Chapter 38 – Change

After sending off a special Engraving Priest, Old Lite (Lǐtè) 1 simply did not understand. He believed in the young lady’s eyesight, and in fact all of the family felt the same. The Rui Bo Te family tribe was a noble tribe of Ye Lu Samo City, however something today had affected the young mistress’ actions. The Rui Bo Te family was in fact very vast and very powerful, and this was true not only in Ye Lu Samo, but their businesses in other cities were growing larger and larger.

Though large tribes were the main force in the Meng Jia Empire, the tribes that had only average combat power would have to display their abilities in other areas. The Rui Bo Te tribe, for example, had an honest character and people would be more inclined to do business with them in comparison to the cunning Fu Ke Si.

With this, these years the Rui Bo Te family tribe had managed to amass an enormous amount of wealth and—along with that wealth—had also worked to create an intelligence network. Otherwise, under the circumstances when their military might was limited, their wealth would bring them disaster. Every city the Rui Bo Te family was in had vigorous operation, as there was only one way to gain the favour of the temple there: giving money. At the same time, they also needed to nurture their own talents and influence.

In the Rui Bo Te world, only people with the Hexin (Héxīn) family surname could be considered as a Rui Bo Te. As Ai Wei Er was a special existence, the riskier their situation was, the lower the profile they would keep. The Rui Bo Te family of Ye Lu Samo had already expanded to a frightening extent, but they did not have a large reputation: this was the traditional path of the Rui Bo Te.

The family had high hopes for Ai Wei Er. In this world that abided by the laws of the jungle, merely relying on connections was not enough; they had to have enough influence, and this was a natural advantage the large tribe had. No one would dare to despise the poor Bi Er tribe as they had strength in numbers; for them to have a say in politics was only natural.

“Miss, you already have plans. Is it okay to change them just for this person?” Lite inquired with concern. He had watched Ai Wei Er grow up and every move that she had made had been correct. Who would have thought that the Rui Bo Te family’s vast growth was all due to this small girl’s hands?

Even if it was the intelligence of the Fu Ke Si, measured up against her it was counted only as a trifling matter. Not only that, she also had what the Fu Ke Si did not: the ability to conceal one’s strength and bide one’s time.

Ai Wei Er faintly smiled. “Lite, whether it’s worth it or not I do not know. Following this person brings many situations that I cannot even anticipate.”

Lite was astounded; this was not the young lady’s style. Even though a Bi Er Engraving Master was extraordinary and would perhaps be counted as a genius of a century for the Bi Er clan, this still was not in the same league as Ai Wei Er. To the rich and imposing Rui Bo Te tribe, a Spirit Engraving Master was not a problem; Lite could not understand why she would change her plans for this nobody.

“Let the others disperse. Call Ke Te and Yu Ka Bo Do,” Ai Wei Er laughed.

“Hehe, only the young lady can get these two rivals to work together and not fight,” Lite laughed in response.

“Have you gathered the information on that mysterious person

?” asked Ai Wei Er.

“The investigation has already been carried out across the cities. The person’s name is called Zou Liang: a very peculiar name. In the Meng Jia Empire, there is no name that can be used as a reference and this could be a false name. But his last opponent—Fu Luolun Sasi’s Androngni-Lika—believes that he is a Beast God Martial Artist.”

Fu Ke Si have a wide knowledge and a retentive memory; Like had committed all of this information to memory.

“Beast God Martial Artist, it seems like it is a very ancient legend.”

“Hehe, it is, Young Lady. It is an ancient legend, though whether it actually exists or not, no one knows. However, this person really had this feeling.”

“Keep on watching for information.” Ai Wei Er nodded.

This was Ai Wei Er’s responsibility, as to survive in this world, intelligence must come first. Rather than the ones that had already gained fame and recognition and had put in all of the hard work, it was better to start with the youths; these people would become the rulers of the future. If any one special person appeared in any city or the Beast Spirit World, there would be an intelligence file that would be sent back here, and these files would be given to Lite to analyse before he reported it to Ai Wei Er.

Zou Liang had already predicted that Ai Wei Er would agree and did not squander too much time, and the kind of feelings between friends in the same generation allowed the conversation between the two to be very comfortable. Ai Wei Er had said that there would be two very strong attack specialists and he would definitely trust this, and coupled with Ai Wei Er included as the medic the team had been formed.

After returning, Zou Liang shut himself up in the laboratory and started to create his Engraving Knife. Since a Spirit Engraving Master had to form his tools without any attributes, any essence in it was a waste of Beast Spirit, and any attributes would have negative effects on the Spirit Engraving. Zou Liang found it a pity, however there was no other alternative to this step; Zou Liang was very clear that if one wished to receive something, they had to pay the price.

He did not need anyone else’s help as the forming of the Spirit Engraving techniques were reflected by the heart. For a full two days, Zou Liang did not leave the room and food was delivered by the Priests. The Head Priest had already made sure that no one would bother him, and Tuo Ma Si was very confident in this junior; though normal people would require direction, this junior did not need any at all, going completely by his own method.

Ou Nisi Te diligently continued training and—though his comprehension abilities were a bit lacking—he was persevering enough, had absorbed enough, and was not allowing his concentration to slip. Holding the horse stance, push-ups, these were all easy but suited him well. During training, he would experience changes to his body but the thing he loved most was Clasping Avalanche. If his older brother said he could train in this technique then he definitely could; he would not let his older brother down. Not only this, but Ou Nisi Te wished to grow strong and become someone qualified to follow him.

This was Ou Nisi Te’s wish; it seems that even naive people had their dreams.

The comfortable life at the temple and becoming a Berserker Mode warrior did not induce much of a change in Ou Nisi Te.

It was Ao Li Quan Ya who was bored. This well-behaved Ou Nisi Te was no fun and only knew how to diligently train: a clumsy person who unceasingly tackled trees and wasn’t even scared of giving himself a concussion 2. Since Ya Se was still in closed-doors, it had left this abundantly kind and beautiful Priestess idle, though that old fox Tuo ma Si had passed on his set of war songs to Ao Li Quan Ya. In Tuo Ma Si’s eyes, it was safer than letting Ao Li Quan Ya randomly run around.

After two days, Ya Se left his seclusion and Ao Li Quan Ya—who had been in the midst of a lesson—rushed out, making Tuo Ma Si repeatedly shake his head. But in his heart he also wished to see this disciple’s first Engraving Knife.

Zou Liang did not conceal it and showed his Engraving Knife to the light, making Ao Li Quan Ya—full of expectations—feel a bit disappointed. It was just a normal dagger. It was slightly thinner than a normal dagger and did not look at all like a great scholar’s work.

“Ya Se, this was what you created after shutting yourself in for two days? One day should’ve been enough, right?”

Ao Li Quan Ya pouted; the higher one’s expectations, the more disappointed they would be.

Ya Se laughed. “I’m a newbie and as long as it’s usable, it’s fine. Master, the knife is done, and the next two days I will be using the Demon Beast’s Beast Spirit to practice. I’ll be borrowing first since it is still a training period for me.”

Tuo Ma Si also couldn’t see what was so special about this Engraving Knife; it could only be said to be far too ordinary, and compared to Ya Se’s designs the differences were indeed quite large. It couldn’t be that his hands couldn’t keep up with his ideas, right? 3

Author used (Lǐkè) here but Lite for the rest of the chapter so I’ll use Lite for now.  The Chinese connotations of this has a slight meaning of retard.  In chinese 眼高手低 means to have eyes that look upwards and hands that are very clumsy or another way of putting this would be having high standards but little ability.
