Chapter 50: Entering the Dungeon

Unlike the dungeon that exist in the Garcia Kingdom, the dungeon in response to the request from the princess is not a light-hearted place where anyone can enter. There’s staff room  full of soldiers of this country being caution of the surrounding, always patrolled by one people and one animal, it is also enclose in an iron fence so that the monsters can’t get out.

Apparently the soldiers aren’t just here to limit the visitors, they also work to buy time in case the monsters overflowed from the dungeon. I observed the surrounding while looking at the princess who had come with us talking with the soldiers managing the dungeon.

We came straight to the dungeon this time without sightseeing in the Empire’s capital first. After all, the adventurers on the prince’s faction had already went into the dungeon, so we from the princess’s faction who had a late start had no time to delay. The other side had the advantage as long as the other side is higher in rank, so the situation is considerably bad.

I could sense some hostile soldiers in the surrounding with the Map skill, but although I was sure we would be ambushed in the forest, there’s no reaction in particular.

Did the talk finished? The barricade before the dungeon is opened. That’s good. I guess even the prince’s faction won’t get away with blatantly blocking her from entering the dungeon. I guess not all of them are the allies of the prince’s faction if I think about it, as there should also be some in the princess’s faction and also the neutral members too.

“Well then, I’ll be going.” (Est)

“Although the situation is severe, I’m sure that you guys could pull it off. I’ll wait for the good news.” (Chronoire)

The princess had called out to us who were going to immediately enter inside. Princess…she looks pitiful even when she’s the princess. Chronoire said that and sent us off with a smile. The portable food and the map that the two knight guards prepared are packed in the tool bag, and thus we entered the dungeon.

“Oooh…” (Est)

“The impression it gives is fairly different from Garcia.” (Claire)

“There are many spirits too.” (Diabell)

“It’s not so stinky in here.” (Shallie)

When we enter and advanced for a while, our impression just came out of our mouth. Although at first i thought that the dungeon would be the same wet, smelly, moldy and dark, but this dungeon is a little bit different. It got maintained to some degree, with container for the bonfire were lined up on the wall at regular intervals. I guess it might be different in the old days.

As Amyl and Lelena had leave, the battle potential of our party had fallen considerably. Although I could expect Shallie to be the vanguard as she had grew up, it’s hard for the healing role to fall on just me alone. If somebody got injured while I was fighting with an enemy, worst case is I won’t be able to heal them. It is necessary to act more careful than before. The vanguard is Shallie and me, with the rear being Claire and Diabell. Although Amyl and Lelena is not here, but Shallie should be enough as the vanguard.

According to the map taken from the tool bag, the structure of this dungeon is a gradual downward slope straight towards the lower layer. There’s no stairs. There’s a thick road in the middle, with some small sideways paths branched off from there, from the map it looks just like a giant tree.

Although the dungeon master seems to be recorded that it will appear mostly at the tip of the tree, the location of the ring is unknown. Since the place it appeared seems to change every time, they can’t predict its location. We can do nothing but search thoroughly one by one.

The Will-o-wisp that Diabell summoned floats in front of us, acting as a substitute torch. Although we don’t really need a torch, having one is something that any adventurers is grateful for. Currently there’s no need for one as the place itself is pretty bright, not to mention holding one means one of your hand is full. If you cannot use one hand because of it, there’s no time to set up the shield in case of emergency, and it’s going to be difficult to hold the weapon. With that as demerit, most party would not consider it and just focus on the surrounding light.

Although there’s no reactions from the adventurers ahead of us, on the other hand the red luminous point indicating the enemies are approaching. The number is five. Since their movement speed is not that fast. We had enough time to prepare to intercept.

“There’s enemy reactions. Number is five. Diabell, please increase the light. I’ll go ahead with Shallie acting as the cover. Claire will start the attack once you see the enemy.” (Est)

“Understood, My Lord.” (Diabell)

“Okaay~” (Shallie)

“Understood, Master.” (Claire)

Diabell summoned more Will-o-Wisps and increase the surrounding light. The purpose is to avoid any surprise attacks from the dark. One of them entered my view, as I faintly saw the appearance of the enemy using the light. Although it resembled the Komodo Dragon from the previous world at first glance, unlike them its whole body is white. Also on its head there’s no eyes. It put out its tongue where the tip splits into two as it crawls around. Although I can’t feel the ferocity like the Komodo Dragon, it got an awfully weird appearance.
[T.N: In case you don’t know how Komodo Dragon looks like, imagine a gecko, the size of grown up man, brown in color, poison and tongue like a snake, razor teeth like a shark, tails like a crocodile. Oh and they don’t leave anything at all once they’re done eating. Neither the fur, nor the bones.]

Great White Lizard :Level 28

Its figure is totally strange like the deep-sea fish, but its level is also higher than the monster in the previous dungeon too. I’m also worried about poison. The Komodo Dragon should have a poison enough to kill the prey it bit. Although this fellow might not necessarily be the same, there’s no such thing as being to careful.

“Everyone! There might be some poison in their fangs. Take care not to get bitten!” (Est)

Once I confirm that all my companions nod, I strengthen the image and shoot my magic. Lets test the Ice Magic Level 2 that I just learned. The previous magic that I used to shoot lumps of sharp ice, now had been strengthened and changed into spear form. But I didn’t use it before since it might cause a snowstorm.

When I aim the magic towards the Great White Lizard who had entered the range, an intense snowstorm appeared before my eyes and went towards the lizard. The surrounding temperature falls rapidly, even we who is outside the range of the magic tremble with the cold. The lizards who got a direct hit from such magic are reptiles who seems to be weak to the cold, their movement speed had slowed greatly.

The lizards movement have clearly become slower. Aiming towards them who can barely move, Claire promptly pulls her bow and shoot all of them. With that as a signal Shallie and I unsheathed our swords and stabbed them. Although the lizards seemed to have tried to counter attack, our sword managed to be shoved inside their body first as their movement had become dull.

Diabell summoned a Gnome similar to a mole, as it torn up one of the lizards with its sharp claws. Claire managed to gives the finishing blow to the remaining lizards with her bow. And so the lizards were disappointingly exterminated.

As we have grown stronger too, we should be able to win easily if the enemy is only of this level. I guess it’s thanks to the Experience Value Up Level 3 that I newly acquired, all members level up even though the enemy is of the considerably lower level.

On this level up, Shallie is the only one that had level up 3 times at once. What kind of skill should I pick this time? Although I want to reduce the chance of something bad happening because of the low luck, I decided to raise the Stealth level this time. It is likely that I would be able to scout alone now.
Now then, let’s continue searching.
