Chapter 27          Bone Scraping

Then, Old Guo continued, “After that, the building was completely sealed up and nothing happened. But in the 90s, the School of Foreign Languages was built. The principal of the school was a foreigner that didn’t believe in ghosts. So, he bought the haunted hospital and turned it into a dormitory. The building was in the fourth position, so it was named dormitory four.”

“After that, a few students would jump off from room 404 every year. Pressure began to mount. Eventually, the school was forced to close down the dorm and seal it off. Since then, no one has died.”

Ye Shaoyang nodded and said, “That means the seal is still in effect and those angry spirits are unable to leave that building.”

Then, Xiao Ma interrupted, “Except for Chen Lin, her death made the school a bit nervous. But after that, no more deaths occurred.”

Xiao Ma’s words reminded Ye Shaoyang of the specter. Since the specter was close with Chen Lin, did he cause her death? And how was her death related to dormitory four? Ye Shaoyang shook his head in despair. When did spirit hunting become so difficult? It was almost like a criminal investigation.

“Oh yeah brother Guo. If this building has been haunted for such a long time, my senior Dao Feng should have known about it when he came to Stone City. Wasn’t he able to deal with it?”

“Well, at least, he wasn’t sure if he could do it alone. Originally, he wanted to find a helper to deal with it. But then, he had to go to Sichuan,” Old Guo laughed sillily and said, “As for sorcerers like us, we don’t even dare to go near that place.”

Ye Shaoyang took off his belt and started to check if he had enough supplies. His belt was handmade and very wide. It was almost as wide as a champion gold belt. The belt has many pouches that housed various equipment and items. Ye Shaoyang had worked a lot recently, so he had almost depleted many of his items. So, he opened Old Guo’s bag and took out some frequently used items and accordingly placed them into his belt.

“What an awesome belt you have,” Xiao Ma looked on with amazement.

Ye Shaoyang proudly answered, “I’ve worn this belt for almost ten years. I know where all the equipment is and where all the items are placed.”

Suddenly, Xiao Ma realized something and said, “No wonder you’re always pulling things out like a magician when you fight spirits.”

It was already eleven at night, so the main gate of the school was closed. Xiao Ma knew about a place where they could enter, so he directed Old Guo. After they drove a bit, they arrived at a low part of the wall. The three of them climbed over it and arrived at a grassy field. A white building stood in the distance; it seemed very ominous. Xiao Ma explained, “This is dormitory four, and this whole area used to be part of the school. Nowadays, no one comes here.”

It was a European-style five-storey building. The building was quite long—at least 30 meters. The greyish white paint on the building was old, and some of it was peeling off. Even though the paint was old, the structure seemed sturdy.

Up above the building hung a thick cloud of energy—it was Yin Qi!

Only sorcerers that had opened their Divine Eye could see Yin Qi.

“This place really has a spirit nest … ” Ye Shaoyang mumbled. The entrance to the building was chained up tightly. Someone had even stuck a yellow talisman paper onto the door, which was definitely useless against the spirits inside.

“Little Ye, there is a ladder over there. I bet they used it to go up!”

Ye Shaoyang looked in the direction that Xiao Ma pointed in and saw a wooden ladder propped up to reach a window on the second floor. Abruptly, cries and screams rang out from the building. Ye Shaoyang quickly jumped onto the ladder. As he climbed up, he turned back and told the two of them, “It’s too dangerous in there, so you two just stay and wait!”

Xiao Ma and Old Guo happily obliged, as they were already aware of the occurrences inside dormitory four. They knew that if they went in, they probably would not make it out. Before Ye Shaoyang entered, Xiao Ma shouted, “Little Ye, you be careful, okay? Don’t die in the process!”

Without even turning back, Ye Shaoyang gave Xiao Ma the middle finger.

After Ye Shaoyang entered the window, he arrived in a dark room. Ye Shaoyang was alone, so he did not want to use one of his hands to hold a candle. Instead, he took out two fluorescent bracelets, one for each of his wrists. Even though the light was not very strong, it was enough for navigation. After the fluorescent lights began to glow, he found himself in an empty dorm room. Old bunk beds were on both sides of the room, and a thick layer of dust covered the beds.

Ye Shaoyang walked out of the room. Then, he heard some horrible screams and cries from the darkness. He swiftly pulled out his peach wood sword and headed in the direction of the screams. As he ran up the stairs, the screams grew louder and louder. When he arrived at the fourth floor, he saw a black shadow coming toward him.

“Li Duo, it’s me!” Ye Shaoyang recognized him and yelled.

“Ye Shanyang, you’re here!” Li Duo grabbed Ye Shaoyang’s hands, like a drowning man who had grasped onto a floating device. Then, Li Duo told Ye Shaoyang in a trembling voice, “Please help the girls; they are trapped inside room 404!”

The two quickly ran to room 404. When they arrived, screams and cries permeated the air. Something had closed the door, and they could hear weird giggles. Blood slowly flowed out from underneath the door.  Ye Shaoyang was in a rush, so he tried to open the door. However, it would not budge. Li Duo said, “I’ve tried to open the door. I’ve even tried kicking it.”

Then, Ye Shaoyang sensed a hint of spirit Qi on the door. This energy formed a boundary within the room. He hurriedly took out some cinnabar ink and drew Yin and Yang fishes on his right palm. Then, he slammed the door hard. With a loud bang, the door burst open to reveal an unnerving scene.

Three girls were sitting in the corner of the room. One was crying, one was screaming, and the other had already fainted.

In the opposite corner, one girl faced the three other girls. This girl’s hair was long and black; she sat straight and had a bunch of keys in her grasp. As if something possessed her, she used the keys in her hand to scrape the side of her face. The keys were not sharp, so they could not slice open her face. However, she had scratched at her own face for quite a while now with a substantial amount of force. She had already mutilated the skin and flesh on her face; chunks of flesh hung off her face.

The flesh was now gone, and she was scraping the keys directly against her cheekbones. The cracking and grating sounds gave everyone chills. However, the girl did not freak out at all, and she did not even seem to feel the pain. If that was not horrifying enough, she would let out an unsettling giggle each time she dragged the keys across her face ….
