I had a major surgery when I was in junior high which caused nerves damage thus leading me to not being able to feel anything on my back for several years. I rarely mentioned about this and almost no one knew of it.

There was this once during our study period when the girl seated behind me started to play ‘guess the word’ by writing on the person seated next to her.

She played a few rounds before asking me to sit straight and then started to write something on my back. I was stunned because I totally couldn’t feel anything so I shook my head and told her I do not know.

She wrote something else and I shook my head again. She did not believe me and said that I must be lying to her since she had wrote something extremely simple which I should have been able to guess it.

That moment was extremely awkward. If I did not explain my situation then, I could not justify myself. However if I explained, then it will be a super long story.

As I was debating what to do, Mr F who rarely joined in to our conversation said, “I’ll do it.”

We still were not close then, despite sitting next to each other, we rarely talked to each other. After all, Mr F is the ice mountain of the class. His words managed to shock everyone then, feeling as though the genius is going down to the level of commoners.

He did not give me any time to protest and simply raised his hand, writing something on my back. It went without saying that I did not know what he wrote but everyone started to become interested because Mr F participated. So I found myself to be the centre of attention as everyone turned to look at me.

I know that it will not look good if I continued to say that I did not know so I simply answered that he wrote his surname.

Who knew that I managed to guess correctly? I was especially shocked when he said that I was right.

He continued and wrote another word on my back. I answered that he wrote my surname this time. He seem to laugh softly before saying that I guessed correctly.

The girl behind me had commented, “But that doesn’t appear to be the answer.”

But no one continued to pursue the matter as they continued with their chatting, allowing me to be off the hook.

Until today, I still did not know what Mr F have wrote on my back. It was later that I learnt that he actually knew about my surgery. There was once when I was absent from school and he happened to see my medical report on the table and committed this information to his memory.
