If Tang Xiaoyu called her, and she failed to answer it because her phone was on silent, she would really regret it.
“Madam, you should hurry and give Miss Qin Qitong a call, though she didn’t seem to be in a rush.”
Auntie Zhang smiled at Pei Ge, who then walked to a secluded corner of the room and made a call. Afterward, the old cook returned to the kitchen to prepare dinner.
“What did Qin Qitong say?”
Ji Ziming stood in the living room with his arms crossed as he watched Auntie Zhang run back from Pei Ge’s side. His voice was cold as though he was using all his coldness of the day for this moment.
“S-She… s-said that she’s coming back to hold her wedding.”
The old cook began stuttering again as she looked at him. After so many years, she still did not know how to face this young master whom she had taken care of due to his cold personality. He would only regain his warmth when facing the madam. Then, he would be as warm as spring.
“Hey, Qitong. I heard that you had called me this afternoon. Sorry about that. I was in a meeting and didn’t hear the phone ringing.”
Pei Ge quickly apologized the moment the call was connected. Her beautiful eyes were on her shadow which was cast on the golden floor tiles.
She was dressed in a Gucci business suit and looked like a white-collar elite. Underneath her experienced aura, there was a hidden charm. It was precisely because of this charm that Ji Ziming’s eyes would carefully follow her every move.
“I called you a few times, but you didn’t answer all of them. You’re so busy.”
On the other end, Qin Qitong was currently sitting on the bed. She watched Bi Zheng try one groom outfit after another. However, for some reason, there was none that actually fit his size. They were either all not the right size, unable to accentuate his good figure and stature, or revealed a part of his ankles.
Anyway, she had him try a few sets, but none was suitable.
“Alright, alright. Something happened in my company recently, so I’m a little busy. What about you? Auntie Zhang said that you are coming back in a few days’ time? Are you going to hold the marriage ceremony this soon?”
A smile was hidden in Pei Ge eyes as she looked at her shadow on the golden floor tiles. Due to the incident in the company, she had lost some weight. It was no wonder Ji Ziming always told her to eat more at the dining table.
Alas, she did not know that the meat eaten would return to her body two-fold.
“Something happened to your company? How is it now? Hurry and tell me. Did my cousin help you settle it?”
Qin Qitong was getting a little frustrated on how they could not find a suitable outfit for Bi Zheng, but when she heard about Pei Ge’s recent plight, she recalled that Ji Ziming was by her friend’s side. As long as he was willing—no, as long as Pei Ge was willing—no matter what happened to her company, he could help her to settle it in a jiffy.
“He did give me some advice.”
Pei Ge was unable to ignore the fact that Ji Ziming had provided a lot of help this time when her company’s trade secrets got leaked. Still, she had personally handled the bulk of it herself.
There were obviously many things to talk about between a pair of good friends, so Pei Ge quickly told her all about the things that had happened to her company recently as well as about Ji Miao.
What she did not notice was that the man was right behind her. He leaned against a stone pillar with his arms crossed as he stared at her with a smile in his eyes. As long as she was willing to, she could see him the moment she turned around.
By the time she finished speaking, Qin Qitong realized that the bit of things Pei Ge had mentioned were actually this serious. She was almost unable to meet her kind and cute best friend again, who was also a capable mother.
“Why didn’t you tell me about it? If you did, I could’ve asked Bi Zheng to help out.”
Bi Zheng was standing in front of Qin Qitong’s bed while in a striped suit. The worry on his face made her unable to ignore him. When he heard his name being mentioned, his eyes seemed to shine brightly.
The current him would rather go back to the company to face the boring formatting codes than stay here and try on set after set of ill-fitting clothes.
“No need. I’m almost done with them. Also, I still have Ji Ziming around. He has helped me a lot.”
Pei Ge gently rejected her offer. The latter had already mentioned news about her and Bi Zheng’s wedding, so how could she let this would-be-groom specially come over to help her investigate the case?
Luckily, the incident this time was almost settled, and she had the mood to be Qin Qitong’s bridesmaid.
“Sigh. Remember to let me know if anything happens again. Still, with my cousin by your side, you probably won’t need me and Bi Zheng. Anyway, you need to remember that you shouldn’t stop yourself if you need our help.”
Qin Qitong waved her hands as she looked at Bi Zheng, who had an aggrieved look, with sympathy. After the man took off the coat, he prepared to take off his pants when she covered the mouthpiece of the phone and said to him softly, “Don’t change anymore. These clothes don’t suit you at all.”
At this, Bi Zheng’s lips curled upward as a smile appeared in his eyes.
“Ge Ge, I will be coming back in around one week. Remember to send someone to fetch me at the airport then.”
Seeing his smile, her frustration at being unable to find fitting clothes were swept away, too. She patted the seat beside herself, calling him over.
As expected, he happily came over to sit down. He even quickened his act of taking off his suit pants and quickly crawled under the blankets, waiting for her to hang up the call.
“Don’t worry; I will definitely send someone over to fetch you. You’ll definitely scold me to death if I don’t. With your hot temper, I think only Bi Zheng can bear with you.”
Pei Ge chuckled. She felt happy when she thought of how blissful Qin Qitong was to be getting married. As long as the people she loved were blissful, she would be the same, too.
“I’m the one who has to bear with him.”
Qin Qitong swatted away the hand which was attempting to crawl up her body, yet she did not expect for his other hand to follow up immediately. She was about to lose her defense with his relentless attacks.
“Nonsense. I think he isn’t bad. Don’t bully him, or else you’ll come back crying. Listen to me: Treat him better. Don’t only bully him every day. You are almost getting married, so you should stop being this stubborn,” softly nagged Pei Ge, afraid that her male friend would be unable to tolerate the lassie’s temper. Alas, the ending was something she had not foreseen.
