Nian Xi looked distracted when she came out of the office in the police station.
The colleagues who brushed past her gave her looks of sympathy.
Many of her friends had seen the news of Jiang Yuning’s proposal to her on WeChat. Everyone thought that she would be getting married this year, and yet such a thing had happened.
After walking alone for some time, she suddenly saw a silhouette dart across her. Feng Ji Chuan stood in front of her, and there was a look of concern in his jet black eyes. “Xiao Xi, are you alright?” he asked.
Nian Xi looked up at him absentmindedly, before flashing him a wry smile and saying, “Who can remain alright when such a thing happens?”
Feng Ji Chuan frowned when he saw Nian Xi’s current state. He felt terrible, and he even regretted his decision back then. If he could be more considerate towards her and be more thoughtful towards their affairs, they might have been married with kids. She would never have met Jiang Yuning and have her heart broken again.
However, it was useless to dwell over what one could have done, because most of the time, it was hard to turn back.
“Xiao Xi, I’m sure the police will find him,” Feng Ji Chuan consoled her. “They merely want to make use of him, so they won’t kill him.”
A puzzled look appeared in Nian Xi’s eyes.
Feng Ji Chuan then explained to her, “Previously, I was in charge of TOX’s case when I was in Xia City, so I do have some understanding of it. If the police can’t find Jiang Yuning, I’ll personally help you track him down after I join Interpol.”
Nian Xi was stunned. “Interpol?” she asked.
“Yes. Based on my past performance and my decent management of the TOX case, they extended an olive branch to me,” Feng Ji Chuan continued. “But I still have to train for some time. I was initially hesitant because my original plan was to stay in Xia City and work my way up. But Jiang Yuning’s case made me rethink my plans.”
Nian Xi was speechless.
She was confused for a moment, before she stuttered and asked, “Hey… Could you take me with you as well? I also want to search for Yuning personally.”
After a moment of hesitation, Feng Ji Chuan gave her an honest reply. “Xixi, you need to be meticulous and good at fighting. You also need to have a record of outstanding performance and to have cracked big cases before. However, you don’t have any of these. Besides, I’m not the leader of Interpol, so how can I take you with me? You have to make it in through your own abilities.”
Nian Xi instantly felt a great sense of defeat.
She felt that people like Feng Ji Chuan entered the police force solely to hit her down.
People like him could easily enter Interpol without much effort. In contrast, she had to work herself to the bone when she decided to enter Interpol back then.
“Xixi, don’t let your imagination run wild. Everyone desperately wants to save Jiang Yuning. You can’t rescue him simply through joining Interpol. Nobody can guarantee that we can save him. I’ll try my best to help you. Although… you’re not my girlfriend anymore, you’re still like a sister to me,” Feng Ji Chuan said with a wry smile.
If they could not be a couple, he could at least be a good brother who would watch over her like what he used to do when they were kids.
