Chapter 1 - I was a Sword Master in my Previous Life (3)

Sung Joon picked up his phone. The Dungeon Bureau had called because the investigation results were out and he had to physically attend and write a statement.

'Now that I think about it, I forgot to sell the magic stones.'

Because he needed to sell the magic stones too, Sung Joon hurried and visited the Dungeon Bureau to make his written statement.

"So what you're saying is that the Living Armors turned off by themselves?"

Sung Joon nodded.

"It seems that the Living Armors were the type limited by a set amount of operation time."

Because there were many special circumstances in the dungeon, the investigator nodded his head and accepted his statement. It was concluded that due to the unexpected Living Armor attack, all the party members, excluding Sung Joon, were annihilated.

He was freed from the investigation and he immediately headed to the Appraisal Center, where he could sell his magic stones. He spilled the bag, which was filled to the brim with magic stones, in front of the worker in charge.

"The calculation is complete. It comes out to 11 million won."

Because the rest of the party members had died, he was allotted the 11 million won. The employee responsible transferred the allotted amount to his bank account on the spot.

Sung Joon checked his bank balance with his smartphone and his eyes widened. Tears welled in his eyes. For the time being, with this much money, his father could stop worrying and receive his treatment.

Sung Joon left the Appraisal Center and transferred all but 1 million won, which he kept back for his living expenses, to his father's bank account.

As soon as he deposited it, his phone rang.

[Dad]

Sung Joon picked up his phone.

"Dad, how're you feeling?"

He could hear his father's weak laughter over the phone.

"I'm doing fine because of you."

Sung Joon pushed back the coming tears. Sung Joon talked to the doctor frequently. Therefore, he knew how bad his father's condition was.

"Anyway, you sent me money… It was a huge amount, will that be ok?

"Yes, I found some items in the dungeon."

"You didn't send me all your money, right?"

"Please don't worry. I can just earn more."

"Ok, I won't say anything more. However, don't push yourself too much."

"Please don't worry, dad."

Even though his father was dying of cancer, he still worried about his child first. Sung Joon spoke with moist eyes and stopped the onset of his emotions.

Finally, as the call ended, he arrived at his one-room apartment.

"I'm strangely overflowing with energy."

He had only slept a little more than usual but he was overflowing with energy.

"I feel like I could lift a boulder."

He went up the mountain behind his home to test that. He had thought it wasn't possible and so he approached a rock the size of a small refrigerator.

"What, what's this?"

It was embarrassingly light. He was so surprised that he dropped the rock.

Judging from the way the rock roared when it collided with the ground, it didn't seem to be a paradoxical situation where the weight of the rock was 'missing'.

"Oh my god."

It was the same with the other boulders. He could lift things he couldn't lift before. The Dungeon called 'Shrine for the Past Life' was the starting point for some sort of change.

However, he couldn't pinpoint exactly what had changed. That was why he performed a simple test.

It wasn't until late that night that he finished his tests. Sung Joon wrote down his results on his Memo app. In the past, he could barely lift a boulder the size of a soccer ball, but now he could easily lift a boulder the size of a small refrigerator.

That wasn't all.

His 100-meter sprint had become two times better than before and he didn't even get tired from running until 10:00 at night without rest.

'My body got stronger?'

When you use your Mana often, the body gradually strengthens. Because of that, the body's physical abilities increase, but he couldn't help but be surprised by the steep increase in his physical abilities.

'If it's like this, solo play is possible!'

Soloing a dungeon wasn't a problem, now that he didn't need to act weak all the time. He had gained strength, so now he could show his fangs.

"Now no one can look down on me."

He hurried home and threw himself onto his bed. The first thing he saw when he woke up was the worn out sword.

'Did I bring this with me?'

There had been no time to properly access the situation before because he had been invaded continuously by unfamiliar memories. Sung Joon held and observed the sword that he had randomly put in the corner before.

The word 'Roel' was inscribed on the sword. Besides that, there was nothing special about the sword.

'For now, I'll take the sword with me.'

He planned to go to the Dungeon Bureau to apply for Matching. His sudden increase in strength had to be because of Roel.

"Oi, Legend."

The Legend was Sung Joon's humiliating nickname, due to his horrible Healing Power.  When he heard that nickname, he had an idea of who it might be. He turned his head and what a surprise, it was a face was familiar with.

"Mr. Kang Ho Young?"

"Yeah, it's me. We have something to talk about."

Ho Young was a C-Rank Combat Hunter who was close to Deok Soo. He was suspicious about Deok Soo's death and came to find Sung Joon.

"I don't have anything to say, though."

Sung Joon showed his hidden fangs. They were extremely sharp fangs. If it was the past, he would've acted servile and weak, but now that he had awakened his past life, he wouldn't be merciful.

"Ha, the pathetic Legend survived all by himself, so you lost all your fear?"

Ho Young tapped Sung Joon's cheek lightly. It didn't hurt but it felt really bad. Ho Young was known for being a troublemaker on Hunter.com as well.

He knew just how to scratch at and trample on someone's pride. However, he had picked the wrong opponent that day.

"Stop."

It was only one word, but the meaning was clear. He had taken off his weak facade and  revealed his hidden fangs.

"Did you just tell me to stop? So, the sole survivor, the Legend has finally lost it."

Ho Young couldn't believe it. He had always seen the weak and servile Sung Joon. He didn't think that he would reveal his fangs.

'What, what's with that gaze.'

His icy stare seemed like it was a violent storm.

This was killing intent.

'A mere H-Healer Hunter?"

Ho Young became intensely anxious. He was taken aback but if he retreated here, he would become a coward that was afraid of the Legend. In no time, there was a large crowd of spectators.

Ho Young made an irrational decision.

"Don't look me in the eye!"

In an instant, Sung Joon's head turned. He was slapped by Ho Young.

'I can't fully control my body properly. I'll have to remember that.' he thought.

Sung Joon smiled lightly. He saw through Ho Young's movements perfectly, but he couldn't replicate the movement he had shown against the Living Armors.

'There's still too much I don't know.'

Sung Joon stroked his burning cheek and glared at Ho Young. Though he had been slapped, there was no change in his emotions. Was it because of his promise to pay him back? He was surprisingly calm.

"You bastard. Don't look me in the eye!"

"That won't work twice."

Ho Young moved his hand to slap Sung Joon, but the moment he raised his hand, Sung Joon looked at him with cold eyes and gripped his arm.

"Apologize."

Killing intent flowed out of his stare. Ho Young felt a chill in his spine, as if an invisible sword was poised at his throat.

"What's that?"

"Isn't that the Legend?"

Sung Joon was famous in the district as well as on Hunter.com for being the Legend, cursed with low Healing Power.

"He isn't actually afraid of the Legend, is he?"

"He looks like a Combat Hunter… but he's just a coward."

"Let's take a picture and upload it to Hunter.com."

There were whispers from behind. Ho Young gritted his teeth, emitted a terrifying killing intent and looked away.

'There's no way the Legend is releasing this much killing intent.  I misunderstood because I'm tired', he thought and the corners of his mouth raised and he scoffed at him.

"And if I don't want to?"

He spoke sarcastically. At that moment, Sung Joon put strength into his grip.

A horrible sound accompanied the breaking of his wrist. Simply by putting a bit of strength in his hand, he had broken Ho Young's wrist.

"Guah!"

Ho Young struggled but Sung Joon didn't let him go. He had no intention of ever letting go.

"Let, let me go! You bastard! Guh!"

"I'll let you go if you apologize."

"Cut the crap!"

"You want me to shatter your bones?"

"Guah!"

Sung Joon squeezed hard and Ho Young felt more pain. Ho Young's wrist shattered. He couldn't stand the pain and started urinating.

His pants became wet and urine collected on the floor. Seeing that, the crowd took one step back.

"I'm, I'm sorry! I was wrong! Please!"

Sung Joon let him go after he apologized. Ho Young's left arm dangled and he grabbed it and backed off.

- Hunter Number 129

"Be careful from now on."

The mechanical sound called Sung Joon's queue number. Sung Joon turned around from Ho Young and spoke.

"Who is that guy that pissed his pants because of the Legend?"

"After checking on Hunter.com, it's the C-Rank Hunter, Kang Ho Young."

"He acted all tough but the Legend made him like this?"

"You've been a troublemaker for the longest time. Serves you right."

"I should upload this to Hunter.com."

The spectators mocked Ho Young. As the voices weren't quiet, Ho Young could hear them all. He bit his lip so hard that blood started to drip.

'At this rate, my life as a Hunter is over!' Ho Young thought.

If word got out about the incident at the hands of  the Healer with the lowest Healing Power, the Legend, there would be no way he would be accepted into a regular Dungeon  attack team and his life would then be over.

'This is a fluke! If I attack from behind, I can at least get an arm. That's right. Let's get an arm.' Ho Young thought dangerously.

He drew his sword with his healthy right hand and headed towards Sung Joon. His left arm was crushed but like a true C-Rank hunter, his movements were swift.

"Ah?"

Ho Young let out in a flustered voice.

"He, he evaded it?"

His body had dodged Ho Young's single blow.

"I'll, I'll call the Sheriff!"

In between the onlookers, there was a clerk that understood the gravity of the situation and raised her radio. Looking at the woman, Sung Joon calmly opened his mouth.

"That's not necessary."

He stared at Ho Young. His cold eyes met with Ho Young's and Ho Young felt a chill in his spine. Now, an incomparable amount of terrifying killing intent suffocated him.

"From now on, this is self-defense."

He drew the worn out blade, Roel, from his waist.
