1665 Drug Immunity
Shangguan Hou placed the damaged chip back into the plastic zip-lock bag. Qiao En seemed even more upset. He looked at Qiao En for a few seconds and asked eventually. “What happened anyway?”
Qiao En leaned into the couch backrest powerlessly staring at the ceiling. He came clean and said, “I offended the wrong people, so they wrecked the laboratory out of revenge. Over 50 pieces of equipment in the laboratory block suffered varying degrees of damage.”
Shangguan Hou frowned. Over 50 laboratory equipment was destroyed, so this was very serious. Other than the cost of the equipment, they also lost important research data.
Such destruction held an inestimable loss.
“Who would have the balls to destroy the equipment? Did you catch the culprit?” Shangguan Hou paused and asked. “Don’t they know that you work for the base?”
Qiao En felt very angry inside just talking about this.
Till now, he was unable to figure out how people from the Huo family could access the laboratory block without anyone catching onto them. Even though they had checked the university’s surveillance footage and the cops were involved, it led them nowhere.
Even if he pinned this incident on the Huo family, there was no hard evidence, so it would never work. Instead, it would only have the opposite effect and bring him even more problems.
After all, they could openly enter the university and wreck the laboratory block as a warning to him. If they wanted to touch him, it was effortless.
He could only grit his teeth and suck it up.
Qiao En wiped his face. “It was the Huo family.”
He could not come clean to the school, but Shangguan Hou was from Mirage Base. Regardless of the power the family held, they probably had to think twice about offending them.
“The Huo family?” Shangguan Hou frowned hard. He asked in a more solemn tone. “How did you get involved with them?”
“It all started with my student. She told me about someone with a special constitution. Since that person was there to attend the academic conference at the university, I told my student to bring the person to my lab. In the end…”
Qiao En shook his head in annoyance. “She couldn’t even get this right and that person turned out to be related to the Huo family.”
The moment Shangguan Hou learned of the Huo family’s involvement, a name popped up in his mind. “Hang on. Is the person with a special constitution called Huo Yao?”
Qiao En was briefly stunned. He automatically asked rhetorically. “Uh huh. Do you know her?”
A murderous aura spewed from Shangguan Hou’s eyes. Not only did he know her, but he also nearly died at Shangguan Yu’s hands.
Qiao En felt startled by Shangguan Hou’s intense reaction. It felt as though the temperature in the room had gone down by a few degrees. “Mr. Shangguan?”
Shangguan Hou composed himself. When he looked at Qiao En again, he looked completely normal. He simply said mildly, “It’s true that she has a special constitution. If you want to use her as a test subject, don’t expect it to be easy.”
“What do you mean?” asked Qiao En quizzically.
Shangguan Hou thought about his encounter with her last year. “She’s immune to all drugs. Your anesthetics are useless against her.”
Qiao En thought to himself. No wonder Lu Xia failed in her mission. The girl was immune to drugs.
“She was here for the academic conference held by your university. Does this mean she’s still there?” asked Shangguan Hou.
“The conference has already ended. I’m not sure where she is now. However, I doubt they are in a rush to leave Country M.” Qiao En glanced at Shangguan Hou and added. “I can get the teachers at school to ask around for her whereabouts.”
