Chapter 2

The Duchess of Brucke gave birth to Rurutia despite the doctor’s orders . She was on the verge of death because of the difficult birth .

“Madame, please don’t leave me!” Gael cried, grasping his wife’s cold hand .

Was it because of her husband’s cry? Did she hear him plead in the midst of all the blood and gore?

The Duchess opened her eyes with difficulty .   The sight of the midwife standing in front of her husband filled her with alarm .

“What about the child?”

“Here you are, Madame . She’s a healthy princess . ”

“That’s a relief . I’ve already thought of my daughter’s name…” The Duchess’s voice faded away .

Everyone in the room stopped breathing and focused on her pulse .

“Rurutia…”

Without leaving a will, she only had the chance to name her daughter before closing her eyes forever .

Gael could not bear to look at his newborn daughter because of the death of his wife . Because she was born, his wife had sacrificed her life for hers .

“The girl who was born after killing her mother,” he cursed at his nanny’s suckling daughter .

There was one more reason why he hated his daughter .

Brucke was one of the few outstanding wizard families in the empire .

Among all the Brucke of all time, Gael was one of the most talented, and of course, he thought his daughter Rurutia should follow in his footsteps .

“You can’t use such easy magic! You’re so pathetic!”

By the time they were five years of age, children of the Brucke family already knew how to ignite a spark to burn down an entire small cottage .

But, when Rurutia was six years old, she could only make a small flame as small as a match .

“Do it again . ”

The flame, which grew in size for a very short time was eventually snuffed out, becoming the original match again .

Rurutia glanced at her father . He was still very angry .

The enraged father poured out his dreaded strength . Rurutia’s body trembled as he drew more power from his arsenal .

“Cough!”

Due to the excessively attracted mana, a type of spiritual energy, Rurutia threw up a cup of tea .

“Tsk,” Gael clicked his tongue . “How many times have I taught you, and this is all you can do?”

“Sorry, I’m sorry…”

“You’ve said ‘I’m sorry’ more than ten times today! I can’t do this . You there . ”

“Yes . Master . ”

“Take Rurutia to the Reflection Room . ”

The servant looked down at Rurutia, grabbing hold of her scrawny arms at Gael’s command . The frightened Rurutia’s head shook from side to side .

The Reflection Room was a narrow room attached to Gael’s magic lab .

I don’t know what’s going on, but I could dare to guess that bruises and needles on Rurutia’s arms and legs were due for her near future .

A pitiful servant himself could not disobey the Duke of Burcke .

He thought to himself, I will bring a priest . In the evening, the wounds on Rurutia’s limbs will be healed completely .

The servant left Rurutia to her own whims at the Reflection Room .

Rurutia, trapped inside the room of reflection, waited for her father to come .

What should I do to make it less painful?

She thought about this every time she came to the Reflection Room, but she could never find the answer . It would’ve hurt less if I’d kept my mouth shut .

At least when I’m quiet, Father won’t slap me on the face .

The door to the Reflection Room opened and her father came in .

But her father was not alone . He was with her cousin, Dior .

Dior was born to excel, unlike Rurutia .

Although he was young, he learned most of the magic tricks of the attacking system early on and was coveted by all the divisions .

Dior smiled brightly and waved his hand .

“Hello, Match . It’s been a long time, hasn’t it?”

‘Match’ was a nickname given by Dior, who laughed at Rurutia’s magic .

“Don’t call me that!”

There was a time when she refused to accept the name and was stepped on by Dior . It was a nickname she hated, but it was something she had to endure .

Rurutia nodded her head up and down, slowly acceding to the childish name-calling .

“Yes, long time…”

“That’s enough chatter,” Gael cut off Rurutia’s words .
