He crawled naked swiftly and freely in the half-collapsed and spider web-like cave.

Without any concerns of the steep surface or even gravity, he crawled on the roof of the cave like a gecko.

He had found five drops of water. With one more drop, he could recover enough to make his next escape.

The fact was that there was no sign of life on this lonely and remote planet. He had nothing but heat, fire, coldness and absolute quietness. The nightmare was there with him when he was born.

He was the last baby born on this planet, who witnessed the death of his people in his long life time.

The cold of the night was being replaced by the mounting raging sun, as the heat started to flock into the cave.

Thanks to the alternative of hot and cold waves, he finally collected another three drops of water, which was a pleasant windfall.

Now he could have more energy to make it to the Melting Pond for a shelter before another outburst of fire outbreak.

Every drop of water was taken by his tongue all the way down into his body.

Right here, nothing was more important than staying alive.

Running for life was the only way to prove that human would never give up on living.

It was also the only thing that he could and must do!

The strength and specialty in his DNA was already engraved in the worst living condition.

A long time ago when fire outbreak stroke only once in a really long time, the cave roof was full of water drops in the morning. Now the fire outbreak stroke once every day. The legend said that before he was born, there was even water mist in the cave, which made people cry with excitement.

Taking in enough water, he lied down on the still cold rock in the cave for relaxing his spirit deep down in the heart.

His heartbeat and pulse both paused at the same time.

The distant rumble from the underground was a warning of another upcoming fire outbreak.

"Come on!" he yelled in his heart. “I am waiting.”

The enormous 2,000-meter long spaceship suddenly emerged in the outer space one million kilometers away from Flamingo Galaxy. It was Giant Whale, a warship which could be considered as a mother ship and barely less powerful than a capital ship among all Milky Way Federation spaceships. The Giant Whale was equipped as a combat sub-capital ship.

After the Battle of Equus, these large space crafts were laid off to 102 units from 250.

The Battle was a failure and humiliation that the entire Federation wanted to forget.

The Giant Whale was set to positive space from negative space to fly to Flamingo Galaxy at sub-light speed which was half slower than its original ultralight speed.

The Flamingo Sun, centre of the Milky Way, was converting Hydrogen to Helium at the speed of every 100 billion tons per second, releasing massive light, heat, dust and radiation. Her life was also losing away with it. In the life span of the universe, Flamingo Sun was already at its final stage long ago; but if calculated by earth years, she had billions of years to live.

The five hundred spacemen on the Giant Whale woke up from cosmic sleep. The self-sustaining and cycling life-maintenance system started automatically to input fresh air to the cabins and to restart the gravity system. This was how the crew could live with gravity like they did on the earth.

A 10-meter-wide and 20-meter-high panorama window was situated in the cockpit in the front of the warship. Seeing through the centre of the window, the Flamingo Sun was twinkling. She had 18 planets revolving around her before, but now only 12 left. The missing six planets vanished under the waves of Flamingo Sun’s radiation and heat.

As one galaxy died, the first to take the blow were its resistless planets.

Over 200 sets of machines in the main cockpit, as an increasing number of the crew kept going back to positions, begun to operate.

The panorama window filtered harmful sun lights, enabling the crew to observe with naked human eyes. They could also read the light spectrum analyses, energy indicators and ray waves displayed on the top and bottom of the window.

At the end of the spacious cockpit was the command centre which could be lifted and lowered at ease. Major General Wadens, the commander, sat in his comfortable artificial leather chair, gazing at the Flamingo stellar whose mass was five times heavier than the sun in solar system. He was even imagining how horrible the lifeless planets they could be.

Every planet represented an independent world.

“Commander, we have lost a signal for rescue from Ark One. Repeat. We have lost a signal for rescue from Ark One. ” A voice of a signal Analyzer was heard from the command centre,

Wadens ordered the crew to search Ark One and kept looking for the signal. The yellow warning lights were turned on, meaning the spaceship entered an unexplored galaxy.

The Giant Whale also activated its magnetic-energy shield to counter the increased heat and destructive radiation.

Living for more than two thousand earth years, Wadens knew very well the importance of patience and prudence.

It was also why he was one of the survivors from Battle of Equus.

After sending out all orders, he left the cockpit and walked down the wide corridors and into the lab on the left side of the spaceship centre. The crew saluted him along the way.

The lab was only accessible for limited members. It was charged by the respected scholar assigned by the Federation Institute. Despite being the supreme commander of the ship, Wadens still needed permission to enter.

After approving his reports and application, the independent smart system opened the door for him and guided him into the lab.

Sannahliva, a top scholar, was sitting by the control table in front of a huge computer screen, paying her full attention to the information and analysis on the screen.

All information in the spaceship was input in the smart system in the lab, but it was only one-way connection. Everything in the lab was confidential. No one in the spaceship could get access to any information.

Wadens lingered his eyes on Sannahliva’s curvy figure and short, sunny, curly blonde hair. As he approached her, he took a deep inhale behind her back and said in his calmest voice, “the signal is gone.”

The rumbling sound built up like beating a drum.

Bang! The explosion made the cave tremble, with scattered stones and grains of sand.

The temperature kept rising.

He woke up from a nearly-dead sleep.

He heard rocks rolling down crazily outside the cave.

He sensed out and “saw” a huge rock ripping off the steel rock mountain after being loosened by years of fire outbreak strikes. It fell all the way down from the cliff above the cave entrance and turned into a fire ball due to the friction and absorption of high heat from the sun, and eventually dashed like a meteor into the sand at the cave entrance, splashing massive dust.

It reminded him of the tragedy that his people were buried under fireballs like these. But this sad feeling only lasted a second. On this bloody planet, it was a luxury for him to show sympathy.

The energy in his body was rapidly building up.

The first burst of fire surged from a crack in the far side of the cave, a sign of the beginning of the fire outbreak.

He sprang to his feet and ran towards the cave entrance at full speed.

Another run for life began.

If he couldn’t make it to the Melting Pond before the full explosion of fire outbreak, he could be burnt to ashes.

Sannahliva worked on the complicated machines on the table while reading the indicators and analysis on the screen. Without looking back, “I am aware, Major General Wadens.” she said.

It was not surprising for Wadens that she gave him the cold shoulder. Scholars in the Institute were all freaks who were obsessed with controlling and exploring the universe. They worked much harder to study on protecting other colonial galaxies and their beautiful home—solar system—especially after the loss of Battle of Equus.

This mission was one of the attempts, possibly the most fundamental and important one.

Among all the scholars, men or women, he had contacted with, none could attract him like this woman in front of him. In his long life, he met thousands of gorgeous women. But she was irresistible to him because only she could make him feel his heart beat.

DNA Genetics and Eugenics had made a remarkable progress. There were nearly no ugly or badly-fitted human kinds in the universe, let alone the sick, old, and disabled ones. Whether the person was pretty or not depended on what he or she brought out from inside. Sannahliva was astonishingly bewitching in this way.

Her sculptural beautiful face was a big surprise. She was born beautiful in a way beyond any genetic or eugenic efforts. She was a royal-level beauty above top beauties, with her beautiful mind and exceptional wisdom.

Among all super beautiful women he ever met, Chiwheuve, president of the Supreme Federation Committee, was the only one that surpassed her.

He thought himself attractive to women. When he first met Sannahliva, he was deeply attracted to her clear and wise eyes. He was so into her light and smooth steps when she walked. Her face was cold and serious to him, but it didn’t stop him making a decision to crack her solid shell, and pick the delicious fruit deep inside.

That was why he, for the first time ever, never flirted with other women when the spaceship travelled nearly a thousand earth hours at ultrlight speed before entering into the reflexive space, because he had someone more attractive to him.

This live-life-in-the-lab woman was manipulating the panels. She zoomed up one planet of the Flamingo Galaxy  on the huge screen and said with her emotionless tone, “The cause of the signal interrupt may be that the Ark One relics is on the dying Planet Seven which is also the planet closest to Flamingo Sun.”

She made a pause. And before he said anything back, she proceeded, “It takes Planet Seven 12 days to complete one rotation and 120 earth years to complete one revolution. As the Flamingo Sun expands to a big red stellar, its destructive emission activates a chain splitting of inner heat core of Planet Seven. The entire planet surface, therefore, generates hot liquid and massive, various toxic gas and rays. In that case, any signal would be shut down from inside. That is also why we cannot detect any. ”

Her analysis was simple but clear. Wadens himself was an expert in astrology too. To impress her, he asked with a smile, “Are you saying that the relics of Ark One is somewhere on Planet Seven?”

“If the signal is cut off, that should be the only accessible explanation.” Sannahliva replied with her sweet and deep voice,

Wadens was shocked, “None of our spaceships or things we made can be left a bit on that horrible planet. How can Ark One be able to send a complete signal for help?”

Sannahliva said, “I wish I knew how. Having gone through six earth days of storm, the half planet of Planet Seven where Ark One crashed is supposed to be on the opposite side of Flamingo Sun. It’d be six earth days’ darkness on that side. All lava will be rapidly solidified, and cold wind will sweep the mountains, deserts and every corner of its rugged surface. If the signal reappears, it proves that my assumption is right. Then you should send out scout vessels immediately to the planet to rescue people there. ”

Wadens rubbed his hands and said, “All we can do now is to wait with some patience. May I invite you to my cabin for dinner? We can discuss about the details as well. ”

Not a tiny change has been made to Sannahliva’s beautiful face. “I am sorry. I never accept any invitation concerning men and women. You should have read this special note in my profile.” She said in an emotionless tone.
