Chapter 2 Part 1
Anyone who knew Ye Qianxi all admired her ability to play the reincarnation lottery------a reputable family, good looks, and a degree from a prestigious university. She was indeed a perfect example of the so called rich, fair-skinned beauty.[1]
For someone who had never experienced a hitch in her life, Qianxi felt for the first time the meaning of “I feel as if I’m suffocating.”
For the whole day, Xu Jimo’s indifferent eyes and his teasing, or perhaps it was mocking, smile constantly floated about in her mind.
~~~~~~Ah ah ah, would he go on to Tianya[2] to open a new thread, “Gossip about a certain lovestruck woman director of an investment company”?
Before her own imagination drove her mad, Qin Xiao’s invitation saved her. “Long time no see. I’m around the shopping district nearby. Do you have time for a cup of coffee after work?”
Qianxi was eager to get out of the stifling Yinyuan Building, so she replied instantly. “Great! My treat. How about meet me at the Starbucks downstairs of the Yinyuan Building half an hour later?”
Qin Xiao was shocked by her quick response. “......ok.”
Qin Xiao came over shortly since she also really wanted to see Qianxi.
The two had been on good terms in the same student club at university. The Medical School, which Qianxi marjored in, moved to another campus after her sophomore year. Qin Xiao was in the Information Science and Technology School and remained at the main campus. One was a computer programmer and the other was a medical student. Though they liked each other, they lost the opportunity to develop a closer friendship. They didn’t stay in touch and, after graduation, their only connection was the occasional ‘Like” click on the friend group online.
According to their mutual friend, Qin Xiao had started her own business in her senior year of university.
Qianxi always admired the brave people pursuing their own business. They chatted after they met, then Qianxi started to ask about her business.
Qin Xiao appeared to be reluctant. “I’m still at the startup stage looking for investors. Though the technology side of my company is very outstanding, but we are short on business talent. We always get the short end of the stick in our negotiations. Purei Investments originally intended to invest, but we didn’t reach a deal because they asked for too many shares.”
Qianxi bit the straw flat and said ‘ah’ sympathetically. Qianxi comforted her. “It’s alright. You are strong. You definitely will succeed!”
“Thank you for your blessings.” Qin Xiao grinned. She wasn’t discouraged by the bad start at all. “I want to be the first platform for video game streaming in this country. Yinyuan’s investor was pretty interested in the idea and I’m going to strive for it. By the way, didn’t you major in medicine, how did you end up working for Yinyuan?”
“Ah, this……” Qianxi was a little bit hesitant. “My dad wasn’t supportive even before I got into medical school. Then something happened at my work…...so he just forced me to change jobs and arranged for me to work at Yinyuan. Actually I didn’t know anything at the beginning, and even now I’m only handling some subsidiary brands, small-time sponsorship cases.”
Qin Xiao nodded without asking more. “Your family could arrange a job for you at such a big corporation like Yinyuan, it’s actually a very nice placement.”
Qianxi stuck out her tongue and let the subject go.
At the other side of the city, Xu Jimo walked to the front door of his team’s base, but hesitated going in.
The base was a rented four-bedroom house. It was wide and open. Three rooms were bedrooms for the team. The fourth room was filled with computers and video gaming equipment. It was the place for all the training and entertainment. Because they just moved to Yang City, they hadn't hired a chef yet and ate takeout every day.
It was like today, Xu Jimo carried a big bag of food back after he went to look for sponsorships.
He punched in the password and opened the door, a big boy ran over after he heard the sound. Li Cang took over the food bag from him. “Boss, you’re finally back ! We are famished!” He opened the bag. “We are having hot and spicy crayfish today? Boss, so you got the sponsorship and we’re already benefiting from it!”
Cherry stuck out half of his head after he heard the word “sponsorship” and asked in his Malaysian accent. “You have the sponsor, really?”
Cherry looked at Xu Jimo with question in his eyes. But Xu Jimo didn’t speak and silently walked into his own room.
The other three understood what the silence meant, they looked at each other and their raised eyebrows fell back down together.
Cheng Yang stared at Li Cang and scolded angrily. “You’re the only one who’s so talkative. Why did you mention the sponsor?”
Li Cang innocently drew two lines of tears on his face by his fingers. “Why do you blame me? Who could’ve known that this sponsor was so blind? Ai, I thought that since he’s so good looking, who wouldn’t invest in him? He should be able to get sponsor with just his face even if the investor is a man!”
Cheng Yang almost went nuts. “What sort of things are you making up in your head? !”
They heard a thud before they finished; Xu Jimo had closed the door of his room.
They all glanced at it, then Li Cang was the first one who reacted. He squeezed into the middle of the two people sitting on sofa. “What should we do ?”
Cheng Yang said. “Cherry, you go ask boss to come out to eat.”
Cherry spreaded his hands. “No, no, no. My Chinese is not good. You go, you go.”
Cheng Yang held his forehead and said, “Ai, never mind. Where is Wei Lai? Let him go.”
Li Cang put on a sympathetic face. “Are you setting up that young boy again?”
Cheng Yang punched him. “The young boy has to be used at the right moment!”
So the youngest and the least talkative Wei Lai in the team received the glorious assignment after he just walked out of the bathroom to “pacify the boss”. “Why me again?”
They three spoke unanimously. “Because you are cute!”
Though he felt that something to be off, Wei Lai still knocked on Xu Jimo’s door bravely.
“Come in.”
The fifteen years old boy hadn’t finished growing yet, he stood as high as Xu Jimo sitting in chair. Wei Lai reached over to the front of the computer screen and asked carefully, “Boss, are you fishing again with your alternate id again?”
Xu Jimo’s eyes stayed concentrated on the screen. “En.”
“......” Wei Lai ran out of words.
