Chapter 12: The New Terminal
In the hospital, Cyril was sitting on the bed.
He was in a daze.
"It looks like this is the end." He muttered.
'This is Rose's memory… she had a rough childhood! No, Wait?.'
Cyril woke up from the daze and heaved a long sigh.
'Why am I sympathizing with her? Didn't she come here to me to kill me?'
His forehead creased and his eyebrows frowned. His face made a severe expression, and it looked like he was pondering something deeply.
'I don't know what kind of mess I got in? I am very perplexed about all this. I thought people with extraordinary power would likely to be so rare that I would likely meet one extraordinary person in twenty years( if they existed). But I met three extraordinary in just short three months.'
'First, it was Allen who started killing with no reason and almost took my life, then came Officer Leon. He appeared to be very ordinary but investigates extraordinary cases. Next entered a girl named Rose with a complicated childhood, and almost made my heart jump out of my body.'
'But why didn't Rose kill me?'
'Is she from the same faction as Allen?'
'Does that organization Council of Sin just want to scare me?' Cyril lampooned.
'They may have other people with special powers. I somehow have gotten into…. Sigh.'
'Seriously, What do they want from me?'
'Maybe... My fate is not so good.'
'And what the hell is wrong with the Screen? Rose is extraordinary, but it showed level zero. Fuck this Screen! It must be broken. I can't depend on this.'
He recalled yesterday's events and shivered. 'Those two girls are freaking me out seriously.'
'If it wasn't for the fact that voice … I would have thought that it was just a bad dream.'
When Cyril woke up this morning, his heart was racing, and his back was drenched. It took some time for him to realize that what he saw was a dream. Then only Cyril started to calm down. He had thought everything from the Rose to death was real.
'Yes, how could it be real? It was very realistic though. I am lately having bad dreams about Allen coming to kill me. I thought I had gotten used to it, but it seems I was wrong. But It's strange that a new girl came to kill me... No, she killed me… in a dream though!'
'Maybe I should request for a more professional psychologist than the last one.' Cyril thought that one day these dreams would kill him for sure.
That was the time he heard a familiar voice. That same voice he heard when the Screen had updated last time.
Update Completed!
New Terminal added!
'Again!' Though Cyril was happy that the Screen got updated again, at the same time, he felt confused. 'Why did it update again?'
Cyril said 'Screen,' and it appeared.
When he glanced the Screen, Cyril was so amazed that he made an 'O.'
Previously, when Cyril had said 'Screen,' it wouldn't have appeared. He needed to stare at a person to make Screen appear before him.
After the first update...
Cyril had to say "View," then only a small screen would have appeared. However, it would only have shown the target's information and nothing else.
But now...
Cyril called, and it appeared with the exquisite layout.
The Screen that appeared was square shaped and an octagon formed inside the square by overlapping its boundaries forming four triangles shaped at each of four corners.
There were two icons with "A" and "B" shapes on the top upper left corner and top upper right corner respectively while the bottom left corner and bottom right corner was empty.

(A/N: I tried to make the exact layout. It looked fine in google docs but not in Tapread. Maybe the reason is line spacing and paragraph spacing being different from Google Docs.)
'A? B? What are they?'
The middle part of the Screen was empty.
Cyril felt excited. 'I can't wait to try it. I am very much looking forward.'
When he focused on the icon "A," his abilities were listed at the center part of the Screen.
[View]: Can "see" the target information quickly. Restrictions will be Applied.
[Prediction]: Can predict the target's next action. Restrictions will be Applied.
[Mind Reading]: Can read the target's mind. Restrictions will be Applied.
'So A represents the abilities that I possess.' Cyril moved his eyes towards icon B at the upper right corner. 'Then what does B represents?'
Cyril thought for a while but quickly gave up. 'I wonder what could it be?'
He saw there were four books arranged next to each other at the center of the Screen.
He was surprised. 'These books are...Then B represent the book. Weird! Why are there books? And First two are the ones I wrote.'
The first book was his first Novel- The Blind Hero; the second was his second Novel- The legend of Almighty, the third book was titled 'Diary of Memories' and the fourth book was titled 'Book of Abilities.'
Cyril didn't look at those first two books. Maybe he thought they were his books, so he doesn't need to check them.
Cyril had already checked the book named 'Diary of Memories' this morning. 'The Diary of memories contains the memories of those people who had used their powers on me… at the least, that should be the case.'
'Rose used her powers on me, and this book appeared which seemed to contain a portion of her memory.'
'But why am I getting these powers? Do I get new and amazing abilities whenever I meet a new extraordinary human? I had previously thought I would get a new ability whenever I get near death but yesterday's incident proved me wrong. I didn't... die that time but.. died in... a dream... Or that counts as being near dead… Hmm?'
Cyril shook his head to remove useless thoughts.
Cyril 'moved' his gaze towards the fourth book. Cyril hadn't had checked on that book 'Book of Abilities'.
Cyril focused on that book, and on the middle part of the Screen, the book opened, several pages started floating. Gradually, they stopped, and a page appeared.
'Nightmare' Cyril read the first word written on the top of that page. Next, he started reading the sentence beside that word.
Nightmare: Shows the target his worst fear in the form of an illusion or a dream.
Lifting his gaze from the book, Cyril recalled those horror scenes and connected it to the "dream" he had last night. It didn't take long for Cyril to conclude that the 'Nightmare' must be the ability Rose used on him.
He returned his gaze at the book and saw there was nothing else there.
He closed the Screen.
'I don't want to get mixed up with those people with magical abilities; otherwise, god knows when I would lose my life… Maybe even I wouldn't know.'
He sighed 'Today I would be discharged, and coincidentally the Academy would start from tomorrow. I hope four years would go smoothly without any problems.'
