Chapter 20: Kung Pao Chicken (Part 2)

Welcome back to prosperous food com.

This is an early release of this chapter

Enjoy.

Shiyu had a motive for doing this. She wants to leave and needs someone who can take over the restaurant in her place. Shiyu had wanted Xiao Wu to take over the restaurant in her place, but Xiao Wu is still too young and needs more time. Therefore, she had no choice but to choose a chef from among them.

As long as they can master the cooking skills and take up her challenge, she does not care who they are. The most important point is that they should manage the restaurant until Xiao Wu's cooking skills had risen.

As soon as Shiyu announced this, the chefs were surprised.

Why? This is not because of the 100 taels of silver. Rather, it is because of the recipe. For a tasty dish like this, most of the chefs will not hand over the recipe so easily. But Shiyu just handed over the recipe just like that….

Is she mentally retarded?

Shiyu had never considered hogging the knowledge. To her, this is a common recipe, and everyone can learn. The only problem is who learn it the best.

"You are not happy with this decision?"

"Of course we are happy!" The chefs replied in unison.

"Then today, we will open for business. You will be in charge of your own speciality dishes. As for this dish of Kung Pao Chicken, you can practice on your own after work! All right, Lao Er, note down all the dishes that they can cook and who cook what. Then we will add 50% more to the price that they usually charge for this dish."

"As for our speciality dish, oh, 1 tael of silver for 1 plate!"

"……." 1 tael of silver per plate?

Everyone sucked in a deep breath.

At this price, will the customers still want to eat it?

"The food I cook is worth this price."

Frankly, Shiyu wanted to slack off. If the price is too cheap, there will be a lot of orders, and she will be dead tired. "And each day, this dish is limited to 100 plates.

After everything had been settled, it is time to open the restaurant for business. The firecrackers were lit and there was an opening ceremony, and the guests flood into the restaurant.

Lao Er had already written down the name of the dish and the price of each dish on wooden boards that he hung on the wall. In this way, the menu and price are clear for all to see.

"So expensive?" Many of the customers saw the price and immediately grumbled.

Luckily some of the people are quite rich and have business dealing with the Lin family Clan, and were invited here. But when they saw the prices, they could not help grumbling in their hearts, thinking that the Lin Family Clan had fleeced them.

Lin Fan and his father, Lin Zhan, were there, and seemed to guess the feelings of their guests. They immediately gathered these rich guests and informed them, "Today is our grand opening. Other than the speciality dish, the rest of the dishes are free."

This promotional tactic is proposed by Shiyu.

"Why is the speciality not free as well?" Someone asked.

Lin Zhan replied, "Because there is a limit of 100 dishes a day. Once we have sold out, there is no more."

Everyone heard this and was surprised. After all, there is no relationship between the limitation of the dish and the price of the dish.

But everyone gives Lin Zhan some face and did not ask any further. Rather, they were curious about this speciality dish.

They thought that since the other dishes are free, they should give the speciality dish a try. They would gain rather than make a loss.

Hence, they placed their order.

There is a separate kitchen for the frying of the smelly tofu. This is to avoid contamination with other dishes.

From the kitchen, several dishes were quickly served to the waiting customers. The delectable scent of the dishes made all customers relaxed as they dined happily.

This situation last until the first plate of Kung Pao Chicken was served.

Once this speciality dish is served, it immediately attracted everyone's attention. For everybody wants to know if this dish is worth one tael of silver.

They quickly got the answer they seek just by watching the look of pure bliss on the face of the first guest that tried this dish.

"Oh! It is spicy! It is delicious! 5 more plates, please!" That guy had just finished one mouthful, and immediately yelled to order 5 more portions. He was scared that if he orders later, there would not be any left.

The guests who heard his shout were surprised, and their eyes looked as if they are on fire as they stare at the dish of Kung Pao Chicken…..

Shiyu continuously cooked in the kitchen. How long had it been since she handled the kitchen in this way? Even the buns are not as tiring as cooking the Kung Pao chicken. Her energy was drained bit by bit, and later, she needs to rest for a while before she can continue to cook.

Finally, she finished cooking 100 plates of Kung Pao Chicken. Then she felt that she had no more energy to do anything and just slumped on a chair as she rested and recover. Shiyu felt that she could not even lift a pair of chopsticks.

"So tiring!" But it is also satisfying. For she has regained the feeling of working in a busy kitchen. She needs to quickly increase her stamina, or she could not keep this up.

"Elder sister!" Lao Er rushed in, "There are many guests outside clamouring to order the Kung Pao chicken. This is the opening day, should we…." Seeing the tired and exhausted look of Shiyu, Lao Er shut up.

The chef nearby also came over and advised, "Let her rest. She is too young, and could not stand the workload. If she is overworked, then it will be a bigger loss for the restaurant."

"En En, I am at fault. I will go back and inform the guests." Lao Er rushed outside again.

Seeing how Lao Er comes and goes like the wind, she shook her head. Since she had completed her task for today, she decided to observe the other chefs. Their prices are quite expensive, therefore, the cooking skills of the chef should be top notch.

The typical cooking method is to add a bit of oil, then stir-fry the ingredient, then add salt and seasoning, and serve it.

Shiyu would occasionally guide them on ways to improve their cooking. For example, the pork can be salted and lighted coated with flour first - this will make the pork more tender and crispy. To ensure that fish is not crushed, it can be fried etc.

The first day quickly passed. With the signature dishes of smelly tofu and Kung Pao Chicken, the restaurant becomes quite famous.

That night, after the restaurant had closed, Shiyu invited all the chefs to the kitchen.

"Today is our grand opening special. Everyone was very busy and tired. Tonight, we will serve ourselves! Everyone please eat and drink to your fill."

After they had dined, Shiyu asked Lao Er to bring out a list of tally for the day, "Today, we have calculated the dishes that customers had ordered for the day. We had also tallied it by the chef. I am going to announce the result now."

Then  Lao Er begins to read out the tally.

"Chef Li Liang, 131 portions of stewed white cabbage, 93 portions of stirred fried peas."

"Chef Wang Shouming, 301 portions stewed radish with meat."

"Chef Zhao Ming, 280 portions of spicy stirred fried pork."

As soon as Lao Er announced this, the chefs immediately sit up straight and paid attention….
