Chapter 222: A Big Blunder

Yu You smiled. She wasn’t gorgeous by any means, but she looked smart.

“Aren’t you going to bandage it?” Yun Xiangxiang noticed Yu You starting to stow the things away after she applied the salve.

“It will heal faster if you don’t bandage it,” Yu You explained. “Don’t worry, it won’t get infected. I’ll reapply it once every five hours.”

“I’ll be in your care then,” Yun Xiangxiang felt embarrassed.

“Don’t worry about it. Taking care of you is my job now,” Yu You smiled.

Yun Xiangxiang didn’t know what she should say. They were not close after all. Yu You did her own thing. After tidying her things away, she asked Yun Xiangxiang, “Can you bring me to the place where it happened?”

Yun Xiangxiang nodded. He Wei told the public that the falling glass was an accident. He didn’t tell them about the bomb. It was his decisive ploy to see who would hand or make the bomb fall into the demolitionist’s hand.

As there was insufficient evidence, they did not call the cops. Even the guess about someone causing an accident because they slipped when they moved things was just a guess. Nobody saw anyone up there back then. Even Ai Li only saw the silhouette of half a head. She couldn’t see the person clearly, as she was blocked by the glass panel.

But the crew had cordoned off the house where the glass fell from. The staff were also keeping an eye on it.

He Wei wanted to strike fear into the perpetrator’s heart, causing them to reveal themselves.

Yun Xiangxiang and Yu You entered the room easily. The whole building was reserved for their filming. Since the house’s interior was not in use, nobody would decorate it. That was why not many things were in there.

One glance was enough to take in all the decor. Yun Xiangxiang followed Yu You around. Yu You looked around for five minutes before going downstairs to stand where Yun Xiangxiang stood when the glass fell. She then went to where Ai Li stood.

As Ai Li was taller than her, she placed a brick and stood on it. Yun Xiangxiang knew she was trying to determine the perpetrator’s height through this.

The perpetrator needed to keep their exposure to a minimum, yet they needed to be sure they could hit Yun Xiangxiang. Knowing that, Yu You could deduce roughly where the perpetrator stood. If she looked through Ai Li’s perspective, she could know their height and distance.

“Something’s not right,” after Yu You was done, she knew something was different from her assumption.

Yun Xiangxiang was baffled. She was horrible at deduction.

“Xiangxiang, can you get some people for me to recreate the crime scene?” Yu You requested from Yun Xiangxiang.

“”I’ll call Brother Wei.” Only Brother Wei can call the shots for this.

He Wei was an efficient man. He also trusted Yun Xiangxiang. The producer had some complaints, but He Wei overruled them.

As their injuries were minor, Du Changrong and Yi Yan came back to cooperate too.

“Hold on. Director Du, you’re saying that you were standing right here, and the glass fell after you turned around, right?” Yu You grasped the key to the case.

“Yeah, I showed some movements because I was explaining a scene for them,” Du Changrong nodded.

Yun Xiangxiang and Yi Yan attested to that statement. It looked like that back then.

“Mr. He, I think you’re taking the wrong way in this case. Xiangxiang wasn’t the target of the attack. Director Du was.”

Yu You looked at He Wei. She pointed at the window. “The perpetrator has to stand there to stay hidden and confirm the target was beneath the glass. Director Du’s position was confirmed before he turned around. When they retreated to push the steel pipes, they didn’t know Director Du had changed places. Of course, that meant Xiangxiang did change her place too.”

Yu You drew where the trio stood at first, as well as where the glass fell. When done, they were certain the target was Du Changrong.

If Yun Xiangxiang and Yi Yan were faster, they could have dodged it.

Yun Xiangxiang looked shocked. Am I not blessed by the goddess of luck?

No wonder they couldn’t find the suspect after investigating for so long. They made a huge blunder.

“Me?” Du Changrong didn’t expect him to be the target. “Who would want to kill me?”

“I’m sorry. This isn’t in my job scope,” Yu You answered politely.

She was only responsible for serving Yun Xiangxiang. If the target was not her, she did not see the need to waste her time further.

“Thank you, Miss Yu,” He Wei was still grateful. After all, with Yu You’s arrival, within a day, they knew who the actual target was. He trusted their investigation would be quick if he traced it back from Du Changrong.

“Director Du, you have to treat me to a meal,” Yun Xiangxiang requested.

“Of course, of course,” cold sweat poured from Du Changrong.

Ai Li was only responsible for Yun Xiangxiang. If it weren’t for him moving back, he would have been dead by now. He didn’t have an agile bodyguard like she did.

“We were all collateral damage,” Yun Xiangxiang immediately visited Ai Li and told her about the blunder.

“I’m just glad you’re not who they’re after,” Ai Li was worried about Yun Xiangxiang, as she couldn’t protect her now.

“Get well soon. I need you to protect me,” Yun Xiangxiang was getting closer with Ai Li.

“I’ll be discharged in two days,” she had a few stitches for her wound and could only be discharged after the stage of susceptibility is over.

The crew stopped filming for a while. As both incidents were not after her, Yun Xiangxiang didn’t get involved. She applied for leave to take care of Ai Li in the hospital.

He Wei was busy investigating and making things clearer. He didn’t have time to care for Yun Xiangxiang, so he let her do what she wanted: stay at the hospital to care for Ai Li.

On the second day of Yun Xiangxiang’s stay at the hospital, the news headline read: He Xingzhou is acquitted of his charges.

Song Meng sent it to her ASAP. It was the thirty-seventh day of He Xingzhou’s detention. He was finally proven innocent.

This was a big case. Too many people followed it. Too many people wanted to know the truth, but the Ministry of Justice did not release any reports.

You Jie was arrested though. Rumors said You Jie backstabbed He Xingzhou. After all, only those close to him knew He Xingzhou’s account number. You Jie used to be close to He Xingzhou.

One was arrested, one released. Netizens started their clue-finding trip. Hindsight is twenty-twenty, after all.

Yun Xiangxiang didn’t believe any of the comments. He Xingzhou was unusually quiet after he was released. There wasn’t even a post about it.

On the next day, He Xingzhou called her alone. He sounded depressed, “Thank you, Xiangxiang.”

“For what?” Yun Xiangxiang was puzzled.

“Someone told me I should thank you for getting my name cleared in such a short time,” there was finally a hint of a smile in He Xingzhou’s voice.

“I didn’t do anything. I’m glad you got out in one piece,” Yun Xiangxiang didn’t dare accept his gratitude. But when she thought of You Jie, she asked after a pause, “Can you…tell me the whole story?”
