Chapter 5: Apple of Vitality
After the small stream of warmth disappeared, Yue felt that he had become a bit stronger.
On the other side of the room, White Bones hack off the head of another zombie with his axe. A faint light flashed and in its place a piece of chest armour condensed out of the palm-sized bone.
“It grew yet another level. Its growth is fast!”
Yue thought as he took a look at White Bones.
Each time White Bones leveled up, his 6 attributes increased again, while only two of Yue’s attributes could increase. Both of their attribute sets had increased, but White Bones’ was 3 times that of his.
After levelling up, White Bones has gotten even stronger; he waved the large bone ax and easily slayed the remaining 2 zombies. The zombie attacks then seemed to have stopped.
All the zombies had died, and so Yue was able to let out a sigh of relief. Enduring the stench from the corpses, Yue put on some gloves and looked for those black Life Coins.
Right now those Life Coins were of no use, but Yue believed that they would prove essential in the future.
Having done all this, Yue immediately went back to sit down before the window, quietly trying to restore his stamina.
“Can’t stay here too long.”
Yue inspected the room and frowned.
Here in this small room lay more than 10 headless corpses; there was foul blood flowing, it was foul smelling and was not a place a person could stay in. After the fierce battle, Yue’s mouth felt dry and thirsty. Yue did not dare drink the tap water from the dormitory, as he did not know if the virus was present in the water. He would eventually die if he stayed here.
Yue quietly rested for 10 minutes and his stamina slowly recovered from 4 points to 7 points. It took another 20 minutes for his stamina to recover back to 8 points.
“It seems like the speed of stamina recovery is not a fixed value; the lower it is, the harder it is to fully recover.”
Yue had been observing his stamina recovery and quietly contemplated this.
He stood up and looked outside again: this time the calm had been restored within the campus. Students and school staff were either infected or had found a place to hide. The zombies were staggering all over the campus.
Most of the zombies around the male dormitory were attracted to Chen Gang’s group of 6, leaving a large empty area.
Among the empty areas, only a few scattered zombies were blankly standing there.
“Climb down.”
Yue looked at those zombies and ordered White Bones.
White Bones’ two eyes briefly glinted with corporeal, demonic flames. (Note: I am not too sure about this part so I had to try and translate it. What the old translator put was basically nonsense- ‘White Bone flashing those soul fire’ Also, I am wondering how a skeleton can have flashing eyes.)
It then put the bone axe in its back and agilely climbed down the rope placed there by Yue.
As White Bones landed, he let out a sound, which was very loud considering the utter silence of the area.
4 daft looking zombies suddenly turned around and walked unsteadily towards White Bones.
After White Bones landed, Yue quickly climbed down the rope carrying a big camping backpack.
Seeing the 4 zombies staggering over, White Bones advanced forward and swung his axe, cutting off a zombie head and sending it flying.
Yue quickly went behind a zombie and used the Novice Stick to smash its head, knocking it crooked to the side.
As long as you did not fear the zombie virus, when engaging in a 1 on 1 battle in the open space, even ordinary humans could beat the zombie. Slow movement was the biggest weakness of the zombies.
The 2 remaining zombies had just gotten close to Yue when White Bones easily beheaded them with his bone axe.
After levelling up twice, as long as it wasn’t besieged by dozens of zombies, White Bones could easily slay one of the zombies.
“Advance in that direction!”
Yue pointed towards the small supermarket and ordered White Bones, quickly rushing in that direction.
White Bone received the order from Yue and quickly rushed towards the small supermarket whilst holding the large bone axe.
Yue was trying hard to catch up from behind.
At this time the two sides’ difference in stats had been revealed: with 12 points in agility, White Bones’ speed was a bit faster than Yue’s. After only a short period of time, White Bones had already left him behind.
Yue and White Bones running quickly on the street generated noises, thus attracting the attention of surrounding zombies. They soon staggered towards that direction from the side.
The zombies’ speeds were too slow compared to Yue’s and White Bones’, but dozens of zombies were chasing them from behind. It gave them a feeling of great pressure.
If surrounded by the zombies, Yue would not survive.
The small supermarket in the university had 4 zombies wandering around it, whom heard the running sound and staggered towards them.
White Bones charged towards a zombie, swinging his axe, and soon a zombie was sent flying.
2 other zombies took the opportunity to jump on White Bones, clawing at him randomly .
White Bones brought his axe up and swung it down, beheading the 2 zombies one by one.
By the time Yue had reached the small supermarket, White Bones had already slain all the zombies around.
“Amazing!”
Looking down at the fragmented bodies of the corpses in front of White Bones, he couldn’t help feeling envious.
Being an undead, White Bones had no fear of the zombie virus. If Yue was surrounded by 4 zombies, there was no way he could easily slay them. The Novice Stick in his hand wass hard enough but lacked in sharpness; it was much less sharp than the bone axe in White Bones’ hand.
“What is that…?”
Upon focusing his eyes Yue saw a red apple among the zombie corpses, wrapped in a pouch so that it was not stained with zombie blood.
Yue quickly picked up the red apple and 4 Life Coins, then rushed into the small supermarket.
[Apple of Vitality! After eating, if in non-combat state, the consumer is able to restore 4 points of stamina within 5 minutes. Can be sold for 15 Life Coins!]
Glancing at the apple, Yue saw the information in his head.
“Nice one.”
Yue quickly put the apple in his pocket and speedily dashed into the supermarket.
Inside the supermarket, 2 of the employees that had became zombies were beheaded by White Bones.
Yue burst into the supermarket to look around but did not find anything strange. Immediately, he rushed to the shelves and found candy, chocolate and other high-calorie foods, sweeping them into his mountaineering backpack. These high calorie foods could provide him with the energy needed for the day.
Taking all the candies, chocolate and biscuits, Yue went and stuffed a few packets of instant noodles into his backpack, as well as 3 large bottles of purified water. His backpack was now stuffed full.
