Why would a group of ogres suddenly appear here?
Ye Qi frowned as he took stock of the extent of the damage around him and cast Strengthen Resistance and Mage's Armour on himself. This was not because the young Demon Hunter was too scared to jump directly into the fray but because the circumstances were simply too suspicious!
According to Ye Qi's knowledge, monsters like ogres despite having incomparable brute strength was simple in the mind. Furthermore, they had insatiable hunger, their hunting targets ranging from human beings to wildlife. Regarding the origin of ogres, there were many hypotheses; some said they were creation of evil spells, while others said they were descendants of an ancient flesh-eating demon…
However, there was a consensus among these hypotheses, ogres wouldn't make their lair near a crowded city like Summer Crinkle, especially considering the city was merely 2 kilometres away from the Demon Hunter headquarters!
"C+ Quest: Night Attack. Fend off all the attackers!"
The sudden trigger of a quest and its difficulty of C+ hinted at the young Demon Hunter the danger he was in…
"Attention! Get into formation around me!" Alice's loud order could be heard through the bustling crowd. In just a few short minutes, the fully armoured Cavalry Captain managed to wrangle enough troops around her. "Stay in formation! We have to distract the ogres from attacking the innocent!"
The knights calmed down from the panic following her appearance. The diligence of their usual practice showed through the seamless way they adapted to their captain's orders.
The firearms of the Cavalry proved to be a powerful deterrent. Even if ogre had stone-like skin, they had to respect the destructive power of these killing machines. However, pain would not make simple monsters like these ogres retreat; if anything, it would only incense them further. After taking some steps back, the ogres retaliated by swinging their maces at their attackers, demolishing everything in their way.
"Separate into small units of five! The training soldiers retreat for now! The active knights keep up the firepower!" Facing the group of stampeding ogres, Alice yelled out her orders while guiding one of the units away from the camp. Ye Qi found himself following her naturally.
"Our current weapons won’t be able to cause any real damage to these monsters! We need heavy artillery!" the Cavalry Captain commented as she glanced at the training soldiers, blacksmiths, and chefs who were scurrying away to safety as well as the group of smaller knights who were playing hide-and-seek with five ogres around the camp. She turned to Ye Qi and said, "I'll leave the knights under your command temporarily! Distract the ogres for as long as you can, while I take a group of people to grab the heavy artillery from storage!"
The knights were all assigned standard Uzi mini rifle, these were powerful enough to take down normal monsters, but they were like poking a toothpick at an ogre's tough skin. It was hardly possible for toothpicks to take down a human being much less an ogre! This didn’t even take into account the amazing regenerative power of the ogre.
"Wait! I can help you buy one minute!" Ye Qi blocked Alice and added, "Leave these five ogres to me for now! Take all of your knights and make use of this opening to grab as many heavy artillery as you can!"
Even though the young Demon Hunter was taught how to fight cooperatively at Tower of Arena, commanding a whole troop of knights was a different beast altogether! Furthermore, he had a better idea in mind—Copper Guardian!
As the Cavalry Captain looked on in shock, the bangle on Ye Qi's wrist started to glow. A human shape started to materialize among the glow. The sudden appearance of the Copper Guardian attracted the attention of everyone at the camp including the five ogres—the 15 feet tall Copper Guardian stood out among the crowd, even the 12 feet tall ogres were slightly smaller than this massive creature!
Ye Qi had the newly appeared Copper Guardian punched the face of the ogre nearest to him. The punch made the ogre falter. Instantly, the other four ogres turned to focus on the Copper Guardian. They probably saw his larger size as a kind of provocation.
A mace hit the Copper Guardian right on his back, however the Guardian took the hit like a champ. In retaliation, the Copper Guardian landed a hit on the head of the ogre who assaulted him, causing it to collapse to the floor.
The Copper Guardian and the group of ogres started fighting. There was no clear winner. The immensely powerful and indestructible Copper Guardian found a perfect sparring partner in the similarly physically impressive group of ogres.
Even though he was outnumbered, the Copper Guardian didn't seem to be at a disadvantage—at the end of the day, no matter how tough the ogres' skin was, they were still made of flesh and blood, whereas the Copper Guardian was made entirely of solid copper. The most damage the ogres could land on him was to make him slow down temporarily, but the ogres would scream in pain every time the Copper Guardian retaliated in kind.
"Go get the heavy artillery!"
Ye Qi hissed at the shocked group of knights as his right hand sought out Agni. This was because a strange fluctuation in the air was heading his way. Even though Ye Qi didn't see any visible threat around him, he could sense the presence of danger using his Blind Fighter Specialization.
As Agni left its sheath, a body that was split in two appeared on the campground following a shower of blood. The disbelief was frozen on his enemy's final visage.
Invisibility?
Ye Qi's mouth curved into a condescending smile watching the surprise on his dead opponent's face—for others, an invisible enemy might be a great challenge, but for him, it was an advantage. His enemy's over-reliance on invisibility meant that they had many openings which the young Demon Hunter could exploit.
"There are other enemies than the ogres!" Alice reminded her troop when she saw the dead body on the floor. She thought about returning to help Ye Qi, but Ye Qi waved her away. Sensing the many weird fluctuations around him, Ye Qi glanced at the Cavalry Captain that was heading towards the storage and his left hand opened into a sign.
