
“Limited Edition Hatsune Miku Nendoroid.”
“Deal.”
My weeb sense tingled and I did not hesitate at all.
Then, alarms replaced those weeb senses when I saw the smug smile plastered on his face.
“How did you get your hand on a Limited Edition?”
“I didn’t.”
“What?”
“Don’t worry, this is just a temporary setback, you’ll get it eventually. In any case, a gentleman shall not go back on his words.”
“I’m not a gentleman though.”
“So you give up on the Nendoroid?”
“God damn, you are annoying…”
I swear he’s doing this on purpose… If it wasn’t for the fact that I’m out of money, I wouldn’t give a damn about him.
I mean, you’re telling a shut-in to run such a long distance. I swear that this is going to be the end of me… Oh god, is this my punishment for selling out my online friends in that game?
The bike finally ran out of battery.
Chen Xu Hang parked the bike at the side of the road, smiling at called out to me.
“Come on, let’s go!”
Is something wrong with your brain? So cheerful when we’re running to school… I know you’ve got good physical abilities but please don’t compare me to you!
