Chapter 22 Hospital
The hospital corridors were always busy. Although there was no shouting or laughter, the endless flow of patients, family members, doctors, nurses and other people brought a hubbub of noise to the hospital.
Zhou Qingfeng calmly followed a black nurse as he tried to leave the hospital. The nurse was pushing a wheelchair and she seemed to have no destination in mind. However, her large, sturdy body blocked the whole corridor, thus hindering Zhou Qingfeng from walking past her.
As Zhou Qingfeng reached the exit of the hospital, he heard Lena Fox’s voice call him from his back, trying to tell him that he was heading in the wrong direction. However, Zhou Qingfeng pretended that he heard nothing as he picked up his pace, trying to overtake the nurse by side-walking.
At that moment, something unexpected happened.
Seven to eight robust and burly guys burst out from the corridor. Both parties quickly identified each other as Lena Fox promptly screamed. Zhou Qingfeng could clearly recognize one of the guys because he had fought with him before in a crossfire.
Both parties were unable to hide themselves, faced this sudden encounter, but the kidnappers had the advantage. As Zhou Qingfeng saw the kidnappers pulling out their rifles, he knew that he would not be able to confront them directly.
There was As Quick as Lightning, but even with that no one can confront continuous fire from seven to eight rifles. However, Zhou Qingfeng’s ability not only allowed him to always get the first attack move, but also always get the first escape move.
As his opponents aimed at him, he instantly pulled his head back, then heard the explosion from the gunshots. It turned out that the large, sturdy nurse in front of him was shot as she trembled. Her blood gushed all over the place.
Ah...! All the people in the corridor screamed after hearing the gunshots. Everyone was running in horror like a bunch of headless chickens. Zhou Qingfeng soon saw the corpse of the nurse falling down. He quickly grabbed her neck and used her corpse as a meat-shield.
Sounds of gunfire slammed into his ears, and the corpse of the nurse shuddered involuntarily after getting shot. Luckily, the nurse was fat and strong, and the bullets did not penetrate through her body as it weighed at least a hundred and sixty kilograms. Her blood stained the floor of the hospital.
Ah…. Lena Fox was still standing outside the emergency room. She covered her mouth and screamed after she saw the scene. Her bodyguard, Raj, then prompted her, “Miss Fox, we need to leave this place immediately.”
“How about Officer Hugo?” Lena Fox was dragged by her bodyguard as they left the emergency room. She shouted while running, “Shouldn’t we be helping him?”
“We can’t help him.” Bodyguard Raj shielded Lena Fox as they ran for more than ten meters before they found a fire escape. He then continued, “Officer Hugo is just doing his job. Perhaps we should believe in his ability?”
Believe in his ability? You mean his bad shooting skills? Even Lena Fox knew that Zhou Qingfeng sucked at shooting. He did not even look like a trained cop.
Zhou Qingfeng was exhausted after he dragged the human flesh body armor which weighed over a hundred kilograms. As he judged that the kidnappers were all simply unscrupulous, he pulled out a Glock pistol from his holster. He peeked from the corpse’s shoulder and pulled the trigger continuously.
Zhou Qingfeng’s counterattack had forced his opponents to stay back. He then took the opportunity to retreat. At that moment, a elevator behind him opened as a doctor walked out from it.
“Go back in, a mass shooting is happening right now!” Zhou Qingfeng yelled as he rushed into the elevator. He then incessantly pressed the button to close the elevator door. Right as the elevator door closed, the kidnappers' bullets came, threatening to break the door frames.
The elevator started to go up afterward. A few kidnappers even tried to rush into the elevator as they spared no effort in hitting the door that ended up pockmarked with bullet holes.
The leader of the kidnappers with furrowed brows and blazing eyes was holding an assault rifle. He appeared from behind and saw the elevator sign, which indicated that the elevator cab was heading to the lower ground floor. With a deep voice, he then said, “Don’t worry. The whole hospital is now under our control. We’ll get that little chick, as well as that damn officer.
“John, bring some men to the underground parking lot and kill the officer. Bob, block the entrance of the hospital with all those hostages and tell this to the police outside of the hospital: ‘If they dare to come one step closer, we’ll kill the hostages.’ All the rest, come with me. Our Miss Fox will be waiting for us.”
The hospital emergency room was now littered with corpses. The patients and hospital staff were either hiding somewhere, or huddling up on the floor. A few of the kidnappers kicked these hostages so that they will follow their orders to gather up at the entrance to the hospital.
At that moment, Zhou Qingfeng was panting inside the elevator. The doctor raised his hand as he looked at him with horror and asked, “What’s happening?”
“A group of people broke into the hospital to kidnap Lena Fox. They’ve already killed several people,” replied Zhou Qingfeng. “We must now find a way to escape, or else we’re dead.”
“Miss Fox? The one with fifty billion dollars worth of property?” asked the doctor. He then pointed at Zhou Qingfeng’s wireless walkie-talkie. “Police officer, have you requested for backup?”
“I’m not a f*cking…. Alright! I’ve requested for backup, the New York reinforcement team will be arriving soon. Don’t worry, you’ll be saved. But still, if possible, we'd better escape by ourselves before it’s too late.”
The elevator door opened. Zhou Qingfeng scanned the environment, his gun aimed in front of him. Afterwards, he brought the doctor along with him and jumped out from the elevator. The underground parking lot only had a few lights lit, making it seem quiet and deserted.
After asking for directions from the doctor, Zhou Qingfeng walked toward a new BMW. He smashed the car window and opened the car door.
The BMW’s alarm was triggered, and the doctor asked with shock in his voice, “This car belongs to our chairman. Don’t you think that you’re doing something illegal?”
“If you think I’ve crossed the line, you’re welcome to report me.” Zhou Qingfeng found a spare key in the car’s compartment. He first turned off the alarm, then pressed the activation key. The engine automatically started. “It’s easier to use a car now thanks to technological advancements.”
The doctor quickly stood up and blocked the car as he saw Zhou Qingfeng trying to leave. “Hey, where do you think you’re going? You’re from the police, and there’s a shooting currently happening in our hospital. You’re responsible for my safety.”
“I....” Zhou Qingfeng was speechless with rage after being mistaken for a police officer for the nth time. He can only shout loudly, “Alright then, get in. I’m running out of time.”
The doctor hastily opened the door and got into the car. Zhou Qingfeng then pressed the gas pedal. The BMW accelerated and rushed toward the exit of the parking lot.
Zhou Qingfeng was anxious; he wanted to leave this place immediately. However, just as the car neared the gate, with his sharp eyes he immediately saw the security guard lying on the floor, with blood splattered all over the booth.
“What the hell, get down!” Zhou Qingfeng shouted. Blast-like bullets flew out from the booth and hit the BMW.
