Chapter 69         A Yellow-furred Demon

Xiao Ma experienced a nasty shock. Quickly, he turned off the pump and ran toward the hose. The hose had sucked Ye Shaoyang one and half meters in; only his feet remained visible. Xiao Ma hurriedly asked, “Little Ye, are you okay?”

Although the incident had shocked him speechless, Ye Shaoyang stayed unhurt. After that little upset, Ye Shaoyang regained his wits and shouted, “Hurry, pull me out!”

Xiao Ma and Old Guo each grabbed one of Ye Shaoyang’s legs and started to pull him out. Old Guo turned to Xiao Ma and laughed, “Luckily, you reacted fast. If not, we would need to search for him in the sewage; I connected the other end of the pipe there.”

At the same time, Ye Shaoyang also tried to push himself out. Suddenly, he smelled something putrid. He carefully looked around and noticed a pair of green dots that blinked in the deeper parts of the hose, about half a meter away from him. He became stunned, as he suddenly realized what these dots were. The monster’s eyes! These blinking green dots must be its eyes!

The water pump sucked the monster in, no wonder it broke down!

The inside of the pump was completely dark. Ye Shaoyang could only see the monster’s eyes, but he could not distinguish its appearance. He could only hear the monster pant heavily. Abruptly, he felt anxious. If he was outside, he would not even fear an undead king. But he was inside a narrow pipe now. He could not even stretch out his arms. It could be really difficult if the monster attacked him now. Goddammit. Xiao Ma and Old Guo were blissfully unaware of the situation. They pulled him out slowly, as they continued to chit-chat. Ye Shaoyang thought of asking them to pull faster, but he was afraid he would alarm the monster once he shouted. His anxiety made sweat cover his face. It moved! Suddenly, the monster inched forward.

What the hell! Ye Shaoyang scolded in his heart. If he died in such a place, he would die with tons of regrets. He quietly sliced his right middle finger and used his blood to draw a Thunder Curse on his left palm. Suddenly, the monster pounced toward Ye Shaoyang just as he finished drawing the curse. Ye Shaoyang extended his left arm with difficulty and smacked the monster. His palm numbed; he felt as though something sharp had stung him. Luckily, the curse worked, and it shoved the monster far away.

“Faster, faster! There is a monster inside here. Quickly, pull me out of here!” Ye Shaoyang let loose a high-pitched scream.

This gave Xiao Ma and Old Guo a shock. In response, they pulled Ye Shaoyang out with their full strength. Immediately, a black object darted out from the pipe and jumped into the pond.

“What's that thing?” Old Guo started.

Ye Shaoyang gasped heavily. Then, he walked to the pipe and wiped off some of the residual sticky fluid left inside. He rubbed it between his fingers and took a sniff. He had a very worried expression, as he said, “This is not an undead, nor is it a drowned undead.”

Old Guo said, “Is it a demon?”

“I don’t know, but I have never smelled this before….” Ye Shaoyang looked at the pond of blood and thought, No wonder Rui Lengyu’s father didn’t dare to go down. Even I have never encountered such a thing; this is not going to be easy.

Old Guo stared with wide-open eyes. He felt stunned, “Even you haven’t seen this before? What can this be?”

After this experience, Ye Shaoyang knew that draining the blood would not work. He thought for some time; then, he turned around and asked Old Guo, “Do you have quicklime?”

Old Guo paused, “I don’t have it. We usually don’t use it, as it is quite heavy. I can get it for you if you need it now.”

At this moment, Liu Ming interjected from outside, “Are you talking about normal quicklime?” When he saw Ye Shaoyang nod, he continued, “We have a lot of quicklime, as we are puttying the classrooms. I can get it for you if you need it now.”

“Great. I need around twenty-five kilograms.”

Liu Ming brought two policemen with him to fetch the quicklime.

Xiao Ma thought out loud, “Little Ye, I’ve never seen you use quicklime before. Why do you need it this time?”

“Quicklime is useless against spirits and has minimal effect on the undead. But demons are afraid of quicklime the most.”

“Demons?” Xiao Ma scratched his head, “Are demons the same things as the pig monster or that tree monster? Or have we never dealt with demons before? Are demons stronger than spirits and undead?

“Demons are more difficult to deal with, as they are more intelligent than an undead, and they also move faster. Worse of all, they have varying attacks,” Ye Shaoyang replied in a deep voice.

After ten minutes, Liu Ming and the two policemen came back with a bag of quicklime in a woven bag. Ye Shaoyang stopped them from entering and also instructed Xiao Ma to stay outside. Ye Shaoyang and Old Guo carried the bag to the pond side and poured the whole bag of quicklime into the pond.

Immediately, the pond boiled up and white smoke rose from it.

Ye Shaoyang pulled out his date wood sword and stood before the pond. He waited patiently. From behind him, Xiao Ma asked in an astonished voice, “Little Ye, why don't you use the Qixing Dragon Sword? Isn't it much stronger than this?”

Ye Shaoyang glanced at Xiao Ma, “A great sword will never simply unsheathe; it stores energy in normal times. This allows it to unleash its maximum power at critical junctures. You’d better stay where you are and stop asking nonsensical questions.”

Not even five minutes had passed before the corner of the pond continuously bubbled. Ye Shaoyang took a deep breath and said to Old Guo, “Be ready, it is coming up.”

As soon as these words left Ye Shaoyang’s mouth, a black object leaped out and landed beside the pond. The sight of a gaunt, short, yellow-furred, monkey-like monster shocked everyone. The monster was almost the size of a teenager. It had long, skinny arms, but it only had four fingers on each of its hands. A web connected the fingers like a duck’s feet. It had a red, bald face, while glowing green eyes protruded from its sockets like a dead fish’s. The scariest thing about the monster was its crocodile-like maw. Its upper and lower rows of canines crisscrossed each other and were visible from the outside. The monster continuously drooled a sticky, greyish-black secretion.

The monster hopped and shook its body after it exited the pond, as it tried to remove the quicklime on its body.

“Oh my goodness, what is this monster!” Xie Yuqing softly exclaimed. The others had just recovered from their shock. Although all of them stood outside, they still backed off a few steps involuntarily; they felt terrified. Ye Shaoyang held the same sentiments as Xie Yuqing. The monster looked like a demon, but he had never seen this kind of demon before. He quickly recalled the records of Maoshan Sect. However, it seemed like none of those books mentioned this demon.

Ah, who cares. It is a demon. Just finish it off quickly!

Ye Shaoyang quietly recited an incantation and activated the cinnabar ink and red lines. In a split second, the lines emitted countless beams of red rays. They formed a net in the air that dropped toward the yellow-furred demon. The demon had fast reactions; it could sense the danger. It suddenly sprung up and collided with the net. Surprisingly, it broke a dozen or more red threads, but it was thrown back to the ground too. Its feet stepped onto the glutinous rice that they had sprinkled over the edge of the pond beforehand. Immediately, its feet emitted a black smoke. They could hear the persistent sizzling sound and the smell of burned rotten flesh permeate through every corner of this small space.

The net fell from the sky and wrapped the demon. Ye Shaoyang clasped his hands and formed a seal. He continually changed the seals to tighten the net, until it cut into the demon's skin. Black blood oozed out non-stop and released a nauseous smell.

“In accordance to the imperial decree of Sanqing, bestow upon me the power of Hellfire! Annihilate!”

Ye Shaoyang waved his hand and threw a Hellfire Talisman Paper beside the demon's feet. The talisman ignited the realgar wine and the rice wine, which created a fire that vigorously burned the demon's body. The demon struggled for its life, but it failed. Its crocodile-like mouth opened wide, and it unleashed a terrifying roar.
