Chapter 17: Dinner

Looking at the farce right in front of him, Linze suddenly didn't know on what to say.
After shooing her mother away, Xu Yanyan returned back to entrance of the porch, and took out a pair of guest slippers from the cabinet standing aside.
「Big brother Linze, have a look if this pair of slippers fits you.」
Linze, upon seeing Xu Yanyan helping him to bring over a pair of slippers as well as bending down to place it in front of his legs, hastily took off his shoes.
Having Xu Yanyan to be in such servitude towards him, made Linze somehow very unaccustomed.
But after putting on the slippers, he felt that it was extremely fitting.
「This pair of slippers do fit me very well.」
Linze replied to Xu Yanyan.
「That's great.」
To see that Xu Yanyan was currently seated on the chair placed by the porch entrance, and had begun to take off her outdoor shoes.
「Yanyan, is it your mother who makes dinner at home? Aren't there any servants and whatnot helping out.」
After a moment of pondering, Linze opened up his mouth to ask about Xu Yanyan's house circumstances.
「Maids? We don't have such things at all in our house. My family starting from my grandpa have always been a core member of the proletariat belief, and thus wouldn't enjoy that sort of bourgeoisie stuff. If my grandpa was to know that our family employed servants, he would probably be insistent on flying over from【Emperor City】to give my father a scolding.」
The heck's a proletariat, and the heck's a bourgeoisie.
Linze completely wasn't able to understand what Xu Yanyan was speaking.
How did those two terms which would only appear in political studies have to do with being able to employ servants or not.
But Linze didn't develop any sort of notion onto pursuing the bottom of that matter.
「Is it. Looks like your grandpa must have been a very straightforward person.」
Linze nonchalantly said.
「Actually, many people said that too, and a lot of people are in great respect of him.」
As she spoke, Xu Yanyan finished changing her shoes, and after placing her and Linze's shoes together in the shoe cabinet, she brought Linze to the dining room of her home.
Xu Yanyan's dining room didn't possess those lavish decor as per his expectations, merely having a simple table and chairs arrangement.
However, although Linze somewhat had the feeling that those wooden chairs looked to be very ordinary, from the hue of the wooden material as well as its grain, they seemed to be made up of some extremely expensive wood.
Under the invitation of Xu Yanyan, Linze sat on the short side of the small-sized dining table.
Xu Yanyan after seeing Linze having taken his seat, went on to sit right by Linze's left.
The dishes were very quickly served by Xu Yanyan's mother; she seemingly only added an extra bowl and chopsticks for Linze, appearing to not having made any other additional dishes and whatnot.
The dishes on the table weren't much, no lobsters, sea cucumbers, abalones and so on, what's present were merely a couple of simple home cuisine.
Seeing those normal dishes, Linze suddenly felt his mood becoming slightly relieved.
After she had finished setting the food, Xu Yanyan's mother picked up the bowl laid in front of Linze.
「How much rice do you want me to help you scoop.」
Xu Yanyan mother asked Linze.
「A normal bowl will be fine.」
Linze replied.
「Understood.」
As she spoke, Xu Yanyan's mother helped Linze to scoop up a large bowl of rice.
「If it's a young lad, it's still better to be having this kind of portion.」
「Thanks for the trouble, auntie.」
Although Linze felt that the rice had been served a little too much, it's not that he wasn't able to finish those portions, and hence went on to give thanks towards Xu Yanyan's mother.
Hearing Linze calling her an auntie, the eyebrows of Xu Yanyan's mom gave off a twitch.
「.......Can I trouble you on saying your words again, I seemed to have not heard it clearly.」
Xu Yanyan's mother said to Linze.
Linze wasn't a fool, he naturally noticed onto the subtlety of the current situation.
Xu Yanyan's mother who originally appeared to be very gentle currently gave Linze a rather terrifying demeanor.
「Thank you very much for helping me to scoop my rice, Lord Big sister.」
Linze immediately shamelessly changed his tone, saying.
But Linze had in fact truly felt that Xu Yanyan's mom looked to be very young, as well as being extremely pretty.
Strangers who weren't aware about this absolutely wouldn't believe that she had such a big daughter as like Xu Yanyan. Her outer appearance seemed to be around 25, 26 years old, hence, was fitting of the namesake Big sister.
「Really, Linze, you've such a sweet mouth.」
Upon hearing Linze addressing herself as Big sister, Xu Yanyan's mother immediately had the dark clouds on her face being swept away, and handed the bowl held in her hands over to Linze.
Seemingly remembering about something, Xu Yanyan's mother added on saying to Linze.
「Oh right, Linze, next time just call me Big sister Xue.」
「Got it, Big sister Xue.」
Linze too immediately followed along saying.
On the dining table, Linze was being specially taken care of, as Xu Yanyan and her mother served plenty of food to him.
As Linze wasn't the kind who rejects onto those dishes, hence up till when Linze expressed that he really wasn't able to eat any more, Xu Yanyan and her mother then finally relinquished.
In between those moments, Linze wanted to ask for information from Xu Yanyan's mother, but after a few instances of intending to open up his mouth, it's evident that he hadn't found onto any appropriate opportunity.
But during those period of time, he had a great laugh chatting with the mother daughter pair of Xu Yanyan, with the dining atmosphere in all still being rather cheerful.
Amongst them Xu Yanyan's mother tried to ask Linze quite a couple of times about the glorious deeds he made during his 8th graderness period, but were all vaguely sidestepped by Linze.
For Linze really didn't want to recall onto those agonizing past anymore.
After finishing their dinner, though Xu Yanyan's mother wanted to have Linze stay up for the night, he naturally chose to decline that offer.
Next Xu Yanyan sent Linze to the entrance of the estate area, with Linze afterwards stopping Xu Yanyan there.
「It's fine to send me up to here. Go ahead on home, Yanyan.」
Linze told Xu Yanyan.
「Alright then. Speaking of which, thanks for today, Big brother Linze.」
Xu Yanyan said.
「Thanks for?」
Linze seemed to not understand.
「Of course it's to thank Big brother Linze for being so concerned about me.」
Upon hearing Xu Yanyan saying as such, Linze immediately understood the implied meaning behind Xu Yanyan's words. Looks like the conversation he had with the security manager earlier was being heard by Xu Yanyan.
To be frank, being thanked by Xu Yanyan somewhat made Linze a little guilty within his heart.
Without any intentions on making promises towards it, Linze waved his hands, bading Xu Yanyan farewell before turning around and leaving the area.

Big sister Xue = it's my first time doing a 'proper' translation of such honorifics + surname. Sounds hella weird to me but oh well!
