CHAPTER 7

The intermittent heavy rain delayed the plane’s landing. Once they leave the secured area, An Chuxia starts rubbing her temple. Her ears kept on popping, making her uncomfortable.

Since they arrived early in the day, Jiang Yuan decided not to meet them at the airport, but she arranged for a driver to pick them up.

"Miss, allow me." An Chuxia can carry her own luggage, but steward Han won’t allow her. Between her and the butler, they only have 2 suitcases. Han Qilu has twice as much. However, Mankuai arrived with a lot more baggage, and steward Han is intent on not helping her at all.

Han Qilu returns from the toilet and retrieves his luggage. He doesn’t pay attention to Mankuai’s whining.

"Steward Han, aren’t you going to help me?" Mankuai asks the butler as Chuxia looks at them.

To An Chuxia, steward Han is always enthusiastic, but right now, he’s ice cold. "I only work for the Hans [family]."

He tells her in few words she is not family. An Chuxia knows he isn’t cold-blooded. He just… refuses to help her.

An Chuxia can’t stand the tension. With a bag on her back and empty hands, she pulls one of Mankuai’s bags. "I’ll help you."

At first, Mankuai was pissed because she had to haul her own luggage. Now, she thinks An Chuxia is mocking her by helping her out. Her quick temper is ignited, and without thinking, she lashes out at Chuxia.

An Chuxia takes a few steps back after being shoved. However, the suitcase topples over and falls on Mankuai. Since she is wearing heels, she falls down clumsily with the suitcase slamming down on her.

"Are you okay?" An Chuxia asks in trepidation as she moves to Mankuai’s side to lift the suitcase away from her.

But as soon as she sees a hand on the handle, Mankuai screams, "Go away!"

Mankuai grabs the suitcase handle, and it makes An Chuxia take another spill. Making matters worse, Chuxia slams her head up against the side of the baggage carousel, giving herself a possible concussion.

When her vision becomes clearer, she realizes the person who pushed her was Qilu.

"Mankuai, are you okay?" he asks as he moves the suitcase away to help Mankuai get back to her feet.

"Ow, ow, ow… ." She takes a sharp breath as she grabs her sprained ankle.

"Miss!" Steward Han, who witnessed the whole event, is now upset that he can’t even finish dealing with the luggage. He rushes to the couple, but halfway through his course, a dark shadow appears on his side before rushing toward An Chuxia. He runs, only for his footsteps to falter to a halt. Master Ling? Why is he here?

Ling Hanyu arrived at the airport… on foot. He didn’t know when An Chuxia's flight was supposed to arrive. But when he got home from the Han residence the night before, he couldn’t sleep. So he decided to walk to the airport.

"Do you need help getting up?" Ling Hanyu bore witness to the event. Hanyu's original response was to separate Mankuai from Chuxia, but that was before he saw An Chuxia fall.

But Hanyu didn’t expect Han Qilu to bypass Chuxia and run to Mankuai and get the suitcase off her. Ling Hanyu couldn’t bear seeing Chuxia ignored, so he rushed to An Chuxia as fast as he could.

"Yes." An Chuxia accepts Hanyu’s help to get up. She touches the bump on her head. It doesn’t bleed, but it’s tender to the touch.

Han Qilu secures his arms around Mankuai. When her eyes land on Chuxia, she makes a deliberate effort to secure her arms around Qilu’s neck. "You shouldn’t have pushed An Chuxia away. It was me who's clumsy."

"What I saw was she shoving the suitcase at you." His voice is devoid of emotion, but his eyes refuse to look An Chuxia’s way. He beckons the driver and asks him to get the car around. He holds on to her as they head for the gate.

"Young master… ." Steward Han was about to explain, but the moment has passed.

Han Qilu’s words might as well be equivalent to death to An Chuxia. She just stares at Qilu and Mankuai walking away. She's frozen on the spot.

She tries to stay strong so she doesn’t cry. Swallowing the bitterness in her throat, she tears her eyes away from the couple and focuses her gaze at Ling Hanyu. Smiling, she says, "Thank you. How did you get here?"

"I walked," he says as he surveys the numerous bruises forming on her skin. He knows the bump on the back of her head isn’t helping with her long trip from New York. She smiles at him, but he can see the sorrow in her eyes. The reflection makes his heart ache.

"Master Ling." Steward Han steps forward and greets him with respect. "Thank you."

"Based on what I saw, Han Qilu is heading back with Mankuai." He, then, looks at An Chuxia. "I think it would be best to take Chuxia to my residence to deal with her injuries… so that Mrs. Han won’t worry."

Steward Han quickly says, "Then, I shall accompany the lady."

Steward Han knows Ling Hanyu has feelings for An Chuxia, and he’s afraid that young master Ling would definitely win over An Chuxia's affections. Girls are in love with the idea of love, and he needs to put an end to it!

"Sir, is that your luggage?" The airport staff points to the suitcases being corralled by another staff member not too far away. "This is a public area and you should have possession of your bags at all times."

"Okay, thank you." Stewart Han heads to the bags to secure them.

Ling Hanyu and An Chuxia walk very slowly, side-by-side, as they exit the gate.

"He still can’t remember a thing?" Ling Hanyu finally asks.

She bows her head and shakes it slightly. "If he could remember, even a bit, do you think he’d act like this toward me? But this doesn’t matter right now. One day, he’ll remember."

Seeing An Chuxia sad but trying to be optimistic leaves a bad taste in his mouth. He’s willing to be her knight in shining armor, full of pure intent. However, the act also makes him feel uncomfortable.

Hanyu was about to tell her to forget Han Qilu, and move on to other people, but the words refuse to leave his lips.

Once they arrive at the Ling residence, Ling Hanyu, ever so much the gentleman, exits the car swiftly to come around and open An Chuxia's door. He doesn’t forget to ask, "Are you are able to walk?"

"Yes, I think I can walk with my own feet." She smiles as she exits the car.

Steward Han chooses to stay in the Han's car, saying it would be inconvenient for him to enter the residence. After all, it is best for him to keep this situation a secret from Jiang Yuan.

If they bring Chuxia to the hospital for treatment, paparazzi will make an issue out of the situation. After all, she’s not just "An Chuxia". Her name is now associated with being the future heiress of the Han Group. Being photographed would create a certain public opinion that would affect the Hans.

The Ling residence hasn’t changed. The mansion made of red stone and black iron railings makes the house look so peaceful, especially with the plants landscaped throughout the property. It looks like they’re coming home to paradise.

"Young master!" a set of soldiers in uniforms greet.

Fortunately, An Chuxia is used to this kind of greeting. But she can see this being overwhelming for other people!

Kuni approaches and greets them. "Young master, you’ve arrived."

"Yes." He pulls An Chuxia's hand. "Go get the family doctor."

Kuni acknowledges the command before glancing at An Chuxia quickly, and then disappears from their line of sight.

They get into the house through a route she’s not walked before. They walk past the front of the house until they reach the rear. They arrive at a small garden in front of a smaller house. The plants are labeled with names she has never heard, except for one rare orchid she has read about in a magazine. One can purchase a pot for one hundred and eighty thousand RMB.

They enter the house and pass through a small corridor before taking her to a room that is so neat, there’s no crease on the sheets.

"Have a seat." An Chuxia sits on the sofa before Ling Hanyu walks out. He returns with two cans of Red Bull, handing one to Chuxia.

An Chuxia isn’t fond of the beverage because it tastes weird to her. But since they’ve landed, she’s been restless from the intermittent sleep. The beverage can keep her alert.

After taking a few sips, she hears a familiar voice from the corridor outside. "Did my Chuxia arrive? Is my Chuxia still here?"

It doesn’t take long before Lao Ling stops calling out and walks in. Garbed in his formal robes, one would think he just returned from a formal event, and haven’t found time to change outfits.

An Chuxia immediately rises to her feet to greet Lao Ling. Ling Hanyu takes a sip of his drink before shifting his gaze from Chuxia to his grandfather. "Hi."

After hearing his grandson’s voice, Lao Ling realizes something's wrong.
