Chapter 269 The Demon Undead 2

Their investigations did not lead them to any family with their animals stolen, instead, they found something even more interesting:

A family lived behind the alley of Old Wan's house, consisting of only a mother and a son. The son's name was Liu Leping; he was in his forties, and he worked as an accountant in his company. Their neighbors called him Accountant Liu. He was an honest man of few words. He was a divorcee, and his ex-wife remarried to another person outside of the town. She brought with her their only son, and she had never returned ever since. So, Accountant Liu lived with his mother.

The mother, Granny Liu, was an old woman in her seventies. She was a healthy old woman who often participated in dancing. However, nobody had seen Granny Liu in the open since last year. Her son, Accountant Liu, was an introvert, so people rarely visited him at his house.

At first, the community suspected that Granny Liu had passed away. However, a few months ago, some people had visited their house for a survey, and they had seen Granny Liu still alive, albeit looking weak and unfriendly.

Then, a butcher in the street revealed that Accountant Liu had purchased chicken blood from him. Accountant Liu would come to collect chicken meat and blood from the butcher every day after work. Sometimes, he would buy pig and cow's blood. Everyone was wondering if Granny Liu had gotten some kind of illness that required her to drink blood as a remedy.

Ye Shaoyang could smell something fishy here. He asked the policeman, "I'm just curious. Our instructions were for you to check if there were any animals missing from the families around here. How did you get this information?"

The policeman smiled, "Let me continue the story. Mister Ye, you would understand the situation after the story is told. Ever since Granny Liu stopped coming out of her home, their neighbors' animals would go missing. Any animals, such as dogs, cats, or even chickens would go missing if they wandered into Accountant Liu's house. Whenever they confronted Accountant Liu, he would deny seeing those animals. However, the neighbors would discover the animals' carcasses around the alley.

"So, the neighbors had been secretly talking about this, and they suspected that Granny Liu had become an undead. We heard about this while we were investigating, and I believe this information is even more important than missing animals. So, I rushed here to report to you both."

Ye Shaoyang nodded, "This information is indeed more important. This Granny Liu is most likely the person… or demon undead that we are looking for."

Xie Yuqing asked, "What do we do now?"

"We'll go check it out, but after I finish these dumplings. They are too good to waste."

The policeman sat down, as he waited for Ye Shaoyang to finish his dinner. While waiting, he asked Ye Shaoyang, "Mister Ye, do you mind telling me my fortune? My name is Qi Chen."

Ye Shaoyang stared up at his face. This young man had a very good look on him. "Your temple is slightly higher than normal people, and your face shines with a light of intelligence. All of your facial features look good, so it's a face that brings fortune. You will be doing great."

"This…." Qi Chen scratched his head in disbelief, "Will I be that great? Mister Ye, are you sure you are not messing with me?"

Ye Shaoyang smiled without answering. He quickly finished the dumplings in his bowl, and they left the stall. By now, it was late at night. Qi Chen led the way, as they walked to the alley behind Old Wan's house. He finally stopped at the end of the alley, in front of a house, and Qi Chen turned to inform Ye Shaoyang in whisper, "This is Accountant Liu's house."

Ye Shaoyang looked around the house. It was a quiet area, and Accountant Liu's house was on the corner, making it appear even more lonely. Despite that, the house was surrounded by tall walls, topped with sharp glass pieces, and the front entrance was guarded by a solid metal door. Ye Shaoyang said upon seeing this, "It seems like Accountant Liu renovated this place very recently. Why do you think he did this?"

Xie Yuqing guessed, "To prevent people from breaking in?"

Ye Shaoyang nodded, "Perhaps he did not want anyone to come near Granny Liu. Come, let's go there."

The trio walked to the end of the alley and discussed their next course of action.

"Without a search warrant, they have the right to deny us entry into the house. We can try to come up with a smart excuse, but it would land us into trouble if they report us." Xie Yuqing said, "However, the more important thing is--- If Granny Liu is indeed a demon undead, will you kill her on the spot, Little Ye?"

"Of course! What else should I do, let you take her for an interrogation?"

"That is impossible…. Arresting a demon undead for an interrogation, who knows what will happen." Xie Yuqing paused to think, and she looked at Ye Shaoyang with a troubled face, "but the government will not officially recognize this kind of event. You know what I mean, right? Let's say you kill Granny Liu in front of her son, you will get charged with murder."

Ye Shaoyang said, "That's easy. Let's ambush her without letting Accountant Liu know about it. But before that, we need to make sure she is truly the demon undead. Otherwise, we would be in hot soup."

Suddenly, Qi Chen tapped Ye Shaoyang's shoulder, as he signaled toward the opposite side. Everyone turned in the direction he pointed. A middle-aged man was walking through the alley with a black plastic bag in his hand.

Ye Shaoyang rubbed his nose, "That is cow's blood. People wouldn't normally buy that. This guy must be Accountant Liu."

Xie Yuqing sneered, "What a son. He must be worried that his mom is bored of drinking chicken blood, so he bought her cow's blood today. Sadly, his mom has now tasted human blood."

Ye Shaoyang suggested, "Let's go around the back of the house. We'll find a spot to observe from there."

Xie Yuqing instructed Qi Chen to be their look-out, while she followed Ye Shaoyang, as they sneaked to the alley at the back of the house. However, they soon realized that there was no window at all behind the house. Xie Yuqing panicked, "What do we do now?"

"It's impossible." Ye Shaoyang said, " A demon undead would prefer a room with an opening to connect it to the outside world. Otherwise, it will not be able to gather the Yin Qi in the atmosphere. Since there is no window at the back of the house, there must be one at the front or the roof. I'll go up and find out."

Fortunately, it was late at night now, and there was nobody outside, so he did not need to worry about getting caught.

Ye Shaoyang climbed up the wall, and in the blink of an eye, he was already on the rooftop. He disappeared for a while and returned soon. He whispered at the end of the roof, "There is a window here. Come up and check it out."

He gave Xie Yuqing his hand and pulled her up to the rooftop. Then, he stuck a Qi Hiding Talisman Paper onto her and led her to the window. They looked down into the house from the window.

There were light bulbs in the house, but they were not switched on. Instead, a candle was lighted up in the middle of the house. Through the faint light, they observed the interior of the house: It was a house with simple decoration, with only a bed and a square table. An old woman covered in wrinkles was resting on the bed. She laid motionless, and she did not even blink.

From above, they could see half of the woman's face. Xie Yuqing observed her for a while longer before she whispered to Ye Shaoyang, "She looks normal to me. At this age, nobody would want to move their bodies much."

Instead of answering her, Ye Shaoyang took out an Eight Trigram Mirror from his waist and shone it downward. The faint light of the candle reflected the image of the woman's face. Xie Yuqing looked into the mirror. Her mouth opened wide in horror. She quickly covered her mouth to stop herself from screaming.
