Mo Liuxi was at a loss for words.
Yan Jin could never keep his thoughts to himself. This was nothing like what Mo Liuxi had planned.
Jiang Peiying pulled Yan Jin by his ear and said, “Why can’t you just think before you speak for once?”
“But those are my favorite foods,” Yan Jin curled his lips.
Yan Su could not help but laugh out loud and said, “Jin, if I agree to marry him, I’ll get him to buy all those things for you every single day.”
Mo Liuxi’s eyes lit up. Yan Lv frowned helplessly. “Yan Su…”
“Dad, I know that you probably do not see me as a reliable person.” Yan Su looked into her father’s eyes with determination, “I hurt you and mom because of Shi Xiang. I insisted on keeping the child and put you in a difficult spot, but I truly believe that Liuxi loves me a lot. He may be younger than me, but he took good care of me when we were together. He protected me. He is the most talented and capable person I’ve ever met, despite his age. When I was young, I said all the nice things in the world about Shi Xiang. Then I met Liuxi and quickly learned that those nice things I’ve said before were all out of ignorance and naivete. I did not understand what qualities to look for in a man.”
Yan Su continued, “Liuxi is not perfect. He might be a little bit childish when handling relationships, and he gets jealous easily. He has quite a temper as well whenever he gets jealous. Other than that, I can’t find anything else that I might dislike—he even promised me he would work on those shortcomings. I don’t think there is such a thing as a perfect match, no matter who you are. You need to take time to learn each other’s pace, just like how you and mom would still get into fights sometimes.”
“I cannot promise that I would be with Liuxi till the end of time, or that he would love me forever, but I am willing to take this chance with him,” Yan Su said.
As parents, Yan Lv and Jiang Peiying were deeply moved by their daughter’s words.
Mo Liuxi was touched as well. He could feel the overwhelming rush of emotion rising up within him.
“All right, you’ve gone and said it. What more could your father and I say?” Jiang Peiying said. There was nothing more she could do. They had a baby, and she thought that Mo Liuxi behaved well in the few days he was with them.
Even if Mo Liuxi was just trying to please Yan Lv and herself, she could tell that he was comfortable doing chores and cooking—he must have learned all those things when he was younger.
Also, although Mo Liuxi was from a good family and had a bright future, he did not have the bad habits of the other rich kids.
Jiang Peiying could see Mo Liuxi’s sincerity as he proposed in front of Yan Lv and herself.
“Mo Liuxi, I hope you keep your promise.” Yan Lv warned him, “If you treat her badly, I don’t care who you are or where you are from—I will not let my daughter be wronged by you.”
“And Yan Su, no matter which man you choose, you’ll still need to rely on yourself. Don’t forget to keep working hard just like before,” Yan Lv advised his daughter.
“Thank you, dad.” Mo Liuxi appreciated Yan Lv’s words.
“Now come and put the ring on her. What are you still doing there in the snow? Are you trying to become an ice sculpture?” Yan Lv said bluntly.
Mo Liuxi tried to move but realized that his leg was numb from all the kneeling. He could barely feel his knee. It was as cold as the snow beneath him.
Mo Liuxi gave a bitter smile and said, “Susu, come over to me. My knee is numb.”
Yan Su walked over to him. Her heart ached for him despite the awkwardly comedic situation. She was just about to help Mo Liuxi up, but he pulled her down into his arms and put the ring on her finger.
Mo Liuxi then pressed his thin lips onto Yan Su’s forehead.
God knew how much Mo Liuxi wanted to kiss Yan Su on her lips, but her parents were watching, so he had to restrain himself.
Yan Jin covered his eyes with his hands, trying his best not to look at them.
The fireworks got louder and louder outside.
It was past 12. A new year had arrived.
“Susu, Yan Yan, happy new year,” he said.
