Manager Zhong handed the phone to Nian Junting. Nian Junting saw Jiang Yuning’s delicate face in the news photo. He spent a short while reading the news with a frown, then gave the phone back to Manager Zhong.
At the police station, Nian Xi read the news as well.
She was excited. She thought Jiang Yuning would stay in France for a while, but to her surprise, he came back quickly.
“You’re reading the news about Jiang Yuning again.” Cheng Jing showed up behind her and looked at the photo on her phone.
“Sure I am,” said Nian Xi, filled with indignation. “The Japanese and Americans did such a shameless thing. Now they’ve released him. Who’s gonna punish the plagiarist then?”
“Stop asking for more. They’ve run out of their countries long ago. They’ll never admit so easily,” said Cheng Jing.
“I’m going to ask Director Wang about it.” Nian Xi stood up, then ran toward the director’s office. Director Wang had a guest, so she waited.
Before she started talking, Director Wang said to her, “I know you’re going to ask me questions about Jiang Yuning. I can only tell you that each side has taken a step backward. No one earned benefits. Now Langyi Oda has a very bad reputation in the world of physics. As for why we didn’t sue him, that was Jiang Yuning’s decision.”
“Why did he make that decision?” Nian Xi was surprised.
Director Wang shrugged and said, “Perhaps, he was worried about his own safety. The longer he stayed abroad, the more danger he might need to face. Anyway, he has the right to make his own decision.”
Nian Xi didn’t know what to say. She was still angry.
“Jiang Yuning’s case has ended. I heard that you have a lot of videos to check, don’t you? Why are you so free that you are always thinking about his case?” Director Wang crossed his fingers and said, “I admit that Jiang Yuning is good-looking. You don’t fancy him, do you?”
“No,” Nian Xi awkwardly straightened her body and said, “I admire Mr. Jiang. When will he come back to Xia City?”
“I don’t know. He might not even come back to Xia City at all. After all, Xia City isn’t his hometown,” Director Wang waved a hand. “Go. Stop disturbing me. Cases are waiting for you to solve. Don’t always think about the unimportant things.”
Nian Xi left the office with disappointment.
Back in her office, she thought about it carefully, then found the current situation was actually rather good. Jiang Yuning had returned, and his case was officially over. She had made it clear with him, they couldn’t start a relationship.
They would both go back to their regular lives, and that would be good.
After thinking it through, Nian Xi started checking the surveillance videos together with Cheng Jing. Recently, she and her colleagues were dealing with a theft case. The thief had successfully stolen from twenty different places in a row. The case had aroused public attention.
About 7:00 p.m., they were still watching the videos while eating out of takeout boxes. Abruptly, Captain Zhao’s voice was heard, “We got some nice food here. Come on.”
Nian Xi immediately stood up and ran out of the office. “What is it?”
A few beautifully packed bags were lying on the table. She opened one and found some chocolate cookies and desserts.
“Wow, who bought these? So generous.” Nian Xi hurriedly unpacked a chocolate cookie for herself.
Fan Yiyi weirdly glanced at her and said, “They’re from Mr. Han. He is Mr. Jiang’s assistant. He said this is a little gift from Mr. Jiang, to thank you guys for taking care of him in France. The other squad got some too.”
Nian Xi paused briefly, then asked, “They’re back in the city?”
