Chapter 138: The Hazy Morning Part 1
It's a bright sunny winter morning.
The fog above the river has not dissipated yet. The commercial area along the river is already very lively.
Xiao Ya is standing in a room at the Peninsula Century Hotel and is cleaning the windows. It's winter and the cold water is making her hands turn red. She sighs faintly as she looks out the window at the incomparable flourishing streetscape.
She sure wants to go shopping. But she still has a full day of work to do. She must work hard the fact that she is hired as a service representative at this superb five-star hotel and is being paid well.
Her mood brightens thinking about this. Thinking more optimistically, this is a new developing commercial area that has the most expensive and tallest architectures, so she'll just admire the scenery.
The young woman hums a melody as she cleans the window quickly. She breathes out some warm air and admires her own work on the window. At the same time, a sound of, "Ah!" comes from behind, scaring her making her drop the wet towel onto the floor.
She turns around and sees Xiao Ai's brilliant smile.
The young man, who's also a hotel worker, has a tall and slim body and a fair white face with a tiny beard on his chin. He's wearing black rimmed glasses and his bangs are long and almost covering his eyes. But Xiao Ya has seen him take off those glasses and move his bangs to the side; he's handsome and clean looking. Especially those eyes, those pupils are shiny and dark without any impurities.
Thinking up to this point, Xiao Ya's face blushes as she pushes him away, "What are you doing? You're always scaring people!"
Xiao Ai giggles and rests his arm over her shoulders as if they're close friends. This causes Xiao Ya's heart to skip a beat. They both look at the scenery outside of the window.
"Hey," Xiao Ai says suddenly.
"What?"
"If something bad happens today, remember to run outside and run away as far as you can," his voice carries a sense of laziness as he says these odd things to her, "Protect yourself well."
Xiao Ya gives him a weird look, "You're always behaving so strangely. What bad things can happen? Are you cursing me? You're so mean!"
Xiao Ai smiles, stuffs both hands into his pockets and walks toward the door, "Why would I curse you? You're so petty. Anyhow, just remember what I told you!"
She turns around and sees him swagger out of the room. She can't help but blurt out, "Xiao Ai……There's a new Zha Jiang Mian (noodles) restaurant beside the building. It's quite good. Do you want to go tonight?" After finishing saying these words, the girl can feel her heart pounding.
She sees him pausing his footstep as if he's thinking, but he doesn't turn around.
"If there's another opportunity, I'll ask you to go again," he waves his hand and leaves.
Xiao Ya stares at the empty doorway and doesn't know whether she should feel happy or sad. What does he mean by "if there's another opportunity"? Does he want to go with her or not?
She only feels bothered by a brief moment before feeling happy again like every other ordinary girl who has dreams and love. Xiao Ya returns to wiping the windows full of energy. At this moment, she notices that the spot that Xiao Ai was standing just now is facing a busy road. And far away at a barely noticeable area, there is a police car parked with two officers standing beside it.
The city has had several incidents lately, so the cops can be seen everywhere. Furthermore, this is a busy area, so Xiao Ya isn't surprised. Those explosions and murderings seem to be far away from her. She's just an ordinary citizen whose life needs to continue.
But at this very moment, she can't help but fix her eyes on those two officers. Firstly, it's because of the man. Although he's far away, she can still see that he's very handsome and full of personality. He's wearing a black police coat and boots. How can he be this cool? And the female officer beside him is also dressed similarly. She's super pretty; beautiful and cool.
Xiao Ya stares at them for a while feeling admiration and pity. It's winter yet they have to stand outside in the cold; it's not an easy job. She's heard that a few days ago, an officer was hurt. Hopefully, these two good-looking and well-matched officers can be safe!
With this warm feeling in her heart, Xiao Ya finishes cleaning up the room and goes to her next task.
It's still a long day to go.
Su Mian is standing beside the police car as she watches the people bustling up and down the streets as well as the glowing signs above on the buildings. She falls into a bit of a daze.
How long has it been since she's last gone shopping?
She doesn't even know.
From her memory, the last time she was like these girls walking down the streets dressed beautifully was just that one time, when Han Chen insisted on buying her a dress. Thinking about it makes her a bit depressed. She promised that she would wear that dress after buying it, but it's been sitting at the end of her closet. She's been following Han Chen through wind and rain as they immerse themselves in this quagmire-like case involving the seven-member organization.
Sigh……it's really such a waste for her pretty face. Criminal investigation has really ruined her prettiness.
Just as she's feeling full of herself and thinking of nonsense, Han Chen beside her finishes speaking on the phone and looks at her.
A beauty is a beauty. Whether it's Xiao Ya the service worker who doesn't know him or it's Su Mian, seeing Han Chen's standing tall and straight especially in those black police boots, he's just absolutely stunning. Su Mian glances at him twice. They've been together for so long now, yet every time he lifts his head or moves his body, why is her heart beating so fast from his handsomeness?
Han Chen is also looking at her.
The temperature in December is cold. Just like him, she's wearing a black police coat but with a belt around it to show off her pretty and slim body. Her face is a bit pale from being in the cold, but her eyes are still gleaming. They've been together for so long now, yet every time she looks at him, it's as if she still has many words to say.
Han Chen smiles, reaches out his arm and grabs her by the shoulder, "Let's go back."
"Mm."
The mass poisoning incident from two days ago has quiet down very quickly. The police obviously didn't use the antidote from A. Instead, the pharmacologists came up with an antidote and resolved the crisis; no one was hurt in the end.
The police conducted their investigation on the case immediately. They found the answer very quickly. From asking a small pharmaceutical company to make the antidotes and damaging the pipelines in the area to release the poison to sending the express package were all done by A himself. Probably because he's on the wanted list, so he didn't hide and entered every security camera's field of view. He even made a V sign with his fingers toward the camera just outside of the mailing company.
Of course, he altered his facial features a bit as a disguise. He had a mustache and beard with a big pair of black-rimmed glasses. But there was no way that Su Mian couldn't recognize him from his arrogance and wildness.
The search is still ongoing in the city. Even though the seven-member organization hasn't made another move for the past two days, the Black Shield Team and every experienced criminal investigator know that in order to fight against the most vicious and intelligent criminal, patience and persistence is key at the end. Whoever has more attention to detail and whoever is tougher, will be the last one laughing.
