The more I thought about it, the stranger things seemed. But all that aside, if the fat bitch was dead, at least I wouldn't be getting a complaint. I comforted myself in this way and stopped thinking about the ordeal. I sat down at my computer and continued playing LOL to push away the troubles in my mind.

But I couldn't seem to escape the thoughts. I played for an afternoon, or rather, I basically lost for an afternoon. It pissed me off so much that I uninstalled the game entirely.

Since I had to get up early in the mornings, I usually slept pretty early as well. It was past 9 when I had a bit to eat, and then I headed to bed. But that night, I didn't feel like sleeping. My mind kept going over my fight with Yang Xiaoxia earlier in the day. I tossed and turned, having a hard time getting to sleep.

I must have finally fallen asleep, when I dreamt that I returned to Chengcheng to deliver a package to Yang Xiaoxia. But when the door opened, Yang Xiaoxia was dead, blood covering her face.

I suddenly jolted up in bed. And then I realized that it had just been a dream.

The sky was growing bright. It was probably about 6 or 7. I still had some time before I had to get to work, but I wasn't really sleepy. I pulled up my covers and lied in bed for another hour, just staring off into the distance, until my phone alarm rang. I came back to my senses.

After my dream and what happened yesterday, I wasn't in the best condition. It was a strange feeling. I was dizzy but not tired. I considered calling in for a day off, but then I recalled that I'd just taken a day off a week ago. The boss definitely wouldn't approve another vacation. So I just braced myself and decided to go to work.

The fresh morning air helped with the dizziness a bit. I stopped in at the store before heading out to the main office to get my packages.

I arrived relatively early that day. The only ones sorting packages were the delivery driver, Little Wang, and Little Li. Little Wang spotted me and was about to greet me, but instead, he gave a puzzled look. "Ji Wen, did you do something bad yesterday? You don't look so good."

"I didn't sleep well last night."

I glanced at the rearview mirror on the truck, and that's when I noticed that I had dark bags under my eyes and my face was very pale. I looked like I'd become ill.

Little Wang chuckled and pat me on the back. "Where's the comradery? You had a fun night out and didn't bother inviting me?"

I pushed away Little Wang's hand. "When would I have had the energy to go out? Yesterday, one of the people I delivered a package to died. The police ended up questioning me all afternoon. How did I get tied up in something so unlucky?"

At the side, Little Li spoke up. "I heard about that. It was really bad. The couple both jumped off from the sixth floor. The bodies were apparently really terrifying. I think the police stopped by the store yesterday. They must have been asking after you. What happened?"

"How should I know what happened? I was completely taken aback by it all too."

Without divulging anything, I started sorting packages. When Little Li mentioned that the bodies had been terrifying, I immediately recalled the nightmare I had last night. For some reason, my heart started beating faster. It was bright and early in the morning, but there was an eerie feeling about.

I shook my head to clear my thoughts and got back to sorting, but then the package in my hands caught my attention.

The package seemed just like the one I had delivered to Yang Xiaoxia yesterday. It was the same sized box and felt just as light.

I couldn't shake the feeling that the strange package had something to do with Yang Xiaoxia's death. I checked the recipient's information but saw that it wasn't for Yang Xiaoxia. Instead, it was for someone in a completely different neighborhood.

By this point, I had no interest in sorting packages. I held the light box in my hands and a strange idea popped into my head. I should open it!

After delivering for more than a year, I'd seen various delivery people open up packages, though I'd never done such a thing myself. Such ill-gotten gains were hardly a good thing. But in that moment, I really wanted to open that package.

My thoughts kept going back and forth, but my hands didn't seem to be listening to my brain. They slowly untied the string around the box and slowly tore off the packaging. With each tear I made, an uneasy feeling started to well within me, as if this wasn't just an empty package but rather a ticking time bomb.
