Chapter 101

Chapter 101: It’s of no use to me

A humanoid head and the body of a spider; It didn’t resemble any demon and bore even less of a resemblance to a human… Instead, its appearance was purely that of a monster.

‘What species is this?’

“Hsss…” With its feelers wiggling around, the creature seemed to be extremely upset about the attack it had received earlier.

Its dense cluster of small red eyes swiveled around. As they locked onto the two-handed sword that had previously smashed its head, the spider closed its pincer-like teeth downwards.

“Crack!” The two-handed sword was mercilessly split in two.

Although it was only a two-handed sword suffused with a smidgen of molybdenum, it was no problem for it to damage some low-level demon.

But surprisingly, it was broken so easily by the creatures’ pincers.

“My sword… this b*tch.” For a moment, the corners of Ji Bai’s mouth twitched.

Upon realizing this situation, Gordon immediately pulled back.

“Sorcerer, you’re the one who conjured up this big guy, am I right?”

“It has nothing to do with me. I’m also very curious to find out what species it belongs to.” Gordon expressed his innocence while casually shooting a glance at the horrifying monster.

“You weren’t the one who summoned it? In that case, who should I go to to get compensation for my sword? That’s all my assets right there.” Ji Bai’s tone was extremely unfriendly; In fact, it wasn’t too much of an exaggeration to say that his attitude was completely hostile.

“How would I know? Didn’t you see that this darned thing was clearly going for me?” Gordon frostily stared at the big, squirming spider and tightly clenched his sword.

‘A purgatory creature… The ancestral god cult is starting to become restless.’

It was rare for anyone to keep their composure after seeing a creature with such a unique appearance for the first time. Not to mention Ji Bai, even Lin had slightly knitted her eyebrows upon seeing it.

“Tsss…” The human corpse spider was seemingly unsatisfied after shattering the longsword with its pincers. Its small densely-packed eyes speedily locked onto a new target. Black saliva droplets fell downwards, causing clouds of white corrosive smoke to emerge where they hit the floor.

It was like a poisonous python flicking its tongue while gathering energy for the perfect time to strike.

“Hsss…!” With a bend of its eight joints, its seemingly heavy body launched in a lightning-quick attack.

Unarmed and defenseless, Ji Bai naturally didn’t have any intentions of fighting this enemy head-on. He hastily rolled back to avoid the attack.

Luckily, Ji Bai didn’t seem to be the creature’s target, thus it didn’t continue to relentlessly pursue and attack him.

Gordon leaned against a wall and slowly crept towards the creature’s back through the small gap between it and the wall. As he struck with his longsword, sparks flew from the creature’s limbs.

The sharp sword enchanted with fire scorched the outer shell of the monster, yet it didn’t stun it for too long.

“Hiss…” The head of the spider bobbled about as if unaffected by the attack. Sensing Gordon’s presence, the claw closest to him rose up high into the air.

The claw swung down like a sharp sword. Like a flash of lightning, like the short-lived sparks generated by a lighter, the attack was too dazzling for one to make it out clearly with their eyes.

“Swish!” A long scarlet whip struck. Like a razor-sharp sword, it severed the raised spider leg through its joint in one go.

The spider monster tilted its head as if it had yet to figure out what exactly had happened.

It seemed that the degree of consciousness this creature possessed was not very high.

With her blood whip in her hand and a grave expression on her face, Lin looked at the spider monster that had fallen into a daze. Gordon had also taken advantage of this opportunity to hurriedly draw his distance away from the monster. Fumbling in his pocket, he took out two fire lizard’s tongues and a sulfur stone.

An enemy loosening their guard was an opportunity that mustn’t be missed. With a flick of the finger that was manipulating the blood thread, the blood whip wrapped itself around one of the spider monster’s leg joints.

Lin extended her other hand to summon a similar blood whip which she then entangled around the right leg of the spider monster like it was a tied crab.

“Pualle tancto senguina Hetrierchea dadisse hesti ……”

Taking the ends of the two blood whips in one of her hands, her mouth silently muttered a strange and obscure incantation.

Her other hand was stretched out and incessantly making gestures in the air. A swaying red thread trailed behind her index and ring fingers. Like painting brushes dyed with paint, it looked as if they were drawing something in the air.

That language wasn’t something unknown to Ji Bai; The lingua franca of the demon race: Deepspeak. It was a necessary intermediary needed to complete a verbal spell.

There laid a dividing line between crushing class and destructive class skills.

If one wished to unleash 【Magic Skills】above crushing class, they needed to have ample【Magic】and a verbal spell that was constructed from Deepspeak. It was impossible to accomplish that if either one of those was missing.

This was what Ji Bai had learned. Under the spurring of a particular demon, he had acquired some essential Deepspeak. That said, he was completely clueless as to the concept behind it.

“Hssss…?” Realizing that its movement had been restricted, the spider monstrosity finally understood the predicament it was in. Its small clustered eyes swiveled up and down and zeroed in on Lin, who was silently muttering while looking down at something.

For a body seemingly forged out of iron, its strength was surprisingly strong. “Bloop, bloop…” Bubbles came out from the large mouth located on the abdomen of the humanoid corpse as its remaining 7 legs frantically struggled back and forth.

“Screech, screech…” A mournful wail emanated from Lin’s whip. In the end, it broke apart followed by a sound resembling a leather strap being torn.

“……tala nacam.”  Along with the end of the verbal spell, a few scarlet streaks of rose-shaped runes took shape.

【Destructive Class— Killing Formation: Death Spear Swarm】

Without any warning, thirteen scarlet-colored lances pierced through the ground and penetrated the monster from top to bottom — At least, that should have been the case. But since the spider monstrosity had struggled free of its restrictions in time, most of the lances had failed to hit it and only pierced through four of its legs.

The impervious spider monster was just like damp clay to the summoned blood lances.

It had lost its balance and support and fell to the ground, landing on its stomach. Its remaining three legs were meaninglessly swaying back and forth.

“Boom!” A large fireball rushed forth from behind it. In an one-hit-kill, it had swallowed the struggling monster in its entirety.

The raging flames exploded forth and thoroughly burnt the spider monster to a crisp. In an instant, there were only burning spider remains left that emitted crackling and rattling noises.

Gordon blew out the remaining flame on his finger and placed the sulfur stone and fire lizard’s tongues back into his pocket. He slowly placed the long sword back into its scabbard after shooting a deep glance at Lin for a moment. Heaving a sigh, he turned his body and left.

“Thanks for earlier… Don’t come here again.” Although one could hear the deep reluctance in his words,  he had still managed to say these words.

From the looks of it, it seemed that he no longer intended to pursue the issue with Lin. Rather, he seemed as if he had more pressing matters at hand.

“Parasite, can you cut this thing open?”

After looking at the silhouette moving into the distance, Lin moved her gaze aside.

Ji Bai crouched beside the spider remains that had yet to turn to ash with a solemn look in his eyes.

“What a miraculous fleshly body…Only its top half had been burnt up. The degree of damage on the spider carcass is practically negligible.” Muttered Ji Bai to himself for a while.

“Can you cut open this layer of skin?”

“What do you plan to do?”

“I’m thinking of maybe giving the meat a bite to see if it tastes like chicken.” Ji Bai tilted his head.

“Have you seen such a novel creature before?”

“This is not the first time I’ve seen these.”

“…” Ji Bai raised his head and quietly looked at Lin, waiting for her to finish.

“Recently, there has been a strange noise in the border town during midnight.”

“A strange noise…” Ji Bai tilted his head.

“It’s a sound that can’t be perceived by humans. Also, someone has reportedly witnessed a creature with a very small stature coming out from a manhole cover during midnight.”

“A gnome?”

“I’m unable to confirm it. The chivalric order is considering whether to send people down into the sewer for investigation.”

“When was that?” Ji Bai stood up.

“This morning.”

“…You can handle this thing here. I have some urgent matters I need to attend to.”

“Hold on.”

“What’s wrong? Is something the matter?” Ji Bai turned his head and shot a weird glance at Lin, who had called out to him.

“…” Silent, Lin took out a small, expensive-looking handbag that had a delicate pattern embroidered onto it.

From it, she took out a two-handed sword whose blade was in the shape of a black fang and bore a skeleton shaped guard.

Lin then threw it towards Ji Bai.

“?? Is this for me?” For a moment, Ji Bai suspected that the vampire before him had caught a fever.

“It’s of no use for me to have it, that’s all,” Said Lin indifferently. Whether it was by design or accident, she shot a glance at the two-handed molybdenum sword that had been split into two.
