Chapter 33 – Fighting for the Kill

For a normal warrior, the amount of Beast Spirit they could lose was limited, but these two had accumulated a large amount of Beast Spirit and the fight’s results would bear heavy consequences.

“The genuine Foluolun Sasi’s Adongni-Lika.”

On the arena, Adongni-Lika carefully measured up his opponent. He could not determine what tribe he was from nor could he figure out what occupation he was inclined towards, but seeing that last explosive strike there was a high probability that he was following the path of a Crusader.

“Zou Liang.”

Zou Liang wished to tell these people that this brother had come from Earth.

Lika was slightly stunned by this eccentric name and his eyes swept across Zou Liang like a sharp blade. However, it did not spark any reaction from the opponent.

“Bring out your weapon or else you will not be my opponent!” Lika stated. In a fight like this, he didn’t wish to take advantage of the other. One could only improve themselves by undergoing intense battles, else Lika would not be so sincere and would just seek an easy victory without expending much effort.

“My entire body is a weapon so there’s no need to be polite,” Zou Liang indifferently replied.

The audience was in an uproar. Every occupation had their weapon of choice and this was just far too arrogant; Lika gave up trying to convince him. Even though the Beast Transformation had its advantages, the techniques were very poor and easy to exploit… but this was a Shadow Hunter that was blessed by the Beast God. It was the Fuluolun Sasi’s Andongni-Lika, yet this punk still showed such arrogance.

Andongni-Lika licked his dagger, thinking his opponent akin to a storm that specialized in frantic, unceasing attacks; this naturally caused his blood to boil with anticipation.

Ceng…..

Lika started his attack. Shadow Hunters were usually always the first to strike, though this attack was not a direct assault since Lika was very aware of his opponent’s perception. One attack wouldn’t be enough; if Zou Liang grasped an opportunity to counter-attack, he would be able to unceasingly and continuously attack Lika in response.

Lika’s speed was not fast but neither could it be considered slow as he subtly adjusted his rhythm and angle. Yet Zuo Liang silently stood still, motionless even when the opponent had circled around to his back.

This was definitely a chance!

The warriors below were already screaming for Lika to attack; Zou Liang’s opponent was a Shadow Hunter, making an attack from the rear 100% certain death.

But Lika did not. He felt that this was a trap, and even though he did not know how the opponent would manage to escape, he trusted his premonition to be accurate. This was an opponent to be feared, one that lived on the edge just as he did; when opposing such a person, his heart could not wish for a single thread of luck.

Lika circled back to the front to launch his offensive, though there was a sigh of pity from the audience for the wasted opportunity. In terms of battle tactics, this was very unexpected of a Shadow Hunter.

In a flash he had accelerated with frightening speed, the dagger in his hand glimmering with a cold light. Ceng ceng ceng; three slices flashed towards Zuo Liang, not trying to kill him in one strike—as one might to deal with a weakling—but aiming for vulnerabilities. By attacking another’s weaknesses, more and more flaws would be exposed.

These three extremely fast slices left room for only three possibilities of escape and Zou Liang retreated back a step. Without a doubt, this kind of technique was performed by an

expert Shadow Hunter and was the hardest to deal with. Weaponless, Zou Liang was not afraid of fighting against long weapons; the saying went ‘one inch longer, one inch stronger’, but it would be easy to initiate close-quarter combat against it. To the contrary, a Shadow Hunter’s dagger was the nemesis of close-quarter combat.

Lika was not greedy!

Since he had given up on killing in one strike and had a lot of patience, he had not given Zou Liang any chances this time; Zou Liang had met his match!

The fox tribe’s dexterity and alertness paired with patience and viciousness made this Shadow Hunter extremely difficult to deal with, even before mentioning the dagger that was after Zou Liang’s life 1.

Lika had never met such a difficult opponent. Even though Zou Liang was up against a life-threatening dagger, he still dared to perform dangerous maneuvers one after another, maneuvers that prevented an opportunity to close in for the kill.

It was an easy thing to say, but of the number of people who had died by his hand, none could pull off such a feat: each and every one of them had evidently been traumatized by the danger of his keen knife.

Ceng…….

Zou Liang suffered a wound and blood began to seep out, though even here he did not stop moving, nor could he stop. The wound he had suffered was necessary and would change his opportunities to attack.

A kick flew out only to definitively miss, Lika flashing past the kick that could have left him in pieces.

The two had seemingly returned to their original positions, the audience stunned by this lightning-like, fiery and intense fight.

So fights could be carried out like this!

A duel where danger lurked at every side. If it was another person, they would have left the stage long ago, but there was a reason that the seemingly invincible Lika had gained the Beast God’s blessing.

Looking at the situation, it seemed as though the dish of meat had met its match; though the two’s abilities were equal, he was missing a weapon and would pay for it with his life. Any expert who was here to gather experience would at the very least need one piece of equipment: the weapon.

With the same achievements in techniques as Zou Liang, Lika’s blessed dagger was a weapon that would pair victory with slaughter.

Blood dripped down, though it was unknown from when Zou Liang had received the small wound between his eyebrows. The knife attack did not actually land, but the knife qi had opened up a small wound that allowed a trickle of blood to flow.

The two did not move randomly but instead completely locked onto their target, and though they didn’t appear as though they had just finished a clash, their bodies’ energy depletion was extreme. Lika had never been so excited before; this opponent could initiate a melee fight and rival him! If this warrior had a weapon, the fight would have already been over for him. But he did not!

The strong only gained happiness from defeating opponents stronger than them.

Blood trickled down onto Zuo Liang’s eyelid: the moment that Lika had been waiting for. He shifted his weight downwards and charged towards Zuo Liang like a phantom while the blood affected Zou Liang’s vision 2.

Everyone was waiting for this crafty fox to send out his most powerful killing technique. Lika fiercely surged in mid-air, his body in place while the dagger spun in a slicing motion towards Zou Liang’s throat.

The warriors watching with every drop of concentration under the arena could not even react to such a frightening change, much less Zou Liang. The keen dagger was already slicing towards his throat.

Zou Liang’s body fell prone, the dagger passing close enough to drop a few strands of his hair to the ground. His hands pressed against the earth—keeping himself off of the ground—before he flipped himself back up.

The attack had missed, putting Lika on alert. On the ground, Zou Liang’s face had held a trace of a cruel, cold smile, and a fist was thrown out along with his flip.

Lika’s eyes traced the attack with indifference, thrusting the dagger towards the fist; in the world of Shadow Hunters, only attacking existed.

Zou Liang’s fierce fist could indeed send Lika flying, but before that the fist would end up penetrated.

But he was Zou Liang!

The dagger passed through the fist as it transformed into an open hand, Zou Liang’s five fingers nimbly grabbing onto Lika’s wrist and—with a push, drag, and a reverse—flipping him.

kacha!

A knee made contact but Lika ignored this pain and his broken wrist; he swapped his dagger to his left hand and stabbed out.

Attacking to save himself.

The shadows that had been intertwined separated.

Only a moment had passed but Lika—who had held the advantage—now had a broken wrist.

Killing intent spread all around.

In Chinese this could also mean that it is very hard for him to deal with.  The writer used the wrong word here I believe. He used 印象(impression (dent)) instead of 影像(affect)
