On the Northern Frontier RAW
“Well, what do you plan to do? ”
After leaving the office of the branch leader, the one-eyed knight let out a slow and deliberate groan. He tilted his head, pondering what he’d even heard.[ Note: Special thanks to Meteor for translating this one for me!]
“You wouldn’t want to watch over that room all the way past noon would you?”
Well I do not want to… But if he asked me nicely, I would do it. Like a good child, I’ll watch the house for him. I didn’t want to have accidentally knock things over and ruin them so I’ll stay on the bed where I can’t break anything… But that’s boring. Just imagining it bores me. The one-eyed knight who looked at me with intrigue leaked out a laugh with a grin on his face. Eh? Why is he laughing?
“You’re very easy to understand. Your tail dropped the moment I mentioned watching the room.”
I would definitely say if I was human, my face would be red with embarrassment. I can’t help that my tail is obedient to my emotions. Definitely cannot help it..
It’s hanging…
“Do you want to play outside? We can’t just keep you locked up in the room. Hmm. Shall we practice hunting ?
“Do you want to play outside?
It seems that you will run out of exercise if you keep still in the room. We shall have to also practice of hunting? ”
Well, if he told me to watch over the room, I wouldn’t disagree. I am a good child and would obey properly. Certainly there isn’t anything I can do in the room, but I can live without hunting.
“You’ll have to be careful. Wild dogs are active around sunset, but I wouldn’t worry too much during the day. Even so guards are training outside near the gate so you can ask them for help should anything happen.”
“If Mill was a human, I would late you stay at home where it’s safe even if it was a little cramped, but you’re not. You’re still a small fox and you’re going to have to return to the wild eventually. It would be best if you knew what kind of dangers lurked outside.. So I guess I can’t let you stay quietly in the house.”
If I looked like a cat or dog, would you keep me safe in the house? Surely I’m a delicate fox.. I put my head back into his palm. Pat it more please. I know I need to keep my distance, but what he does is certainly appreciated by me. If I keep on this path , it seems I’ll stick to him all the time. The problem is if the sentiments change it would make parting with parting difficult.
Mother, I’m sorry but I can’t. I completely trust this one eyed knight. I love this place, more than the amount of snow that has fallen. By the way…
Next is jerky.
I wonder how long it will be until Mother comes back? I cannot speak their language. If I cannot speak, how will I say goodbye to the one-eyed knight? Surely he’ll be worried if I suddenly had disappeared. As this thoughts floated one after another in my head, I felt depressed.
How long will it last until my mother comes back?
I can not speak the language,
How can I say good-bye to the knights of the eyes?
I will be worried if I suddenly disappear … ….
I thought of a thing at that time and became slightly depressed .

Snow~! Snow was falling outside!
“I will be back to get you before sunset.”
The one-eyed knight said as he placed me down in the corner of the training grounds. Even tho he was leaving me to place by myself, he stilled nagged like a mother one such as ” Don’t leave the grounds” or ” Don’t go anywhere dangerous.” and ” Don’t fall in the pond”, but I was excited by the snow so most of it went in out one ear and out the other.
I ran around the empty training field, excited, I ran around the entire training grounds. It was as if the previous boredom was a lie. I thought of my soul as human, but I couldn’t admit to that now seeing myself squat in this much snow. It seems my heart is that of a young snow-loving spirit.
How wonder how well you could keep turning at this speed. Definitely if you mess up you’ll ram into the snow walls on the side, it’s fun if the snow is soft but it definitely hurts if you hit a frozen parts that are hard. Ironically, I found my self pulled from my thoughts when I couldn’t finish a curve and plowed into a snow pile. The human side emerges now.
Now I was covered in snow. I shook my body causing the most of the snow to fall off, however there are some clumps of snow stuck to my fluff beautiful fur all over which was unlikely I’d remove all of it from my body since I had so much fur. I tried walking again but the snow that clung to me became even heavier as new snow stuck to it, the clumps now turning into snowballs.
In frustration, I tried to take it off. I cant. I couldn’t do anything with these short limbs. Even my mouth couldn’t reach it. What the heck! This snow ball! I am a spirit of the snow, get off!!
While struggling alone in the snow, there was the sounds of crunching snow approaching me. Looking up quickly, two knights stopped a little ways from me. They watched me while laughing. Behind them was the front gate so they probably were the gate guards.
“You can’t get it off?
One of them called out and gestured for me to come to him. It was a stranger so it was quite intimidating, but I wanted these pesky snowballs off. If I kept playing, it’d probably grow and grow turning me into a snow-fox. The two knights waited patiently for me to come closer. They didn’t try and move to me probably thinking I would run if they did.
One of them crouched down while I approached nervously, I felt terrified. This was the first time that I approached someone other than the one-eyed knight in this place. I sniffed the knight, but I didn’t feel he meant me harm, No dangerous smell. He’s okay. I felt my heart pounding as I stopped in front of it, using my eyes pleading “please take it off”.
“Oh.. It really.. Came. Did you get used to people because of Deputy Manager?”
The knight was surprised that I approached him, but one by one he crushed the snow clumps that clung to my fur with his gloved hands.
“Ah.. How nostalgic.. I remember having to do so for a dog I had at home.”
As soon as the last snow clump was taken care of, I distanced my self from him. I was terrified, but I was thankful. Now my body felt lighter and my tail wagged happily.
”I’m here until dusk today, come and find me if there is something you need.”
The knight said while pointing to the gate behind him. With that both of the knights returned back to their posts
“Today I am there until dusky. Come and tell me if there is something.”
Ah, thank you older brother!
Eventually that day, I came to be indebted to older brother twice because..
Another snow ball was made immediately…
Note: I really liked this novel so I decided to pick it up. The chapters are rather long so I decided to try and do it up today on my and my mate’s day off.. Sadly the offspring had other plans…
