Inner Residence arc ー Chapter 11 (Part 1): Three Months Fireworks

There was only one wound on Xie Zhaoying's body. It was at the side of his left waist, was three inches in length and was inflicted by a sword. The wound was cut without the slightest hesitation in one strike. He was lucky. If that sword had pierced deeper by two millimetres, it would have lacerated the arteries and veins. In that case, it would have been his turn to transmigrate.

His whole body was soaked in blood which was a ghastly sight. I was flustered as I tried stanching his blood. For a while, the flow of blood could not be stanched and it streamed out from between my fingers. My heart palpitated as if it was in a spasm as an intense panic engulfed my mind.

At that time, Xie Zhaoying was still a little conscious. He suddenly stretched out his hand to touch my face and said, "It's alright. Don’t cry, don’t cry."

I chided, "Lie down and behave yourself! Who's crying!"

After I finished speaking, I turned around to wipe my face.

By the time I had finished handling his wound, Xie Zhaoying was already unconscious.

He asked me who I was offering the moonlight to, but I instead wished that there was someone who could offer me some antibiotic right now.

Strangely, the periphery of his wound was extensively smeared with orange radiance as if it was stained with luminous powder. I threw the handkerchief stained with blood into the fire. The flame cried out as crackled as if fireworks were lit.

I remembered this phenomenon. I immediately looked for 'Qiu Yang's Notes' and turned to the chapter about the 'Canon of Poisons'. "An extraordinary person from Mountain Nanling* possesses a poison, named 'Three Months Fireworks'. It uses Orange day-lily1, Lily of the Valley2, Belladonna3, Heartbreak Grass…….Mixed with the dark dew, nit blood…… The poison is gradual for the time being. It lies dormant varyingly for half a year to three years. The first time the poison acts up, there will be a sparkling appearance. Soon after, vomiting of blood, low fever, whole body aches, lack of strength in the four limbs and amnesia will ensue. After the poison has acted up for three months, the victim energy will meet his demise like the lamp fading away when the oil is depleted. This poison can be suppressed and the method is…. For the thorough curing method, refer to 'Records of the Memory of Astronomy'……"

I was fuming mad that I cursed. Of all things, it just had to have no curing method only for this poison! For a content to be divided into two parts, it was simply like slotting advertisements in between news broadcast!

Thankfully this poison did not kill instantly so Xie Zhaoying won't lose his life for now. However, his pulse was shockingly quick. That old fogey Zhang had said that this was an initial symptom of poisoning and it could be alleviated with acupuncture. Although my acupuncture techniques were so crappy like a complete mess, if this went on, I was worried he would have some internal and cerebral haemorrhage. If that had been the case, I would have been powerless to turn things around and save him. Hence, I could only brace myself as I head for the battlefield.

Xie Zhaoying's body had numerous old scars. Some were wounds from sharp weapons while some were wounds from arrows. Furthermore, they looked as if they were from ages ago as many were left with a little bit of pale white. Only on his shoulders was a long wound caused by a sword that ran across the sphenoid. Although it had long healed, the skin was still entangled even up until now and was a ghastly sight.

I was extremely shocked but I didn’t have the time to think too much. I hastenly moved to perform acupuncture on him based on what was written in the medical book, I moved to insert the needle. Those acupuncture points were very odd and there were many which I had never heard of before. My hands were soaked with sweat and were shaking nonstop as the fingers held the needle, afraid that I would insert the needles wrongly and directly send him off to enter heaven.

Yunxiang called out to me once in concern, "Miss, are you alright?"

I inhaled one deep breath. Calm down! Calm down! It's not like I had no clinical practice.

After finishing inserting all the needles, my layer of clothes were soaked in sweat. I felt his pulse again. It seemed like it had become much more stable. I heaved a sigh of relief. I thought in my heart, 'Oh child, may God bless you!'

Xie Zhaoying had lost quite an excessive amount of blood. Since I was limited by the circumstances and was unable to give him a blood transfusion, I could only blend brown sugar water and feed him bit by bit. Then, I forced him to drink the extremely precious 'All Nourishing Decoction' that had been brewed which enriches the blood and calms the vital energy. He still knew how to swallow so the problem wasn't too severe.

I still couldn’t sleep and kept vigil beside his bed. My clinical experience was little and I had never come across this type of poison. I was worried that there might be more changes and also afraid that his wound would get infected and cause a fever.

Xie Zhaoying seemed to be talking in his sleep. I got closer and heard him muttering, "……Hua..…."

I furiously said, "If you don’t want Elder Sister Fei Hua to be worried, then you be more well-behaved in the future."

Xie Zhaoying mumbled again. I listened again. "……Eight Treasure Duck*..…."

*T/n: The duck is stuffed with various ingredients

A blob of cold sweat.

As expected, when it was halfway through the night, Xie Zhaoying started to burn up.
